Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Bougainvillea

Bougainvillea’s bright pops of color made it an instant hit on blogs and social media. It naturally worked its way onto the wedding scene in every piece from the alter to the dinner table. While bougainvillea is a beautiful vine that can be incorporated into many spaces of your wedding day, there is also a lot of inspiration to be pulled from its vibrant colors. – Lauren

Bougainvillea Wedding Inspiration

My initial inspiration came from this gorgeous bohemian wedding on Green Wedding Shoes. Taking a cue from the various tones of coral and pink, here are some fun ways to incorporate bougainvillea into for your wedding day.

Happy Weekend!

Well, hello August! My dad is coming down this weekend to help with some pre-baby house projects – and he’s staying all week, such a treat! I’m excited for Sophie to get some Grandpa time, which sadly doesn’t happen nearly often enough. I’m heading out to prepare for a few projects and (ahem) tidy up the house a bit, but in the meantime…

DIY Modern Color Splash Save the Dates

We’ve been up to our ears with floral patterns and soft pastels all summer. Don’t get us wrong, we love it – but we were craving something fresh! We dreamt up this new stamp collection and DIY project with a modern edge and bold, classic type, and we’re in love. The palette of black, white, and kraft was craving a pop of color so we added in a fun swash of turquoise as icing on the cake. – Bailey and Emma of Antiquaria

Step One: Stamp your save the date (we used our Modern Type Save the Date stamp) on an A6 kraft card. You’ll want to use a permanent ink, such as Color Box archival, so that it doesn’t bleed when the second color is added. Press firmly but moderately when printing on a flat surface, using your hands to make sure that the entire stamp has been printed. Let dry.

Step Two: To add our pop of turquoise color, we “splashed” a small cat eye stamp pad down the design, ending slightly below the wording. If you don’t get the coverage you’re looking for, you can touch it up as after your first pass. The benefit to using a small stamp pad vs. paint is that the water content in paint tends to warp the paper as it dries.

Step Three: Stamp your return address (we used our Modern Type Return Address stamp) with turquoise ink on a cream A6 envelope. We stamped the return address on the back in the lower left hand corner.

Step Four: For a bold graphic element, we added an envelope liner made with our Brushed Geo, No.2 Patterned paper cut to a 5.75″ x 6.25″ rectangle. Install the liner by taping it in right below the gum line using double sided tape.

DIY Mini Disco Ball Place Cards

Every now and then, I think people love to see a quirky, maybe even out of place detail, used in an interesting way. These are the conversation starters and the little things that make your event memorable. So when the disco ball started making its way into tropical destinations, I just couldn’t get enough of the boho beach vibes mixed with something usually saved for the club or ballroom. I decided to stick with mini versions and turn them into a super fun place card and favor all in one. These could also easily be made in a larger version as a vase or pot if you are looking for a little more bling to add to your table! – Lauren

Step 1: Remove the ornament top, this will be the bottom

Step 2: Flip over and begin to remove the top mirror pieces with your knife, stopping once you have a circle that is about 1″ in diameter

Step 3: Use the knife to cut into the styrofoam around the circle, pop that out and dig into the foam with the awl to create a bowl for your plant.

Step 4: Plant your succulent or place your air plants inside and you’re done!

DIY Tutorial: Disco Ball Succulent Favor and Place Card by Lauren Saylor for Oh So Beautiful Paper The bigger the plant, the more unstable the ball is going to be. So make sure to pick lightweight plants that aren’t too tall. Finish your table design by adding some candles to the table. The disco balls will catch the light and add a fun light show on the table. Plus with all this glitz at each place setting, you won’t want much competing with them! Photo Credits: Lauren Saylor for Oh So Beautiful Paper

Embroidery and Millinery Wedding Invitation Inspiration

As promised, I’m back with more from the talented Kristy Rice of Momental Designs from her shoot at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina! Kristy was inspired by cross-stitch embroidery and vintage millinery details to create two very different – but incredibly beautiful – wedding invitation designs that suit the antique beauty of the estate. Kristy incorporated an incredible level of detail into her designs, from watercolor cross-stitch inspired artwork to floral appliqués. Gorgeous!

From Kristy: This embroidery-inspired invitation reinterprets the look of cross stitch in watercolor and pattern.

Punchy blooms are made up of tiny watercolor “x” shapes in shades of coral, poppy, blue, and greens. The invitation is stretched into a copper painted embroidery hoop – all presented in a round box filled with fresh moss and tied up with white silk Dupioni ribbon.

With acres of forest woven throughout the property to include restaurants, shops and a winery, a hand-drawn map was a necessity for the navigation of guests. Although George Vanderbilt constructed a stately home with miles of landscaping ingenuity, his desire to live in the simplicity of the North Carolina mountains inspired me to instill this nature-inspired approach in my artwork.

Next up – an invitation suite inspired by vintage millinery details!

Millnery-Wedding-Invitations-Momental-Designs-OSBP-7

This invitation suite was inspired by vintage millinery and paper blooms in a beautiful bridal bouquet. Delicate rice paper magnolia blooms feature button centers and vintage millinery stamens. Sweet beaded strawberries peek out from behind the bloom. The invitation was hand painted in shades of fresh greens, gold, and white to mimic the textures of iconic oil paintings.
