Happy Weekend!

Well, hello August! My dad is coming down this weekend to help with some pre-baby house projects – and he’s staying all week, such a treat! I’m excited for Sophie to get some Grandpa time, which sadly doesn’t happen nearly often enough. I’m heading out to prepare for a few projects and (ahem) tidy up the house a bit, but in the meantime…

Cooper’s Whimsical + Modern Birth Announcements

Every birth announcement tells a story, but some stories are more complex than others – even happy stories. Today I’m honored to share the whimsical announcements that Brooke from Paper & Parcel created for her beautiful baby boy, Cooper, and to give Brooke a chance to tell her story in her own words.

From Brooke: The first time I looked into my son’s eyes, I knew he had Down syndrome. We didn’t know prior to Cooper’s birth so the diagnosis took us by surprise. The weeks following his birth were a blur of doctor’s visits, sleepless nights, and falling head-over-heels in love with our beautiful baby boy. While most of our friends and family knew of his arrival and condition, as a stationer, I knew I had to send out birth announcements.

I wanted to design of the announcement to be as unique and special as my darling boy. Right away I knew that I wanted the design to be an envelope within an envelope. Recipients peel off the polka dotted washi tape to discover Cooper’s photo peeking out of the envelope. The back of the photo includes all his birthday stats. The photo/birthday stats and note are flat printed on 120# paper. I also wanted to incorporate fun, whimsical patterns. Both envelopes are lined with a flat printed triangle pattern and the cross-hatch pattern is letterpress printed on 220# Crane Lettra.

My husband and I felt it necessary to include a note about our little man. Learning that our son had Down syndrome was a mix of emotions – grief yet joy, sorrow yet happiness. It took a while to write the note.

My husband and I went through at least a dozen iterations before finally landing on: “Cooper came into the world a month early. As our midwife put it, “He has things to do. People and places to see.” Shortly after he was born, Cooper let us in on his little secret: he has a genetic condition called Trisomy 21, otherwise known as Down syndrome. We were shocked and confused at first. But in our son’s emerging personality, we see a young man infinitely curious about the world. His blue eyes catch on shapes and patterns that make him giggle with delight. He is tenacious and precocious and will be crawling and walking before we know it. Cooper may have Down syndrome, but it’s clear there is much more to our little man than an extra chromosome. We are delighted that he has chosen us to be his parents. Please join us in welcoming Cooper to our family.”

Such a beautiful announcement – thank you Brooke!

OSBP at Home: Living Room Reading Nook

I mentioned last week that we’ve been doing a lot around the house in preparation for Baby No. 2. And while I’m still dreaming about some of our bigger projects, most of the current tasks aren’t all that much fun or pretty – there’s lots of shelf hanging, hole patching, and other little odds and ends going on. It’s all absolutely necessary, but sometimes I just want to bring something pretty into the mix! Back in February we had custom built-ins installed in our living room (which I need to photograph and share with you!), which left a corner of our living room begging for a nice little reading nook. I inherited a couple of antique chairs from my grandmother before she passed a few years ago, so I’m just on the hunt for the perfect floor lamp to complete this little corner!

Right now I’m leaning towards either a tripod floor lamp or task floor lamp. A tripod lamp would provide a bit more ambient lighting, which we need in that corner, but I do like the coziness of a task lamp. Either way, I want something with a fairly small footprint (a big arc light won’t work in our space) and a style that isn’t too traditional or fussy. Here’s what I’ve found so far:

12 Awesome Floor Lamps Round Up / Oh So Beautiful Paper

1. Land of Nod Cinema Tripod Floor Lamp; 2. Urban Outfitters Stella Floor Lamp; 3. Crate & Barrel Astor Floor Lamp; 4. Ikea Hektar Floor Lamp; 5. Shades of Light Rustic Wood Arc Lamp; 6. West Elm Telescoping Floor Lamp; 7. Schoolhouse Electric Miles Floor Lamp; 8. Blu Dot Perimeter Floor Lamp (probably too modern for us, but I love the pop of color!); 9. Beaded Ball Floor Lamp via Chairish; 10. Robert Abbey Brass Pharmacy Lamp via Lamps Plus; 11. Pottery Barn Mercury Glass Task Floor Lamp; 12. Schoolhouse Electric Mulberry Tripod Lamp

Have any of you found any really great floor lamps lately that you’d like to share? I’m still on the hunt!

Katrina’s Little Prince Baby Shower Invitations and Ideas

Happy Monday everyone! Melissa from Atheneum Creative designs the cutest baby shower invitations – remember these adorable bow tie baby shower invitations from a couple years ago?? – and these little prince invitations are no exception! Melissa also created some fantastic party details that I couldn’t resist including. Too cute!

From Melissa: A baby shower for a wedding planner can only mean one thing… everything has to be top notch! Katrina from Come + Together Events is expecting her first son and of course she wanted to set the right tone for this little prince. We introduced the prince theme on the invitation, which included a felt crown tucked into a letterpress printed card.

We also worked on some really fun day of materials including a series of napkins, tags for the straws, and an advice board for the mom to be. And how could we not include a few custom onesies playing to Katrina’s business?

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! This summer is flying by crazy fast – this week in particular felt like it went by in two seconds. I’m hoping time will slow down just a teensy wee bit in August? I need a bit more time before September (and baby #2) roll around – aaah! But in the meantime
