Ben + Maureen’s Floral Illustrated Wedding Invitations

I’m a longtime fan of illustratorÂ Caitlin KeeganÂ â€“ she was the first illustrator that we collaborated with to create recipe cards for our Friday Happy Hour cocktail series! Today Caitlin is back on OSBP to share a wedding invitation that she recently designed featuring dahlia illustrations, Caitlin’s signature hand lettering, and a cheerful yellow and blue color palette. So pretty!

From Caitlin: I designed this wedding invitation for my good friends who were married in September at an inn in Woodstock, CT that had a dahlia farm. The couple asked that this be incorporated into the design along with their wedding colors. I started with some loose drawings of dahlias in my sketchbook and actually ended up using them for the final design, along with some hand lettering which was also carried over onto their favors and program.

The invitations, RSVP cards, and envelopes were silkscreened by Out of Line Press in Brooklyn and the envelope liners were printed digitally. The bride also used some of the leftover patterned paper to make small notecards for each of the guests, which were distributed with the wedding favors.Â For the envelope liner, I created a custom dahlia pattern that includes the couple’s initials.

Sarah + Michael’s Hip Hop Hollywood Regency Wedding Invitations

I love wedding invitations that a) are absolutely gorgeous and b) don’t take themselves too seriously. These stunners from Nichole at Coral PheasÂantÂ combine Hollywood Regency-inspired details and gold foil with hip-hop inspired lyrics. What more could you possibly ask for?

From Nichole:Â Sarah and Michael and their invitation suite are my favorite client/paper combo to date. They have the best style and an affinity for Hova and Bey. Seriously, what’s not to love? We brought both to their paper story combing the feel of Old Hollywood with hip-hop inspired lyrics.

It all started with their foil stamped save the date. At first glance, you see a super-glamorous card â€“ but wait â€“ the words “wining and grinding” appear in a beautiful foil stamped script. It’s this combination of luxe with lingo that really gets me fired up â€“ in a good way!

The design of their save the date carried over to the invitation suite which was letterpress printed and gold foil stamped on 110# Crane’s Lettra. The main invitation was kept formal with elegant details and traditional wording. It’s on the enclosure cards where we let loose with fun language.

Guests were asked to “Pop champagne and make it rain” and were invited “After the party (to) the hotel lobby” for a recovery brunch. Of course this rap-inspired suite wouldn’t be complete without a mix tape. This cheeky card guided guests to their wedding website for all the celebration details.

DIY Tutorial: Wire Leaf Fall Table Decor

Last November was my very first project here on OSBP â€“Â a set of mini pinecone wreath place cards for your Thanksgiving table. I’ve created a lot of tutorials over the last few years, but those little wreaths are still one of my favorite projects. I used them so many times last fall, and they made me realize how much I love a little decorative item delicately placed upon a plate and how something very simple can elevate a place settingÂ without much effort. It is for this reason that I so love today’s project â€“Â delicate wire fall leavesÂ that look so adorable when greeting a dinner guest. Let them shine on their own, or pair them with a placecard. Materials
Brass jewelry wire – 20 gauge
Green floral wire – 20 gauge
Scissors
Wire pliers
Fall leaf template

Step One: Cut a piece of wire approximately 18″ long.

Step Two: Bend the wire into the shape of a maple leaf using the template as a guide. For curves, hold the wire down onto the template with one handÂ while bending the wire with yourÂ other hand.

Step Three: To get sharp corners and tips, use your fingernail to make a small divot where you want a bend, and then use the pliers to grasp the wire at that point and bend at a right angle.

Step Four: To get a defined point, squeeze theÂ two sides of aÂ bend together between the pliers.

Step Five: Finish each leaf off by twisting the wire around itself, and snipping off the end. Once finished, you canÂ reshape the wire as needed.

Step Six: Use different colors of wire to create different leaves. Here, I’ve made an oak leaf with brass wire to contrast with my green maple leaves. (Ed Note: These would look SO amazing in copper wire! â€“ Nole)

Seven Amazing Ceramic Artists

Over the past few weeks I’ve developed a major thing for ceramics. I’ve always had a soft spot for pretty plates and mugs, but as I’ve discovered more independent artists making hand crafted ceramic goods that soft spot has grown into a full on obsession. Their Instagram accounts also tend to be some of my favorites, fueling the OMG I have to have that right now please feelings even further. Today I thought I’d highlight a few favorites!
