Sally + Gray’s Maine Map Destination Wedding Invitations

I’m completely powerless against the beauty of a fabulous map invitation, and these gorgeous destination wedding invitations from the ladies of Gus & Ruby Letterpress are no exception! Samantha and Whitney created these invitations for a wedding in Maine’s Acadia National Park, incorporating vintage maps, bright pops of orange, along with some playful wording. So fun!

From Samantha and Whitney: The suite was designed for an amazing couple (she’s a doctor who recently returned from Africa doing Doctor’s without borders, he’s a retired professional hockey player and they live in Anchorage Alaska, now!) who were married in gorgeous Acadia National Park in Maine. They wanted their stationery to reflect their love of Maine and the great outdoors while also showcasing their seriously fun-loving personalities.

We played primarily off vintage maps of Acadia National Park and fun language which spoke to the fact that this was a destination wedding for almost all the guests. Each invitation was mounted into a custom folio featuring a map of Maine and the latitude and longitude of their wedding location. The folio was held shut with an oversized belly band with sassy language that got guests excited for the weekend-long fête.

We used an inspiring color palette of peaches and oranges with pops of blue and gray to give nod to the autumn season without being super literal. Color backing papers, and a mixed variety of fonts helped to punch up the look. Of course, all the pieces were lovingly letterpress printed by hand on our antique press (c. 1896) on beautiful, textural, super thick 100% cotton paper.

Each guest also received individual guide booklets containing a schedule of events detailing the many fun things taking place over the weekend. The schedule of events booklet also doubled as a travel journal with blank pages at the back for notes and stories from the weekend. The covers of each booklet were letterpress printed on the outside and featured a full-flood map on the inside; flat printed, text weight pages were bound inside.

Lauren + Jeremy’s Illustrated Historical Australian Wedding Invitations

We’re having an international day! This next set of wedding invitations comes to us from Laura Macchia and was created for a wedding in Sydney, Australia. Laura illustrated the historic fort that served as the wedding reception location, with a few details in a wonderful peacock blue to add some fun pops of color. The invitation and accompanying info card was letterpress printed by Kelly at May Day Studio. Pretty!

From Laura: This two-color letterpress suite was designed for an Australian couple getting married in Sydney. The reception took place at Fort Denison, a historical site in the middle of Sydney Harbor. I illustrated the fort and included the one palm tree on the island, which was a great way to add a pop of color. The peacock envelopes are a perfect match and fun way to tie it all together.

Charles + Sara’s Travel-Inspired Calligraphy Wedding Invitations

From the beautiful calligraphy by Molly Jacques to the wonderful vintage map envelope liners, this gorgeous suite from Ruby the Fox is a wedding invitation after my own heart! The overall design was inspired by the destination wedding location – Rome! – and letterpress printed on thick cotton paper in a classic blue and white color palette. Just stunning!

From Megan: When this sweet-as-can-be couple came to me wanting a custom wedding suite for their June 2013 wedding in Rome, I knew it would be a fun project! They were hoping for something classic, yet modern, and something that reflected their love of travel. We opted to keep the design clean and simple, focusing on type and layout.

I reached out to amazing calligrapher/illustrator Molly Jacques to do the hand lettering for the suite which came out even better than we could have hoped! The gorgeous calligraphy was letterpress printed onto double-thick pearl white cotton paper in navy and sky blue inks. Molly also hand lettered the outer envelopes which I lined with a hand-cut vintage map of Italy.

On the details/information card, we incorporated an image of a Fiat the couple had taken on their last trip to Rome, which turned out to be such a sweet personal touch. The entire suite was tied together with twine in an “airmail” color scheme!

Noemi + BJ’s Hand Lettered Kraft Paper Wedding Invitations

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you had a relaxing holiday and fun New Year’s Eve! It was great to unplug and hang out with family for a few days, but I’m excited to be back and ready to tackle 2013 – starting with these fun hand lettered wedding invitations from J at Grey Snail Press! Created for a wedding in Colorado, J incorporated illustrations of mountains and pine trees along with her unique hand lettering.

From J Grey: After getting engaged in Yellowstone National Park, this delightful couple wanted an original, rustic invitation suite to go with their Colorado nuptials. Noemi and B.J. chose to exchange vows in a refurbished 1920s barn at Crooked Willow Farms, complete with a breathtaking view of the Rocky Mountains. We decided on an invitation suite with elements of mountains and pine trees, reminiscent of their Colorado venue and home, and a playful mix of script and print hand-lettering.

The couples’ color palette of cream, tobacco brown, and midnight blue was incorporated into the invitations. After original illustration and hand-lettering for each piece was complete, invitation suites were printed digitally in a dark brown ink. The actual invitation was printed on textured Kraft card stock, while the RSVP card was printed on a coordinating speckled cream card stock, and neatly tucked into a 4-bar navy envelope.

They planned to have an old-fashioned crescent moon for the backdrop of their photo booth at the reception, so we included a white crescent moon, individually drawn by hand, on the back flap of each tobacco brown outer envelope.  The crescent moon was also incorporated into the actual invitation, in the primitive ink landscape of the pines and Rocky Mountains.

Anthony + Casey’s Nature-Inspired Watercolor Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! We’re starting the week with two absolutely gorgeous wedding invitation suites. First up, this lovely nature-inspired wedding invitation from Laura McGlynn of Make Merry! Laura worked with this eco-conscious couple (the bride is a marine biologist!) and their wedding planner, Desiree Dawn Events, to create a stunning invitation that mixes watercolor and letterpress in desaturated tones of blue, green, and gray. So pretty!

From Laura: Anthony and Casey were both born and raised in Florida; Casey is a marine biologist and both are eco-conscious. Casey wanted a rustic but elegant wedding, and we built our inspiration around the couple’s love of Florida’s waters, their support of mangrove conservation, and their outdoor wedding venue (beautifully situated on the banks of the Loxahatchee River in Tequesta, Florida).

We settled on the elements of watercolor and mangrove, and colors drawn from nature – water, driftwood, and greenery. The couple wanted to make sure to keep a balance of masculine (the colors) and feminine (the flowing script and the soft watercolors) to represent them both. To keep it elegant and subtle, we went with a blind deboss of the mangrove on the invitation card, with the text letterpress printed in a dark taupe color. I designed a watercolor print in desaturated hues of blue, green and gray and used that to back the invitation.

The RSVP postcard features a dark taupe rendition of the mangrove tree. We kept the Welcome Party invitation simple and affordable in one color letterpress, adding a little mangrove seedling; the bride mentioned afterwards that the seedling was like their relationship: one more day as a seedling (the party was the night before the wedding) until they become a full-grown tree in marriage. Isn’t that so sweet? My favorite piece just might be the envelope, with the bride’s adorably perfect last name and the soft watercolor splatters in blue, green, and gray.
