Jett’s Little Newsboy Birth Announcements

Okay, so these little newsboy birth announcements from Suzanne of SHE Paperie are pretty much the cutest thing ever! The headline format provides the perfect spot for baby Jett’s adorable newborn photograph, while all the important details are enclosed in the “article” text below. Beautiful letterpress printing on super-thick gray paper and newspaper envelope liners complete the design!

From Suzanne: The vision for this custom birth announcement was all about newspaper! Before her baby arrived, my client found a tiny newsboy cap for him to wear during his newborn photo session with with Natalie Ann Photography. I collected newspapers from the actual day of the baby’s birth and used them to line the inside of each envelope. We also used a stack of the same newspapers for the baby to lay on during his newborn session.

The featured photo was digitally printed then mounted onto 333 lb. Gmund gray cotton paper stock. The beautiful letterpress work was done by Somersault Letterpress. Together, the creative verbiage, luxe cotton paper, and special envelope liners created the perfect touch to what what I’d imagined this birth announcement to be. Announcing baby Jett’s arrival to the world was truly a newsworthy event!

Adrienne + Dillon’s 5th Anniversary BBQ Party Invitations

More than all the details and pretty invitations, the thing that I really love about parties is that they’re an excuse to get all of your favorite people together in one place. So naturally, I’m loving the spirit behind these 5th anniversary party invitations from Lisa at Good on Paper! Lisa incorporated gingham patterns and an icon of the Golden Gate bridge (which she originally used on their wedding invitations five years ago!), all letterpress printed by the talented team at Paper Monkey Press.

From Lisa: From their wedding invitation design to birth announcements for their second child, Adrienne and Dillon Rogers are the definition of repeat clients. For their 5th anniversary BBQ in Napa, I designed a modern rustic letterpress invitation set.

Graphic details included a pink and red gingham pattern, wood type fonts, and the San Francisco bridge + hearts icon originally used on their wedding invitations.

Guests were encouraged to write or draw a little inspiration on the RSVP postcard. I also designed gingham envelope liners, custom wraparound address labels, place cards, menus, and wood mounted party signs.

Kristen + Austin’s 1950s-Inspired Lake Tahoe Wedding Invitations

Ooooh, laser engraved wood wedding invitations! For these destination wedding invitations, Courtney from Swiss Cottage Designs paired the wood invitation with colorful accents inspired by the venue – Lake Tahoe! With her fabulous eye for detail, Courtney incorporated lots of cute and quirky elements into the day-of wedding stationery, from custom camp-inspired patches to welcome tote bags.

From Courtney: This suite was inspired by 1950s Lake Tahoe with a modern twist: so think Rat Pack, martinis and camping in retro cabins under the stars. Lake Tahoe is notoriously blue so it was natural to have cobalt blue be the star of the show. The bold yellow color complemented the blue and helped play into the ’50s inspiration.

When it came to the invitation, Kristen wanted to do something with wood to represent the nature of Tahoe. I found an amazing vendor to laser engrave these on double thick wood. It was a great touch and the invites actually smelled a bit like firewood which was an awesome bonus element! With the RSVP card, we wanted it to feel like a post card you would grab when traveling through the area on vacation.

Since this was a destination wedding, we wanted the save the date to act as an incentive package to guests. I created a two fold brochure filled with fun facts about Tahoe as well as travel details, hotel info. and more. With destination weddings, the save the dates always end up being a bit more important as guests need to book early. As an extra element to help tie suite together, we came up with the idea of doing an actual patch like you might get at camp. I ended up working with a great vendor who created the patches (2.5″ x 2.5″) with iron-on material on the back. Some guests even showed up with the patches adhered to their outfits. Brilliant!

My favorite element is the envelope liner. Lake Tahoe is the second deepest Lake in the country so I thought it might be cool to highlight that with a depth chart. Depth charts aren’t exactly the most exciting thing but by using different shades of cobalt and placing it against the clean white paper, it was a great design element that really added to the suite.

For the day of elements, we played with cocktail napkins, drink stirrers, buttons, custom kazoos (weird, but fun!), “Keep Tahoe Blue” stickers, and silk screened tote bags.  I’m a firm believer that the day of elements really help round out the event. It’s such a fun way to bring all the great details from your save the date and invitation into the big day!

Friday Happy Hour: The Continental School

Just a few days ago, I wrote that there was still a sliver of summer left and still a bit of time to enjoy summer cocktails. But today I’m also going to start exploring some fall cocktails. Pretty soon it will be time to put away the drinks of summer – fizzy with soda water and ginger beer, light from rum or tequila, drenched in ice and fruit, that sort of thing – and break out the drinks of fall with their crisp herbal flavors, heavy with cider and apply brandy and rye, and maybe even some port and sherry. Here’s one own recipes, and one of my favorite fall drinks, a cocktail tribute to the flavors (and the mad philosophers) of continental Europe: the Continental School. – Andrew

2 oz Rye Whiskey
1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
1/2 oz Benedictine
1/4 oz Green Chartreuse
2 Dashes Orange Bitters

Combine the whiskey, vermouth, Benedictine and Chartreuse with lots of ice and stir well.  Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, add the bitters, and garnish with a lemon twist. Enjoy!

Sweet vermouth is, of course, a fortified wine flavored with all sorts of herbs and other botanicals. Chartreuse, as I’ve mentioned before, is an incredible blend of herbs made by French monks(!!) from a centuries-old secret recipe. Benedictine is, like Chartreuse, a French liqueur made from a secret blend of herbs and other botanicals, though its claims to the same antique heritage as Chartreuse are a little more circumspect. Which doesn’t mean it’s any less good, though. So in other words, the Continental School has a presence to be reckoned with. It’s a robust drink, boozy with a big, silky mouth feel. It’s rich and sweet and a bit spicy from all that herbal liqueur.

This isn’t a drink for everyone. Nole, whose tastes range much lighter and sweeter, would absolutely hate this one. And that’s ok, not everyone needs to love every drink.  But I know some of you will love this one, so try one before dinner… or to warm up on the next crisp fall night.

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone! My sweet Sophie had a big week: she started daycare on Tuesday! She did great this week, but I was a complete wreck on her first day. We’re all still figuring out our new routine, but it turns out that I’m approximately 800% more productive when I don’t have a whirlwind baby to chase after during the day. I miss my girl while she’s at daycare, but getting things done? So. Good. Today she’s home with me, so I’m heading out to enjoy this beautiful fall weather with her. But in the meantime…
