Paper Artwork — Marian Bantjes

Let's start this Friday morning off with a bit of eye candy, shall we?  How about these foil stamped posters — with silver foil on blue and copper paper — by Marian Bantjes?

Sigh — isn't it lovely?  There's also a laser-cut (no ink!) version:

I love all the tiny pattern details in the design, not to mention Marian's custom hand lettering (you can see more of her hand lettering and beautiful design work on her website right here).  These posters were created for the non-profit organization Academy for Educational Development, but I could definitely see these posters serving as some pretty fabulous wedding invitation design inspiration!

Modern + Minimalist Wedding Invitations

I was just thinking the other day about how beautiful calligraphy can look, especially when letterpressed, just on its own in a wedding invitation design.  Then I saw these letterpress invitations from Bespoke Press, which just prove that calligraphy isn't the only kind of lettering that can stand on its own – this serif typeface achieves the same result, but with a slightly more clean and modern look:

So beautiful and simple at the same time – and the pink ink color is such a nice additional touch.  I love it!  You can read more about the inspiration behind this design on the Bespoke Press blog right here.

Reusable Felt Gift Wrap

I saw this felt gift wrap from Small Adventure on Hello!Lucky last week and thought it was an incredibly cool idea. Not only is the gift wrap entirely reusable, but it's also designed to look like mailing envelopes – complete with plastic sleeves so that you can change out the "to" and "from" labels!

The felt envelopes measure approximately 13.25" x 9.25" — so definitely big enough for any books, calendars or say, stationery sets, that you might want to give as holiday gifts.  I can't believe I'm already talking about the holidays, but you know they're going to be here before we know it!  So in case you're one of the organized few already thinking about holiday shopping, you can find these felt gift wrap envelopes right here.

Caitlin + Joseph’s Vintage Aviation Wedding Invitations

I am so excited about today’s real invitations!  The invitations were submitted by the bride, Caitlin, who is thrilled with the custom design that her stationer, Li Lai, developed for her invitations.  As you’ll see, Caitlin and her husband Joseph went for a vintage aviation theme in their wedding invitation design.  The aviation theme was itself inspired by the album artwork from one of their favorite bands, Neutral Milk Hotel.  I love, love the way Caitlin worked with Li to translate this inspiration to a successful wedding invitation, so let’s get right to it!

From Caitlin: We asked Li to design something flight-themed using a vintagey line-drawing style.  We actually gave her the liner notes to one of our favorite albums, “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel, to use as inspiration for the overall design (Aeroplane was also our wedding song):

Li found a bunch of flight images and tweaked them a little bit (adding the people in the hot air balloon on the front, etc.) and created a really wonderful, whimsical invitation:

The invitations include a pocket for the RSVP card and return envelope, as well as a fun bookmark containing all of the directions (and a bird charm tied on with pale green string).  I think the bookmark is my favorite part, with all of the weird images of different antique flight contraptions:

Finally, Li made us a custom rubber stamp with a crest tweaked to include our initials, with which all of our envelopes were stamped with on the back:

Gorgeous!  I love the way all the different elements work together, from the kraft paper envelopes and details to the vintage design elements and drawings, while still reflecting the design’s original lyrical inspiration.  You can check out more from Li Lai’s portfolio — including Caitlin + Joseph’s bird-themed Save the Date — right here.  Thanks Caitlin!

Getting Stuff Done

I love Summer's Thought of the Day series over on Design is Mine — this screen printed poster from Mary Kate McDevitt was Monday's thought of the day and I'm thinking about making it my new motto:

And at only $5 from Mary Kate McDevitt's etsy shop this poster is a pretty good deal if you need a bit of inspiration (or a friendly reminder) in your home or office.
