Inspired By: Classic Black + White

I love all things metallic and sparkly during the holidays (and pretty much the rest of the year), but there’s something about winter that draws me to the crisp combination of black and white. It’s hard to go wrong with black and white, whether your style is classic or modern, sophisticated or whimsical. And there’s something romantic in the combination when sweet motifs like ribbons and hearts or a pretty script font are added to the mix.

Seema + Joseph’s Whimsical Illustrated Wedding Invitations

As you saw earlier, these invitations from Mr. Boddington’s Studio won the Louie Award for best invitation suite – and I couldn’t resist sharing the rest of the photos! Created for a modern Indian wedding at Chicago’s Art Center, the invitations incorporate whimsical illustrations inspired by Indian folklore – all letterpress printed on thick cotton paper. Gorgeous!

Erika + Andrew’s Modern Nautical Wedding Invitations

Becca from Suite Paperie sent over these fun custom invitations for a wedding in Massachusetts, and I’m loving the festive and modern nautical vibe! Using a classic red, white, and blue color palette, Becca incorporated nautical details like stripes and lobsters with whimsical dots. Too cute!

From Becca: This wedding invitation suite was by far one of the most fun projects I’ve worked on in a long time! I actually met Erika via a mutual friend on Twitter, when she was searching for stationers for her wedding. We instantly clicked, and got to working on her “Kate Spade meets Surfer” inspired invitations. Erika, the creative brains behind the blog Radiant Republic, had a vision and we ran with it to come up with the suite below.

We used dots, lobsters, and nautical stripes to keep the design whimsical, while the mix of script and block print typefaces added a touch of sophistication. The invitations were letterpress printed on luxurious 220# cotton Lettra and the rest of the suite was offset printed in navy and coral to match. The set was assembled with cotton twine and finished with a sweet square tag.

{happy weekend!}

I haven’t shared any photos of Sophie recently, so I thought I’d end the week with a little update on my sweet little girl. She’s 2.5 months now (11 weeks to be exact), smiling up a storm, and interested in everything and everyone. She had a blast meeting new friends and family members over Thanksgiving weekend! I also hinted on twitter earlier this week that we’ve encountered some sleeping issues, so I’m one tired mama these days! Sophie is at the stage where she really wants to be awake for longer stretches but just can’t quite handle it, so we’re trying to find the right balance between awake time and nap time during the day so that we both minimize her meltdowns and can hopefully get her to sleep for longer stretches at night. I think I might do cartwheels the first night we get 6 or more hours out of her! Seriously. Anyway, this weekend we’re hoping to check out Holiday Heap in Baltimore and maybe even visit the National Aquarium (I’ve never been!). But in the meantime…

That’s it for me this week! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday! xoxo

Calligraphy Inspiration: Linea Carta

I’ve always admired the work of Linea Carta‘s Diva Pyari. I’m sure you’ve seen her work around the OSBP block before. She has a style all her own and it’s certainly hard to forget! You may have also seen Diva’s writing on the big screen, or in Martha Stewart Weddings. I’m sure you can see why; elegant, dynamic, endlessly romantic, with beautiful illustrations to boot! Not that she needs it. Diva’s writing in itself is a work of art. – Julie

Diva’s calligraphy oozes character. Not so perfect that you can’t tell it’s hand written, her work gives an air of old love letters from days past.
