Pretty Paper in the Office: Tape Dispensers

Tape: it’s something I always seem to need and never seem to have around.  Rolls of scotch and washi tape disappear in drawers, and I’m the silly girl who needs to cut tape with scissors.  I think it’s time to remedy this problem.  I’ve seen cute tape dispensers around the blog-block before, but none of them have really caught my eye.  I was finding that they can be a fairly stylized product.  So I went digging for simple dispensers that will fit into your work space no matter your style, with plenty of materials and colours to choose from!  – Julie

Ligature Wedding Invitation Collection by Paperfinger

You guys, today is such a happy day – I’m absolutely thrilled to help one of my very favorite calligraphers, Bryn from Paperfinger, launch her brand new wedding invitation collection!  Bryn is such a talented and kind lady; she created my beautiful logo that you all see at the top of the page and it’s always a treat to feature her beautiful calligraphy.  The new collection is called Ligature, and it’s absolutely gorgeous!

From Bryn: We created a collection so that we could create invitations for more clients, build on new designs and offer our clients quicker turnarounds without sacrificing the significance or quality of hand-drawn calligraphy.  The word “ligature” is a great metaphor for marriage.  In type design and lettering, a ligature is the unique letterform created by the combination of two alphabet characters that are connected by a linking stroke or flourish.  The ligature itself becomes a unique and distinct character of its own, made up of the two.

Within the collection, each invitation and individual piece is hand-lettered to order (no digital typefaces!), then expertly produced with letterpress printing or engraving.  The collection will also offer edge painting and original patterned backing featuring hand painted patterns created by Bryn.  For those of you who prefer a more custom approach, Bryn tells me that she plans to continue to offer bespoke design services in addition to the Ligature collection.

Letterpress Cards and Prints by Almanac Industries

A couple of weekends ago, my husband and I went up to our sister city of Baltimore for Pile of Craft – an annual craft fair.  In addition to seeing some of the latest from local favorites Bowerbox Press, Namoo, Fancy Seeing You Here, and Grey Moggie, I had the pleasure of meeting Whitney and Jacob, the super-cute husband and wife team behind Almanac Industries.  A Baltimore-based letterpress and bookbinding workshop, I loved their selection of letterpress prints and initial note cards (along with some really cute stitched goods that I’m hoping will make it into their shop soon!).

Summer Crawfish Boil Invitations

With the 4th of July coming up next week (!!), summer is definitely in full effect.  Lauren Chism Fine Papers created these festive invitations for an annual crawfish boil down in Dallas – the combination of modern typography and the red, white, and blue color palette seems perfect for any summer fête.  So fun!

From Lauren:  Bailey and her husband throw a crawfish boil each year and she came to me looking for a fun and festive invitation.  I incorporated custom crawfish illustrations into a modern typography layout to create a clean but playful look.  The invitations were flat printed on cotton card stock and paired with bright red envelopes.  I love how the color scheme reminds me of a backyard party – perfect for summer celebrations!

Nancy + Guy’s Modern Navy and White Wedding Invitations

It’s so fun to see designers expand their horizons with each new project.  Virginia and Mishayla of Plane Paper specialize in laser-cut greeting cards and stationery, but recently took on a custom wedding invitation design project.  They created a modern chevron-inspired design for both the invitation and laser-cut envelope, partnering with their studiomate Repeat Press to letterpress print the invitation suite.

From Virginia and Mishayla: Nancy and Guy wanted a wedding suite that would remain timeless, yet have a modern edge.  We combined a bold, graphic chevron pattern with a serif font and traditional wording – all in classic navy blue.

We designed a laser-cut envelope, our signature element, again incorporating the chevron pattern.  The envelope was tied with a letterpress tag with the reception location and wedding website.  Yellow baker’s twine added a pop of summer color and sense of playfulness to the suite.

We also designed ‘day-of’ elements, specifically flags wrapped around yellow and white paper straws.  Both the flag and tag used the ‘v’ of the chevron to allude to their respective, familiar silhouettes.

Thanks Virginia and Mishayla!
