{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone! And surprise – I’m on vacation! We took our first cross country flight with Sophie yesterday for some much needed rest in Big Bear with my side of the family. We’re hanging out here for a few days, then spending a couple more days in LA before heading back to DC. Next week I have a couple of fantastic guest bloggers holding down the fort – and I’m so excited about what they have planned for you! You won’t want to miss it! But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend – don’t forget to check back for this week’s cocktail recipe and then again next week for some amazing guest posts! I’ll see you back here in a couple of weeks! xoxo

Jess + Charlie’s Retro Neon Wedding Invitations

The ladies of Gus & Ruby Letterpress always send me most awesome wedding invitations, but these invitations are seriously cool! Created for a creative California couple, the entire suite has a fun retro vibe combined with modern pops of neon color. The save the dates feature neon borders in three different colors against blind impression text, while the invitation suite and outer envelopes include pops of bright neon pink. Love!

From Samantha and Whitney: This custom suite was designed for a hip, fun-loving couple getting married at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum in Santa Barbara, CA. The couple wanted their stationery to reflect the laid-back California vibe of their wedding while still being fun and hip and inviting for their guests who were traveling from all over the country.

Jess and Charlie’s modern, interactive save the date featured a blind-printed message with a pop of neon and set the stage for a fun party ahead. The subtle, cheeky blind printed message ended with a URL in a pop of neon that invited guests to view a video online detailing their engagement and upcoming nuptials.

The invitations and reply cards featured a mix of bold sans serif and serif fonts as well as a retro-inspired script. The pairing of fonts provided a good mix of contemporary and vintage typestyles while the use of white space and small pop of neon helped round out a clean, fresh look.

Each invitation was printed on double-thick 220# cotton and then edge painted in neon pink for extra punch of color. All the pieces were lovingly letterpress printed by hand on our antique press (c. 1913) on beautiful, textural, super thick 100% cotton paper.

A fun custom envelope liner featuring a monogram jazzed up the envelope for each invitation. Our dear friend, Jenna, of Love, Jenna Calligraphy add some extra neon pop with her incredible hand-calligraphy on the envelopes.

Allie + Ryan’s Baby Gender Reveal DVD Covers

Allie of Allie Ruth Design and her husband Ryan are expecting their first baby later this year (congrats you two!), and they wanted a fun way of sharing the baby’s gender with their family scattered around the country. They put together a sweet little video, burned some DVDs, and Allie printed these DVD covers using a rubber stamp with one of her illustrations. Too cute!

From Allie: For the announcement itself, we made a quirky video, but we needed a cute way to get the news to my family in Florida, and Ryan’s family here in the midwest (without giving it away to any of our friends first). So I burned the video onto some DVDs and created this block-printed sleeve in which to send them.

For the block, I had a custom rubber stamp made of one of my calligraphed illustrations. Our last name is Peach, so I was sure to incorporate a cute little peach at the bottom. I printed the image onto blank kraft DVD sleeves. For the envelope, we went with a gender neutral mint, so as to not give away the secret before our families saw the video.

I used my vintage typewriter to print each set of grandparents’ names onto little handmade, vintage-inspired tags and tied them on with black and white baker’s twine.

Thanks Allie – and congratulations again!

Brynne + Guy’s Natural Vineyard Save the Dates

I always like to end the week on a happy note, and what could be happier than these beautiful save the dates for a vineyard wedding? Created by Brynne from Harken Press for her own upcoming wedding, the save the dates feature a map of the wedding location and a custom gold wax seal. So pretty!

From Brynne: It can be daunting to be a stationery designer working on your own wedding stationery, but it can be even more of a challenge when both the bride and groom are designers. Guy and I wanted our save the dates to be unique and textural for our nature-inspired vineyard wedding. We also wanted to add fun accents, like our custom wax seal, photo magnet, photo corners and vintage map envelope liners to highlight the location.

The venue in southern California was the main inspiration. The vineyard is in Temecula Valley wine country which is a rural paradise with beautiful rolling hills and acres of lush vines. Hot air ballooning is a popular attraction in the area, so we used the symbol discreetly under the photo magnet. I can’t wait to take a romantic hot air balloon ride before the wedding!

OSBP at Home: In the Garden

It’s been a few weeks since we moved to our new house, and although we’re still not completely unpacked I have lots of house-related things on the brain as I dream about all the updates and improvements I’d love to make to our home. I hope you won’t mind if I share some of my thoughts with you from time to time? And since spring has firmly arrived here in DC, I thought I’d start with my plans for our outdoor spaces!

1. Patio; 2. Rain Spout Trellis; 3. Foundation Garden; 4. Foundation Garden; 5. Camellias; 6. Herb Garden

Outdoor space wasn’t a high priority when we first started looking for houses, but somehow ended up with a house with a bit of green space in both the front and back! Our back yard is more of a patio with a large area of paver stones and a smaller space for planting, but it should be more than enough for my limited gardening skills. We’re planning to fill our space with some of our favorite flowers and shrubs, including lilacs, English garden roses, peonies, and hellebores. I’m also hoping to train a few vines (I’m thinking jasmine and clematis) around the yard and perhaps even create some narrow raised beds for herbs and select veggies along the fence. My goal is to create a colorful and fragrant little oasis for eating and grilling outdoors during warm weather months.

Oh So Beautiful Paper at Home: Garden Inspiration (2)

TOP ROW: Roses, Peonies, Lilacs

BOTTOM ROW: Phlox, Jasmine, Hellebores

In our front yard, the previous owners left us a mystery rosebush (I can’t wait to see what color blooms emerge soon!) against the foundation and some wonderfully fragrant lavender closer to the sidewalk, but there are some bare patches to fill. The front yard receives lots of direct sunlight in the morning, so I’m thinking of doing pretty spring-blooming phlox next to the lavender and a colorful foundation garden under the mystery roses. The yard in front of our old apartment was completely shaded by a giant old maple tree, so I’m excited to have a full sun area to dig into!

Are any of you planning new garden projects for spring?
