Elegant and Rustic Wood Engraved Wedding Invitations

Spring is my favorite season of the year, but I’m really looking forward to Autumn this year.  I can’t wait for fall fashion and food, the changing leaves – and of course I have personal reasons to be excited for the upcoming season.  Des from Paper Airplanes sent over one of her newest designs, an elegant invitation inspired by crab apples and engraved on cherry wood veneer.  So pretty!

From Des: The invitation suite was inspired by a rustic organic theme and used a palette of white, green and yellow hues to create a warm autumn feel.  Carrying the circle monogram across all the pieces tied everything together as well as using the vintage crab apple illustration on the response card and program.  The invitation and menu are engraved on cherry wood veneer and truly finish off this organic invitation suite.

Great Gatsby-Inspired Art Deco Wedding Invitations

I’m a longtime fan of Art Deco design from the 1920s and 1930s; the Chrysler Building in New York City has long been one of my favorite buildings, and I love the bold colors and geometric patterns typically associated with the period.  I was thrilled when Erin from Lucky Luxe Couture Correspondence sent over their newest wedding invitation, an Art Deco design inspired by the upcoming film adaptation of the Great Gatsby.  Let’s take a look!

From Erin of Lucky Luxe Couture Correspondence: We’ve noticed a renewed interest in our Gatsby save the date postcard, presumably because of the upcoming release of the new Baz Luhrmann movie, so we’ve created a Gatsby invitation suite that matches the save the date. Our Muse design has been very popular with weddings inspired by the art nouveau period, and we wanted to be able to offer another historical option with an art deco design.

Inspired by the upcoming film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, this romantic and ornamental invitation celebrates the decadently lavish parties on the North Shore of  1920s Long Island.  We see the invitation and imagine shiny Roadsters zipping across the Brooklyn bridge, glamorous women dancing the Charleston with men in their most dapper tuxedoes at the event of the season.

We had a gilded mansion ballroom with onyx and jade decor in mind when creating the design, though of course the colors can be customized to suit the color palette of any couple.

And just FYI for any 1920s-inspired couples out there: all arts period designs (including Gatsby and Muse) from Lucky Luxe Couture Correspondence are 15% off through September 10!  Thanks so much Erin!

Lindsey + Bradley’s Elegant Pink and Gold Foil Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone!  We’re starting the week with these elegant wedding invitations in one of my favorite color combinations (pink and gold!) from Kimberly at Daily Sip Studios.  Kimberly combined gold foil with pale pink paper for an incredibly sophisticated wedding invitation suite.  So beautiful!

From Kimberly: This design was custom made for a bride who designed her wedding around a pink, coral, and metallic gold color palette.  For the invitations, she wanted something unique and wanted her husband-to-be’s name as the focal point of the invitation design.  I accomplished this by designing their names in Adios Script font with an extra point stroke.

We had just enough room on the press for a matching accommodations card, reply card, and a monogram square.  The amazing thing about this wedding invitation suite is that the appearance changes with the lighting.  When viewed in sunlight, it has a beautiful radiant metallic glow!

The metallic foil wedding suite was delicately letterpress printed  on textured Pale Pink Arturo paper by a renowned printer in Chicago, who prints metallic foil projects using special copper plates (as opposed to plastic or steel-backed photopolymper plates).

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone!  It was a beautiful week here in DC, and a few days below 90 degrees has me really looking forward to cooler fall days in just a few weeks.  We also had a busy week of baby preparations, from taking a birth class to scheduling consultations with prospective pediatricians, and with so much information to process and things to think about it has been easy to feel overwhelmed.  We’re slowly starting to feel more and more prepared – as much as we can for first time parents!  But in the meantime…

That’s it for me this week!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday! xoxo

DIY Tutorial: Blue and White Rubber Stamp Save the Dates

We love blue and white as a color combo. It’s fresh, clean & add a great vintage touch without going overboard. A few weeks ago, while picking up some paper for my moving announcements (which will probably be a future DIY project), I spotted from across the room, some gorgeous floral fine art paper. This blue and white paper instantly reminded me of an inspiration post we’d written a while back about our very popular Copenhagen China Collection. After choosing the paper as my starting point, this lovely, demure, save the date came together quite quickly!  – Bailey and Emma of Antiquaria

The blue and white floral patterned paper used as backing adds visual interest and a luxurious quality to the design. It could also easily be used as an envelope liner.

Step One: You’ll want to first adhere the card to the patterned paper. To do this, use permanent spray mount on the back side of your A2 (4.25″ x 5.5″) card. Let the glue get tacky for a few seconds and then place your card onto the backer paper. Let the two pieces adhere well (like overnight) under a heavy book.

Step Two: Once you’ve waited for the glue to set, carefully trim the card so that the card and backer are the same size. The easiest way to do this is to use a metal ruler and craft knife on a seal healing mat. Take this step slow so that you don’t warp the size of the A2 front.

Step Three: Lay your backed A2 card on a hard, flat surface. Ink your invitation stamp (we used our Vintage Calligraphy Save the Date Stamp), using a midnight blue stamp pad and center over the backed card. Press down on stamp making certain to apply even pressure on the entire mount (especially the center). Lift stamp and let the print dry thoroughly.

Step Four: For a reverse effect, stamp your website card using white ink on a blue card. We used our Art Deco Website Stamp on a standard business sized card. This white ink pad really did the trick and was super opaque!

Step Five: Before addressing the save the dates, we stamped our return address (we used our Calligraphy Ampersand Return Address Stamp) on our light blue A2 envelopes.  All done!
