Ben + Mandy’s Modern Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone!  We’re starting the week off with some modern wine-inspired wedding invitations from designer Cristina Pandol.  Cristina created these invitations for the wedding of a friend and colleague, drawing inspiration from wine labels to complement the vineyard wedding venue.  So cute!

From Cristina: Ben is a colleague of mine, so this project was very personal for me.  Ben and Mandy are a young couple who are fun, energetic, creative, very hands on, and most importantly crazy in love.  They asked me to design something that represented them as a couple and was young and different, without being too unconventional.  The only design inspiration I was given was to “think wine” to fit with the vineyard wedding venue.

After spending a lot of time in the wine aisle, I knew that I wanted to do an invitation for a #10 vertical envelope.  The vertical layout made it a little younger and the long and skinny dimension would give the feeling of a wine label.  This also made it possible to fit all of the information on one piece, which brought down the overall production cost.

Since a wedding is all about two people coming together I wanted to mix two typefaces in an interesting way, but keep it looking clean by stacking it.  I chose Soundtrack as the focus typeface because it’s clean, but looks handwritten and fits with their DIY style.

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone!  It’s been a little over a week with our newest foster kitten and thankfully she’s already feeling much better.  She’s so ridiculously cute and playful, but like most cats spends most of her day sleeping on the couch.  Oh, to be a house cat…  She’ll be available for adoption soon, so if anyone in the DC/VA/MD area is interested in adopting an incredibly sweet 6-month old kitten, please get in touch!  But in the meantime…

Victoria’s Housewarming Party Invitations

As a longtime renter, I’m definitely looking forward to the day that my husband and I own a home and can invite our family and friends over for a housewarming party.  Victoria from Victory Paper Designs recently purchased a home with her fiancé, and she sent over the invitations that she designed for their housewarming party.  Victoria paired a plaid overlay with kraft paper envelopes for a warm and cozy design.

From Victoria: I wanted to use a play on words of “housewarming” so I created a plaid blanket overlay to simulate a warm blanket effect.  Underneath that overlay, our house is revealed all warm and cozy.  An illustrated map card pinpoints the way to our guests.  The kraft envelopes add to the cozy, rustic charm and I even had a custom rubber return address stamp designed by Molly Jacques (who I discovered on Oh So Beautiful Paper!).  Molly’s calligraphy is so charming, I think it finishes off the invitations so beautifully.

Naomi’s Kraft Paper and Calligraphy Save the Dates

I have a confession: it’s enormously difficult for me to resist anything that combines kraft paper and calligraphy.  Calligrapher Tara of Tine and Thread sent over these save the dates that she created for an upcoming wedding, and the addition of gingham envelope liners just put me over the edge.  Too cute!

From Tara: I worked with the bride to create a save the date that complemented the overall vision of her wedding.  Her colors are very rustic, mostly earth tones with a touch of navy.  I chose to use kraft paper with navy blue gingham envelope liners and vintage stamps with blue accents.

I then took her wedding information and went to work.  After two rounds of design, I came up with something that she loved.  My specialty is calligraphy in a circular design and I incorporate that into most of my work.
