Sneak Peek – Martha Stewart Weddings Winter 2013 Issue!

The Winter 2013 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings comes out next week, and – my oh my – if the cover is any indication, this is going to be a seriously gorgeous issue! I know everyone is dying to see the details of a certain wedding featured in this issue, but today I have a special sneak peek of the stationery story to share with you!

For this issue, the editors have created their own stationery love story – what could be better?? The editors have included a timeline to show you how to incorporate stationery during every stage of your romance, from the calling cards you exchange on your first date to the moving announcements that mark the beginning of newlywed life. And of course, since this is Martha Stewart Weddings, there are also save the dates, engagement party invitations, bridal shower invitations, thank you notes, and more! The stationery story features ten great ideas by ten talented creative designers (and some of our favorites here at OSBP), including Paperfinger, Sugar Paper, Moglea, Sideshow Press, Linea Carta, and Duet Letterpress!

The full issue will be on newsstands on Monday (and is available as a digital edition for the iPad) – but in the meantime you can check out a little peek of the new issue here!

{happy weekend!}

What. A. Week. While we weathered the storm pretty well here in DC, my thoughts have been with those in New York and New Jersey affected by Hurricane Sandy.  The images and stories of the destruction are completely overwhelming and I know the road to recovery, much less the restoration of power, will be a long one.  When I haven’t been completely glued to the news, somewhere between last weekend and today, my little Sophie suddenly stopped looking like a newborn and started looking like a real baby.  She’s getting bigger each and every day, even though she’s still smaller at 7 weeks than some newborns, she’s paying closer attention to objects, and she’s smiling at us!  The smiles just make my heart melt.  This weekend we’re planning to visit our favorite flea market and relax at home, but in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

That’s it for me this week!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday – when I’ll start sharing some of my favorite holiday cards! xoxo

Bailey’s Creative Bridal Shower Invitations

Today I’m thrilled to feature the bridal shower invitations for Bailey Amon of Antiquaria, created by Bailey’s business partner (and talented calligrapher) Emma James.  You might recognize Bailey and Emma from their regular DIY tutorials here on OSBP, so it’s no surprise that these bridal shower invitations  reflect their clever DIY sensibilities.  Emma incorporated  vintage illustrations and her beautiful hand lettering into the design, which was then accented with ribbons and rubber stamp details.

From Emma: Bailey’s wedding was in La Jolla, California and we held her shower on the morning of the wedding. We began with brunch at an adorable cafe called The Cottage and then walked back to her hotel suite for mimosas and presents.

For the shower invitations, I wanted to design something really special that would get her guests even more excited about coming to La Jolla. The invitation was hand lettered and printed with an awning striped background. Since Bailey loves hot air balloons I used a vintage illustration of one as the front of the enclosure/rsvp card.

The invitations were mailed in A7 box mailers in pool from Paper Source. I designed a logo for the outside of the box and had it made into a rubber stamp, which was used to emboss the logo on the front of the box.

Black + White Bridal Shower Invitations

Annemarie from Scout’s Honor Co. here! When designing these bridal shower invitations for a client,  I was excited to work in the requested palette of black and white — with hits of gold. To keep costs down, we opted to print the cards digitally with black ink only and use accents to incorporate the gold (vs. printing with metallic gold ink which requires a more expensive method of printing). This is a great route to take for events with smaller guest lists. The design was hand-lettered and printed as a 2-sided card, with all of the pertinent details on the back. The gold accents included black/gold metallic baker’s twine (to tie around each invite), striped washi tape (to seal the envelopes), and gold pens (to address the envelopes).

Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Black + White Stripes

I can talk about stationery trends and punchy color palettes all day long, but there’s something about simple black and white that always has me coming back for more. Black and white stripes, in this case. They can be bold and modern, making a statement on your wedding menu, or they can blend seamlessly into your classic, chic ceremony as a simple thin border on your programs. I don’t think I could pick a side on that battle, which is why I’ve rounded up the pattern in both forms today: large and in charge and sweet and demure. Which team are you on!? — Kelly
