Monique + Karl’s Teal and Chipboard Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Monique from Metal Doily Press sent over the invitations from her wedding earlier this year – and I love that she chose to print them on thick chipboard! Monique paired the chipboard with a bright teal blue and chevron stripe accents to complement the modern decor in her wedding. So pretty!

From Monique: Our wedding took place at the Old Hollywood-inspired Ebell Club of Long Beach. From the moment we got engaged I had a good idea of the elements I wanted use in the invitations: chevron stripes, Jessica Hische’s Buttermilk font, the color teal, and letterpress printing. My husband and I worked on choosing the secondary font and other details together.

I started by hand lettering our save the date information, which I then turned into a custom rubber stamp. I stamped the design onto thin chipboard in black ink and paired it with a teal envelope to hint at the colors that would be coming with the invitation suite.

The letterpress printed invitation is a 3-color piece: a blind impression chevron stripe at the bottom and text in teal and black. With our thick 100 pt chipboard, the hotel information was easily letterpress printed on one side and the the driving directions to the venue on the other. I chose to flat print the RSVP card as I would be having those all mailed back to me.

Marissa + Mike’s Whimsical Silhouette Wedding Invitations

Leslie from Lilly & Louise sent over these adorable whimsical wedding invitations that she created for a recent wedding, complete with playful wording and sweet silhouettes of the couple. I’m loving the beachy Santa Barbara-inspired color palette of soft pink and blue with kraft paper accents. Such a fun invitation suite!

From Leslie: Marissa and Mike wanted their wedding invitation to knock their guests’ socks off when they opened their mailbox. They planned a Santa Barbara wedding full of personal touches and wanted their invitation to the set the stage. With a mix of fun typefaces and a subtle color palette inspired by the wedding venue, we created an accordion folding booklet wedding invitation with wording sure to cause a chuckle, a postcard RSVP, and a belly band with silhouettes of the bride and groom with their endearing nicknames.

We incorporated the typefaces used on the invitation into the the guests’ addresses that we typeset and printed onto each envelope. The suite reflected Marissa and Mike’s fun-loving personalities perfectly and gave guests a taste of the exciting celebration they were planning.

Amy + Brandon’s Modern Glam Sunburst Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! I’m thrilled to be starting the week with a gorgeous set of invitations with architecture-inspired details from Lisa at Missive! Lisa incorporated a beautiful gold foil starburst detail inspired by chandeliers at the wedding venue along with modern sans serif and script fonts. I love the combination of the gold foil with the bright red and aqua color palette. The entire suite is so pretty!

From Lisa: Amy and Brandon’s wedding suite was inspired by interior architectural details at their wedding venue. The chandeliers inside the venue had an interesting starlike pattern that Amy wanted to incorporate into her invitations, so I designed a starburst element which was carried through from her save the date to wedding invitations to thank you notes, where it appears as their new monogram.

Once I learned more about Amy’s vision for her venue decor — from a huge curtain of red and aqua fringe streamers and gold dot garland to jars filled with glowing candlelight, it was clear that her wedding invitation suite needed a glamorous feel. The invitations were letterpress printed in Amy’s bold wedding colors, a rich red and vivid aqua blue, complemented by the shiny gold starbursts.

Modern sans-serif typefaces were paired with an exquisite, flourished script for all of the pieces in this suite. We upped the glam factor with envelopes in bright punchy colors, which were also foil stamped with the couples’ return address. This suite was all about sparkle and shine and I loved that the bride did not shy away from bold color and gleaming gold details!

DIY Tutorial: Indigo Floral Print Wedding Invitations

We’ve always had a love affair with indigo – in fact, the wedding quilt that Emma’s mother created for her is made from scraps of vintage Japanese indigo fabrics. With its recent rise in popularity we decided that indigo would make the perfect inspiration for an invitation suite. The deep blue and white color scheme, mixed with floral elements and classic typography, makes it a design suitable for any season! – Bailey and Emma of Antiquaria

Tie the square invitation and enclosure pieces together with indigo dyed twine and your guests will feel like they’re opening a gift!

Step One: Lay a  5.5″ square card down on a firm surface. Ink your stamp (we used our Sophisticate Invitation Stamp) thoroughly and center it over your card. Once it is positioned correctly, press down to make a print. Use both hands to ensure even pressure. Lift off and let the print dry. For more information on this process go here.

Step Two: You will repeat the printing technique from Step 1 for your reply card (we used our Sophisticate Reply Card Stamp) on a 4bar (3.5″x4.75″) card.  This time, instead of centering the stamp, you will print it toward the bottom of the card. This leaves space to print the floral pattern (we used our Daisy Pattern & Small Leaves Pattern Stamps) at the top. It’s best to start with the larger pattern stamp and then fill in with the smaller leaf stamp.

Step three: We love to incorporate patterns in to our invitation suites, whether it’s an envelope liner, backer or belly band…it adds so much style and personality to the design. We created this indigo pattern by randomly stamping pattern stamps (we used our Camellia Pattern, Daisy Pattern and Small Leaves Pattern Stamps) in frost white ink on 8.5″ x 11″ card stock. The effect that it creates is so lovely!

Step Four: To make the accommodations card, you will need to cut the 8.5″ x 11″ patterned paper into 5″ squares (you will get 2 per sheet). Next, ink and stamp your accommodations information (we used our Calligraphy Accent Accommodations Stamp) on the front of the navy blue card.

Step Five: Using the same printing technique as above, you will print your return address and reply address (we used our Wildflowers Return Address Stamp) on the outer and reply envelopes. Now all that’s left is to tie everything together, address your envelopes, add postage (we used awesome blue vintage postage from Verde Studio) and send them on their way!
