Modern Intergalactic Space Theme Birth Announcements for Baby Oliver

As promised, we’re back with the baby announcements that Greg from Work to Date designed for his newborn son, Oliver!  Greg went with a modern take on an intergalactic space theme for the announcement design, letterpress printed by Gilah Press in a complementary color palette of red, orange, and charcoal gray.  So fun!

From Greg: This birth announcement takes family and friends on an intergalactic space journey while introducing little Oliver to the world.  Playful illustrations, vibrant typography and carefully selected accents play nice with each other and were letterpress printed to complete a one-of-a-kind birth announcement experience.

The announcements were letterpress printed, three color on Crane Lettra 220 lb 100% cotton paper by Gilah Press.  The French Pop-Tone Orange Fizz envelopes were letterpress printed, one color on the face and flap.  The finished size of the announcement is 8.75 x 5.75 inches and the envelopes were 9 x 6 inches.

Thanks Greg!

Red + Aqua Baby Shower Invitations for Baby Bennett

Today is going to be all about baby stationery, with a couple of fun baby stationery suites from Greg Bennett of Work to Date.  Greg and his wife welcomed a baby boy last fall, and Greg worked with the talented team at Gilah Press to letterpress print baby shower invitations and announcements.  First up, Greg is sharing the red and aqua invitations that he designed for his wife’s baby shower over the summer!

I love the unexpected combination of a sweet whale illustration with a greek key border – not to mention the beautiful knockout text for the invitation details!

Thanks Greg!  Check back a bit later for baby Bennett’s birth announcements!

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone!  This week started off with our first real snowfall here in DC!  Sadly, the snow didn’t stick around and we’re back to rain (boo!).  At least the rain has given me an excuse to spend more time indoors, particularly with our rescue foster cat, Major Tom.  After spending weeks living under the bed, he now finally comes to hang out with us and our other cats in the living room.  Progress!  Next week I’m heading to Salt Lake City for Alt Summit – I’m looking forward to seeing old blog friends and meeting new ones!  But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

As usual, we have a fun cocktail coming up for you this afternoon, so check back a bit later for the recipe!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday! xoxo

Fabric Pocket Birth Announcements for Baby Elizabeth

It’s a baby-filled day on OSBP today!  But this time, it’s fun and modern birth announcements from designer Kate Holgate for her niece Elizabeth.  Kate was inspired by vintage type and story books – and I love that Kate chose a deep red as an alternative to traditional pink for a baby girl.  She even sewed fabric pockets to hold the announcement and a photo!  Just beautiful.

From Kate: I created baby announcements for my niece, who was born at the end of August in Geneva, Switzerland.  I asked my sister if I could design Elizabeth’s birth announcements as a gift to mark this joyous occasion.  The baby’s room is decorated using a Peter Rabbit theme, so I designed an announcement inspired by old story book motifs and vintage type.  I chose a deep coral color as an alternative to the traditional “pink” signifying a girl.

The design is letterpress printed on Crane Lettra 300 gsm (soft white) by Ladybug Press in Boise, Idaho.  I stitched fabric pockets to contain the announcements and Elizabeth’s photo.  I can only hope that my niece will someday feel the warmth and love expressed through these announcements.  I couldn’t be happier to welcome Elizabeth to our family!

Thanks Kate!

Sweet Silhouette Birth Announcements for Baby Riley

Jackie from 42 Pressed welcomed a little bundle of joy – a daughter named Riley Magnolia – back in June, and she created these completely adorable letterpress announcements to share Riley’s arrival with friends and family.  Jackie mixed Riley’s tiny baby silhouette with playful type to create the perfect balance of whimsy and beauty in these announcements.

From Jackie: I wanted Riley’s announcement to be playful and fun, but still be really beautiful.  I have been obsessed with silhouettes lately.  I have thought that Riley has the sweetest silhouette since the moment I laid eyes on her, so I knew I wanted to do a silhouette birth announcement.  I am not a huge fan of photographs in birth announcements, so I thought I would photograph her profile and then go into illustrator and outline her silhouette in lieu of an actual photograph.

I played around with type to convey the sense of playfulness and fun that I wanted in the design.  The typeface used for Riley’s first name is playful, but I offset it with a more dignified and timeless script typeface for her middle name.  I always love to pair opposites with opposites, it’s always been a big part of my design style.

Thanks Jackie – and congratulations!
