Retro Coral and Olive Palm Springs Wedding Invitations

These retro coral and olive Palm Springs-inspired wedding invitations from Anticipate Invitations are so much fun! Gorgeous coral letterpress printing with palm tree motifs and retro typography selections are complemented by a mixed media (sandpaper!) element to mimic a desert landscape. The classic retro vibes from this suite set the stage wonderfully for the couple’s retro Palm Springs wedding bash!

From Michael: Every once in awhile a couple comes along that gives you complete creative license, and so it was for Lindsay and Timothy’s Palm Springs retro wedding bash. They wanted to have an element of fun mixed with the classic retro vibes of Palm Springs, so we threw out the idea of doing a desert landscape made of sandpaper and they were all in.

Retro Coral and Olive Palm Springs Wedding Invitations by Anticipate Invitations

The square invitation card was letterpress printed on ecru Lettra with coral pink ink. The layout was kept simple, with modern typography and a simple, throwback, script font for their names. Silhouettes of three palm trees were letterpress printed in the corner along with a ‘sunset’ of half tone dots, as a nod to the pop art movement of the 1960s.

Then we tore strips of sandpaper to complete the Palm Springs desert scene, adhered them to the invitation, and trimmed the edges flush with the card edges.

The remaining cards were printed digitally on ecru Lettra paper. The suite included a details card of wedding weekend events, framed with a diamond of halftone dots. Also included was a reply card in the form of a vintage postcard. We sourced the postcard from eBay, digitally resized it to fit a 4×6″ postcard, and removed some of the original text from the back to make room for the reply card wording. Using a postcard instead of envelope also helped bring costs down by removing the reply envelope and reducing postage.

The coral square invitation envelope was lined with olive green paper and perfectly complemented the foliage of the vintage postcard. Envelopes were digitally printed with guest addresses and the couple sourced their own vintage postage stamps to grace the front.

It is such a pleasure to work with couples who give just the right amount of direction. Adding a hand-applied element is always something we’re excited to take on as it truly makes the suite one-of-a-kind!

Thanks Michael!

Timeless Black and White Wedding Invitations

When it comes to timeless wedding invitations, it really doesn’t get any better than classic black and white with a dose of gorgeous calligraphy. These timeless black and white wedding invitations from Megan of Ruby the Fox feature black letterpress printed text, spot calligraphy from Angelique, Ink, blind impression palm trees and mountains inspired by the Ojai, California wedding location! Add in a couple of modern touches, including black edge painting and colorful botanical envelope liners, and you’ve got one seriously gorgeous invitation suite!

Timeless Black and White Wedding Invitations by Ruby the Fox

From Megan: This Ojai Valley Inn wedding for Mia and Douglas was an absolute DREAM to work on! I was contacted by Amber Weir Events to create this timeless suite for the most lovely bride. Her vision was super refined, yet organic, and I was honestly smitten with every element of her big day.

Timeless Black and White Wedding Invitations by Ruby the Fox

We started the design process with a pared down palette of black, white, and pops of red. After the bride had mentioned she wanted her out-of-town guests to really embrace and enjoy the beautiful venue, we decided to incorporate a blind (no ink) letterpress printed silhouette of the mountains and palm trees. This touch pulled in the gorgeous California scenery while still letting the design feel really fresh and clean. It was such a treat to work on a black and white design that was honestly a bit out of my design element (in the very best possible way!).

Timeless Black and White Wedding Invitations by Ruby the Fox

We utilized stunning modern calligraphy from Angi Phillips of Angelique, Ink for the names of the bride and groom, the addresses, and the venue titles. The rest of the invitation text was done in a classic serif font. Using spot calligraphy is one of my FAVORITE ways to really personalize a design. The cards were letterpress printed on white extra heavy cotton stock and were finished with a bold black edge painting. The letterpress printing was done in black ink and a blind (no ink) impression — really showcasing the impression and letting the process shine!

Timeless Black and White Wedding Invitations by Ruby the Fox

The crisp white envelopes were lined with a beautiful vintage botanical print, which gave the perfect pop of color and mimicked the flowers used at the ceremony and reception! The bride’s vision came together perfectly and I must say, this is one of my favorite wedding invitations to date.

Paper Party 2016: Hologram Foil Art Print and DIY Party Signs

Last week I shared the photos from Paper Party 2016, along with the party invitations, cocktail recipes, and tote bags, but I have a few final details from the party to share! For the past couple of years, we’ve created an exclusive keepsake art print just for the party inspired by the invitation design. This year’s keepsake art print features artwork from Ashley Buzzy Lettering & Press and was printed in hologram foil by Mama’s Sauce on lavender Colorplan from Legion Paper! And because the folks at Mama’s Sauce are just cool like that, they printed a bunch of extras for all of you! Keep reading below for instructions on how to receive one of these gorgeous prints – totally free!

Paper Party 2016 Art Print / Design by Ashley Buzzy Lettering & Press, Printed by Mama's Sauce on Lavender Color Plan paper from Legion Paper / Oh So Beautiful Paper

You may recognize the artwork by Ashley Buzzy from the party coasters, but the artwork was actually created exclusively for this print. I gave the words – “follow the call of the disco ball” – to Ashley and asked her to work her magic. After seeing a sample of Legion Paper’s Colorplan paper in this absolutely GORGEOUS shade of lavender, I knew it was the perfect fit for this 5×7 art print. The talented team at Mama’s Sauce printed the artwork in hologram foil, and voila!

So dreamy, right?? I just love the way the hologram foil changes color in the light. If you’d like to have one of these art prints, please just leave your mailing address here and we’ll pop one in the mail to you!

Paper Party 2016 DIY Acrylic and Vinyl Party Signs / Oh So Beautiful Paper

I loved Ashley’s artwork so much, I decided to turn it into a fun sign for the party! I also made a second sign using calligraphy by Mon Voir from last year’s Paper Party. Both signs were made with vinyl over an acrylic board spray painted on the back. The idea is basically the same as this DIY acrylic sign tutorial (one of my all time favorites on OSBP!), but with vinyl lettering cut out using my Silhouette CAMEO instead of written out with a paint marker. I spray painted each acrylic board with a couple layers of silver glitter spray paint, then added a layer of mint green to one sign and pastel lavender to the other sign, and finally added the vinyl lettering to the front of the acrylic board.

Paper Party 2016 Welcome Signs / Canvas by Mixbook with calligraphy by Meant to Be Calligraphy / Oh So Beautiful Paper

Finally, the party welcome signs! Mixbook (one of our party sponsors) offers canvas prints in a range of sizes, and the 16×20″ size just happens to be perfect as a welcome sign for a cocktail party! We made a total of three canvas prints: one to display in the lower lobby, one to display at the party entrance on our floor, and another directing guests to the photobooth. Each print used the watercolor background from the Paper Party invitations and the party logo created by Ashley Buzzy. Michele from Meant to Be Calligraphy then wrote a unique message on each print using a black paint pen. I love how these prints turned out!

So many fun details from Paper Party 2016! Which is your favorite??

Shimmery Metallic Moon and Stars Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! We have two absolutely GORGEOUS wedding invitation suites to share with you today! We’re kicking things off with these shimmery metallic moon and stars wedding invitations from Caroline of Lovely Paper Things. I absolutely love all the constellation details that Caroline incorporated throughout the suite, and how gorgeous is the screen printed gold ink over shimmery silver paper? So much sparkle!

Moon and Stars Wedding Invitations by Lovely Paper Things / Oh So Beautiful Paper

From Caroline: When Amber was a little girl, her mom would tell her stories about the moon, and as she grew up she cherished those special tales. Fast forward a few years, to when Heather of Amorology and I were brainstorming for Amber and Jason’s wedding invitation suite. I was immediately inspired to integrate the moon into their wedding invitation design!

Moon and Stars Wedding Invitations by Lovely Paper Things / Oh So Beautiful Paper

The couple knew they wanted their special day to be a black tie, garden affair with very special and personal touches. So I decided to use a combination of painted moon and silhouetted floral illustrations – as though the moon was creating gorgeous floral shadows in a night garden!

Moon and Stars Wedding Invitations by Lovely Paper Things / Oh So Beautiful Paper

Delighting and surprising a couple (and their guests) is one of my favorite things to do, so I had a special die made so that when the invitations arrived, tucked inside their screen printed pouches, they would show a quarter moon. And as the guests opened them up a full moon would be revealed! Hooray!

Moon and Stars Wedding Invitations by Lovely Paper Things / Oh So Beautiful Paper

We used shimmer tone silver paper and custom amber-gold screen printed ink to achieve a romantic, warm look on the invitations, details card, website card, and moon phase cards. The silver paper and gold ink twinkled like star dust! And if that wasn’t enough, the constellations on the response card envelopes were letterpress printed and paired with envelopes with digitally printed liners in a beautiful lunar grey. And as it turns out, the couple was married on a new moon, which was the perfect way to start their happily ever after! Cheers to the sweetest couple and their marvelous moon dance!
