DIY Tutorial: Blue and White Rubber Stamp Save the Dates

We love blue and white as a color combo. It’s fresh, clean & add a great vintage touch without going overboard. A few weeks ago, while picking up some paper for my moving announcements (which will probably be a future DIY project), I spotted from across the room, some gorgeous floral fine art paper. This blue and white paper instantly reminded me of an inspiration post we’d written a while back about our very popular Copenhagen China Collection. After choosing the paper as my starting point, this lovely, demure, save the date came together quite quickly!  – Bailey and Emma of Antiquaria

The blue and white floral patterned paper used as backing adds visual interest and a luxurious quality to the design. It could also easily be used as an envelope liner.

Step One: You’ll want to first adhere the card to the patterned paper. To do this, use permanent spray mount on the back side of your A2 (4.25″ x 5.5″) card. Let the glue get tacky for a few seconds and then place your card onto the backer paper. Let the two pieces adhere well (like overnight) under a heavy book.

Step Two: Once you’ve waited for the glue to set, carefully trim the card so that the card and backer are the same size. The easiest way to do this is to use a metal ruler and craft knife on a seal healing mat. Take this step slow so that you don’t warp the size of the A2 front.

Step Three: Lay your backed A2 card on a hard, flat surface. Ink your invitation stamp (we used our Vintage Calligraphy Save the Date Stamp), using a midnight blue stamp pad and center over the backed card. Press down on stamp making certain to apply even pressure on the entire mount (especially the center). Lift stamp and let the print dry thoroughly.

Step Four: For a reverse effect, stamp your website card using white ink on a blue card. We used our Art Deco Website Stamp on a standard business sized card. This white ink pad really did the trick and was super opaque!

Step Five: Before addressing the save the dates, we stamped our return address (we used our Calligraphy Ampersand Return Address Stamp) on our light blue A2 envelopes.  All done!

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday!  This week was pretty awesome – on Monday I took a little field trip with the talented Michele of Meant to Be Calligraphy to visit Terrain.  Have you been?  It was my first time there and I was just floored by how beautiful everything is – I had to resist the urge to bring home a million new plants for our poor little garden (which sadly isn’t doing so well in the brutal DC summer heat).  And lunch at the cafe?  Sooooo good.  I can’t wait to go back!  But in the meantime…

Wedding Stationery Inspiraton: Geometric

Have you noticed the recent spike in geometric patterns, popping up everywhere from pillows to pants to wedding invitations? The triangle seems to be leading the way but I’m not discriminating, so today I’m talking all about geometric shapes and patterns for your day-of wedding stationery! If modern is your thing, you may already have graphic fonts or bold colors in the works, and a geometric addition could be the finishing touch you’ve been looking for. I am seriously loving those triangle seating charts, and that 3-D table number!? Who said your paper products ever had to remain two dimensional? — Kelly

Cristina’s Creative Map Moving Announcements

I love moving announcements – like birth announcements, it’s a chance to celebrate a happy life change in a creative way.  Designer Cristina Pandol commemorated her recent move with these super-creative moving announcements, which combine an everyday city map (from AAA no less!) with neon pink screen printed text and a modern arrow graphic.  So fun!

From Cristina: I saw my recent move as an opportunity to make an epic printed piece to send to my family and friends.  A lot of my family live in pretty rural areas of central California and are intimated by downtown Los Angeles, so the main objective here was to make my very dense neighborhood seem simple and easy to navigate.

After a few days in my new loft I found myself constantly looking on google maps for the nearest grocery story, dry cleaner, etc. when the idea to incorporate a map hit me.  It was so obvious that I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it before!  I went to a AAA office the following day and shamelessly flirted with the guy at the desk.  He gave me 50 maps for free (what a sweetheart).

Designing the type for the map was simple; the entire design was inspired by the industrial nature of a city.  I scanned the map, then laid Gotham over it and created the arrow to point exactly to the building I live in.  After that, the mailing label and the custom postage stamp just fell into place.

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone!  As much as I’d like for the days and weeks to slow down just a smidge (pleaseandthankyouverymuch), I’ll be happy to wave goodbye to summer in a few weeks.  Being 7+ months (we’re at 32 weeks!) pregnant during the hot and humid DC summer?  Maybe not the best idea I’ve ever had… so I’m distracting myself with daydreams of cooler days and beautiful fall foliage.  But in the meantime…
