Birthday Treasures

I mentioned on twitter that, instead of new things, my Mom sends me little family heirlooms and treasures for my birthday each year.  Past gifts include some of my grandmother’s jewelry and my grandfather’s Army Air Corps pilot’s wings.  I never knew either of my grandparents on my mother’s side, so it’s nice to keep a tiny bit of family history with me.  This year, my Mom sent some family photos, and I thought I’d share a few:

  1. Old family treasures are the best gifts! These photos are incredible! Happy birthday!

PS: Your grandmother’s wedding dress is AMAZING. and I love your great-grandmother’s name! 😉

  2. I really love the idea of getting some old heirlooms for your birthday. I may have to steal this idea and request that my mom does the same from now on. 🙂

  3. happy belated birthday, nole! hope you had a great weekend. that is such a sweet birthday ritual. I’ve been recently asking my grandma to pass on bits of ephemera from my great-grandma (who lived with us for my first 13 years.) Love your grandparents’ wedding photo! You have sewing skills in your genes 🙂

  4. This is such a wonderful tradition for birthday gifts! I hope you had a great birthday!

  5. For a very brief instant, your grandmum’s wedding dress looked like a saree (Indian national dress that is one long piece of cloth draped around in different styles) to me! Lovely post 🙂
