Colbi + Dan’s Rustic Idaho Mountain Wedding Invitations

I’ve had the pleasure of featuring some beautiful invitations and baby announcements from designer Kate Holgate over the past couple of years – and these rustic yet modern wedding invitations are no exception! Kate designed these invitations for a friend’s mountain wedding in Idaho, with some fun ski lift details inspired by the wedding venue – even though the wedding takes place during the summer! The entire suite was digitally printed on kraft paper with turquoise and tangerine accents. So fun!

From Kate: I recently designed an invitation suite for a good friend who is getting married this August. The ceremony is to take place at the top of Brundage Mountain, a ski resort in McCall, Idaho. Colbi and Dan were so easy to work with; they are such a fun, down-to-earth couple. They wanted an invitation design that was natural yet modern.

The entire suite was digitally printed on kraft paper, wrapped with stamped belly bands and contained in a bright tangerine envelope. The wedding guests will be riding a chairlift to the ceremony site so we thought that it would be fun to incorporate an old-school life ticket for the RSVP. Colbi and Dan deserve the most beautiful day ever and I was honored to be a part of it.

Archer’s Mint + Silver Letterpress Birth Announcements

How sweet are these darling letterpress birth announcements? Johanna from Arbor Corner Studio created these announcements for her own baby boy – born on 12.12.12! – with hand lettering and sweet details that complement little Archer’s unique name. Johanna chose a mint and silver color palette and a chevron envelope liner to complete the design.

From Johanna: I designed and printed this custom letterpress birth announcement for our own little bundle. I wanted the design to give a slight nod to his name – Archer – without being too “theme-driven” with archery elements. With a name like Archer, he will probably be sick of bows and arrows in no time!

The design was printed with two colors: mint green and silver. A chevron envelope liner was used in the outer mint envelope which paired nicely with an inner envelope containing his newborn picture.

I hand lettered his first and middle name, and then used an arched banner to divide the two. His birth stats are revealed in the banner.

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone! And surprise – I’m on vacation! We took our first cross country flight with Sophie yesterday for some much needed rest in Big Bear with my side of the family. We’re hanging out here for a few days, then spending a couple more days in LA before heading back to DC. Next week I have a couple of fantastic guest bloggers holding down the fort – and I’m so excited about what they have planned for you! You won’t want to miss it! But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

Spence’s Modern Blue + Kraft Paper Birth Announcement

These modern baby boy birth announcements from Brianna at Collected show that clean and simple can still be incredibly sweet and beautiful. The double-sided layout features all the essential details on one side and a photo on the other. I love the way the navy and kraft paper color palette highlights Spence’s gorgeous baby blue eyes!

From Brianna: I was so happy when Brooke contacted me about these birth announcements. She  didn’t want anything babyish and wanted to keep them modern and simple, which of course is music to my designer ears. While we kept the design of the announcement relatively simple, I think the kraft petal envelopes add an element of sweetness and fun.

{happy weekend}

Hello friends. It was a sad week here in my Capitol Hill neighborhood of DC: Frager’s, our beloved hardware store (and 93-year old community institution), was destroyed in a huge fire on Wednesday night. Thankfully everyone made it out of the store okay and the brick facade of the building survived the fire. The owners plan to rebuild and neighborhood businesses have offered temporary work for displaced employees, but I’m still reeling from the destruction. My husband and I moved to Capitol Hill in 2009, and Frager’s quickly became one of my favorite places on the Hill. That probably seems weird, but it’s so much more than a hardware store: my husband and I bought our first Christmas tree together from Frager’s. I’ve purchased enough paint that the guys behind the counter know Sophie by name. Frager’s supports local sports teams, employs neighborhood teens during the summer, and even hosts an egg hunt for little kids during Easter. I look forward to a future teenage Sophie getting her first part-time job there. I just can’t imagine Capitol Hill without Frager’s. Thankfully our neighborhood has a history of rallying together to help local families and businesses in need, and I’m looking forward to helping in any way that I can.
