Our Trip to Italy

“Positano bites deep.  It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone” – John Steinbeck

I feel like the Steinbeck quote applies to our entire two weeks in Italy.  I’ve been home for nearly two weeks and the entire trip still feels like an amazing dream.  Above all, it was so wonderful to see my husband after three months apart, but heartbreakingly difficult to say goodbye for another three months when it came time to come back home.  We visited Sorrento, Positano, and Rome, started each day with the most delicious cappuccinos, ate gelato every afternoon, had the most amazing pizzas we’ve ever tasted, and did an absolutely insane amount of walking in each city.  Here are a few highlights from our trip…

Sorrento…

So much wisteria I could barely stand it…

Positano…

The view from our hotel room at the Villa delle Palme – so perfect…

Rome…

Vatican City…

We visited Rome and The Vatican just a couple days before the beatification of Pope John Paul II – the city was totally packed!

  1. Those photos are amazingly beautiful! Now I’m dying to visit Italy as well. Hope you share more photos… those were fantastic. Also hope your trip was a dream! Glad you traveled home safely.

  2. What beautiful pictures!! Your Steinbeck quote is so appropriate and perfect. We got married at the Vatican and honeymooned in Sorrento and Positano. And they are exactly as you said…an amazing dream!

  3. My husband and I did two weeks in Italy a year and a half ago for our honeymoon and you made me miss it soooo much! We ate (and drank) our faces off but walked so much I actually lost weight while we were there! Glad you had an amazing trip.

  4. Positano is my happy place in the world! I haven’t been there in a little while, thanks so much for sharing your wonderful pictures!

  5. OMG! I was contemplating Florence and Tuscany last week for a getaway. No real sight seeing but a kind of laid back R & R. The Wisteria has totally convinced me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  6. Wow, I’m totally drooling over your photos.
I am heading to Rome in a few weeks, but alas, I only get 2 days there before heading around Europe.
I am planning a month trip in Italy next year.
I love everything about the Country, the food, the buildings, the fashions the smells.
Isn’t Sorrento just so soothing. It just calms me so much no stress at all (well except which Gelato flavour to choose)

  7. I can not stop saying OMG at every single photo! It’s like something has stirred inside or transformed me… or it’s quite possible that I have read entirely too much E.M. Forster.
