Modern + Minimalist Wedding Invitations

I was just thinking the other day about how beautiful calligraphy can look, especially when letterpressed, just on its own in a wedding invitation design.  Then I saw these letterpress invitations from Bespoke Press, which just prove that calligraphy isn't the only kind of lettering that can stand on its own – this serif typeface achieves the same result, but with a slightly more clean and modern look:

So beautiful and simple at the same time – and the pink ink color is such a nice additional touch.  I love it!  You can read more about the inspiration behind this design on the Bespoke Press blog right here.

Lovely + Modern Calligraphy from Primele

I love calligraphy, and for me there's really nothing better to start off a Friday morning than truly beautiful, modern calligraphy.  I was so happy to receive an e-mail from Primele, a calligraphy studio from sisters Patricia, Kim and Rachel, introducing me to their beautiful work:

I love that the Primele calligraphy styles are inspired by primitive americana, influence by the retro palettes of the 1930s and '40s, natural elements, and contemporary design — all of which definitely comes cross in their work.  I particularly love all the little illustrated details and vintage stamps!  If you like what you see above, you can check out more from Primele at their etsy shop and blog.

Rae + Noah’s Classic Wedding Invitations with Modern Calligraphy

Before we start off with the first of the week’s giveaways, I just had to share these unbelievably gorgeous invitations from Parrott Design Studio featuring the gorgeous calligraphy of Betsy Dunlap:

Calligraphy-Jewish-Formal-Wedding-Invitation

Sarah from Parrott Design Studio sent over photos and some background on the design process.  The bride, Rae, is an art historian and sent Sarah a huge folder of images she found inspiring, including floral arrangements by Saipua, work by some of her favorite artists, and images of Betsy’s calligraphy.  Sarah recommended that Rae ask Betsy to do the hand lettering for the invitations, and then found ways of incorporating Rae’s other inspiration sources throughout the invitation suite:

Rae and Sarah worked with Betsy on all of the lettering for the main elements of the invitation suite — including the bride and groom’s names for the invitation, and the words “RSVP” and “Directions” for the invitation enclosures, the return address for the RSVP post card — as well as the calligraphy for the invitation envelopes:

The overall design of the invitation was kept elegant and simple — just Betsy’s calligraphy and type letterpress printed in a single color on super-thick cotton paper.  Before printing, Sarah hand-lined each invitation with a gorgeous floral pattern paper that Rae found to add a bit of color to the invitation:

Only the main invitation was letterpress printed, while the RSVP postcard and directions card were screen printed, also in a single color, to keep the overall cost of the invitation suite down:

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Check out Sarah’s blog for more on this gorgeous invitation suite and additional tips on ways to save on letterpress invitations.  Thanks so much for sharing these Sarah!

Oh, and stay tuned for our first giveaway of the week, coming up in just a little bit!

Hello, Lovely

Um, these business cards for Goodnickels Photography by Sesame Letterpress might be some of the most beautiful I've ever seen - from the calligraphy to the layout and gorgeous letterpress, I'm completely in love:

Truly gorgeous work. Printed by Sesame Letterpress – but I'm not sure who did the beautiful calligraphy.  If anyone knows the name of the calligrapher, please let me know so I can give proper credit!

UPDATE: Mystery solved!  The logo design is by Ben Hansen and the calligraphy is by Jen Cota, who as it turns out is a photographer with some pretty rad calligraphy skills. Thanks Melanie!
