National Stationery Show 2013, Part 1

It’s finally here! The 2013 National Stationery Show kicked off yesterday, and I’m so excited for a week full of wonderful stationery! I’ve only had a chance to walk a few aisles so far, but today I’m thrilled to kick off my NSS recaps with five of my favorite booths (so far) from this year’s show! First up, one of the biggest debuts of the year – 9th Letter Press! These ladies went all out with a huge booth filled with awesome letterpress stationery, including gift wrap and foil printed garlands, foil art prints, notebooks and notepads, stickers and fill-in party invitations, and of course tons of greeting cards and holiday cards!

I’ve been following the ladies of Tabletop Made for a loooong time, and it was wonderful to finally meet them in person at their adorable booth! So many cute things, from letterpress printed greeting cards and postcards to gift tags to art prints. I’m particularly loving the sparkly gold foil in the Far Out print below!

I was thrilled to stumble upon this booth from Minneapolis-based new exhibitor Benchpressed. I’m loving the hand lettering, illustrations, and bright colors in the sweet and snarky greeting cards and art prints – and of course I’m a fan of the monthly craft cocktail calendar!

The Rocket Ink booth was one of my favorite debuts last year, and this year Katie’s booth was full of beautiful city and state prints, a gorgeous gem-themed 2014 wall calendar, and lots of illustrated and hand lettered greeting cards, love cards, and holiday cards. And how cute is that fringe trim around the booth??

I’m completely overjoyed that Yellow Owl Workshop was back in their very own booth for this year’s show – and what a booth! Christine hand painted the walls in the most beautiful abstract pattern, which was the perfect backdrop for her colorful greeting cards, stamp kits, and necklaces. They also had their brand new carve-a-stamp kits on display and I’m beyond obsessed. So many possibilities!

NSS Sneak Peek: Meant to Be Sent

After sitting out last year, Robyn from Meant to Be Sent is returning to the National Stationery Show (Booth #2162)! This year she’s adding greeting cards, gift wrap and tags, notepads, and even some iphone cases to her collection! Lots of the new additions feature gold foil accents and bright colors, all with a fun and preppy style. So cute!

NSS Sneak Peek: Smock

Our next sneak peek comes from a familiar exhibitor – Smock (Booth #2341)! In addition to eco-friendly greeting cards, gift wrap, and boxes, this year the Smock booth will debut a brand new wedding invitation album with twelve design suites. The album includes an exclusive calligraphy font by the talented Molly Jacques, die cut shapes, six foil colors, and the ability to blind emboss or digitally print designs in combination with letterpress printing and foil stamping. I can’t wait to see the new designs in person!

NSS Sneak Peek: Pei Design

Our next Stationery Show sneak peek comes from a designer that had one of my favorite debuts last year – Pei Design (Booth #1774)! I love Pei’s modern style and knack for color. Last year’s collection included letterpress and foil stamped greeting cards, notebooks, and fill-in party invitations. This year Pei is expanding with art prints, calendars, notepads, wrapping paper, holiday postcards, and lots of greeting card designs! The new products are all locally printed in full color using FSC-certified paper.

Jamie + Aaron’s Modern Romantic Destination Wedding Invitations

These destination wedding invitations from Made by Kara combine the groom’s modern style with the bride’s romantic sensibilities. Kara incorporated letterpress printing and white foil with a color palette inspired by the island wedding venue – Anguilla! The resulting invitation is elegant and sophisticated, with lots of beautiful subtle texture.

From Kara: When Jamie and Aaron approached me to design their wedding invitations they asked for something unique that would “marry” their individual design sensibilities (the groom has more of a modern taste while the bride’s is more romantic). They also knew that inviting guests all the way to Anguilla was a big ask, so they wanted the save the invitation materials to excite their loved ones about the unique destination.

The suite was inspired by the colors and textures of the island. The invitation arrived in a custom folder, with stacked cards outlining the details of the wedding weekend. The letterpress, blind emboss, and white foil added texture to the simple design.

The save the date took on a playful format, personalized with each guest’s name and airport code and wrapped in a ticket sleeve. This was truly a designer’s dream job — Jamie and Aaron were amazing to work with and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!
