Mary + Ben’s Elegant and Rustic Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone!  You might remember these fabulous wood veneer save the dates from Melissa and Amy at Atheneum Creative – and today they’re back with the gorgeous wedding invitations and day-of stationery.  We’ll start with the invitations first before moving onto the stationery details a bit later today.  Melissa and Amy honored the rustic elegance of the save the dates with subtle wood veneer elements in the invitation suite.  So pretty!

From Melissa + Amy: We are so grateful that Mary and Ben trusted us with the stationery for their entire wedding day!  They allowed us to push the envelope on all their materials and challenged us to step it up!  We previously shared the letterpress printed wood save the date, which really set the tone for the invitation and day of materials.

For the invitation we introduced calligraphy while keeping the rustic look from the save the date.  Mary loves mixing materials and printing methods, so we letterpress printed the invitation and backed it with wood veneer, while foil stamping (and letterpress printing) the reception card.  The whole set is bound by a velvet bellyband and letterpress printed wood tag.

Just gorgeous!  Check back a bit later for the day-of stationery from Mary and Ben’s wedding, including their beautiful menus and ceremony programs!

Madeline + Josh’s Rustic Kraft Paper Tennessee Wedding Invitations

Happy Tuesday everyone!  After a much-needed long weekend, we’re jumping right back into the week with a gorgeous set of wedding invitations from Erin at Arboreal.  Erin created these beautiful and rustic invitations for a farm wedding in Tennessee.  The invitations feature one of my favorite combinations – kraft paper and white text – and Erin also worked with the couple to create corresponding menus, thank you cards, and favor tags!

From Erin of Arboreal:  I met Madeline and Josh last year and worked with them on all of their paper goods, from the save the date down to the programs and favor tags.  Working with two creatives (an interior designer and an architect) was refreshing – I love the fact that these two cared about every detail just as much as I did!

The main invitation and tag were both letterpress printed.  The celebration dinner, reply card, map card, and program are foil stamped in white along with chocolate flat ink on kraft paper.  Finishing details include vintage stamps and white calligraphy on kraft paper envelopes plus favor tags and thank you notes.

Such a beautiful invitation suite – thanks Erin!

Wedding Details: Escort Cards and Place Cards

You already know how much I love wedding invitations, but I also love day-of wedding stationery – place cards, ceremony programs, menus, and all sorts of other fun papery goodness.  Today we’re rounding up some of the prettiest and most creative ideas as inspiration for all of you, starting with escort card and place card ideas!  There are so many ways to get creative with escort and place cards for your wedding that everyone can find something that fits in with their style or theme.

You can’t go wrong with a silhouette escort card for a classic wedding (left), and this “seating cards in a bottle” idea is so creative!  Both from Martha Stewart Weddings

I want to go to a wedding that features these adorable button escort cards! (left)  Equally adorable is using a typewriter to type each person’s name and then attaching a vintage typewriter key (right).  Both via Martha Stewart Weddings.

Stay tuned for more beautiful escort and place cards!

p.s. Do you know the difference between place cards and escort cards?  Simply put, escort cards guide your guest to their designated table, while place cards help guests find their assigned seat.  Escort cards are typically placed at a central location at the entrance to the reception.  Guests will find their card, then locate their table based on the number indicated on the card.  Place cards, which are only necessary if you have assigned seating at your reception, sit at each individual place setting – hence the name!

Burlap + Twine Invitations

I love seeing different materials incorporated into invitations, whether for weddings, showers, or birthday parties.  So when I received an e-mail from a reader (Hi Brandi!) seeking inspiration for a Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer party, the first thing that popped into my head was burlap!  I wasn’t able to find any photos of invitations printed directly onto burlap, but here are a few images incorporating burlap and twine as lovely accent materials:

The wedding invitation above by D*lsh Design for photographer Brandon Kidd features a band of burlap tied around kraft and cotton paper invitation elements.

Christine mailed her own wedding invitations (above) in a dark green burlap envelope – such a great idea!

I could totally see these cotton handkerchief invitations from XOWYO being mailed in a burlap inner envelope, or attached to burlap backing.

I love fabric pockets for invitations and ceremony programs – burlap could easily be substituted for cotton in these ceremony program pockets from Chewing the Cud for a more rustic feel.

Have any of you used burlap or twine in your invitations?  If so, I’d love to see photos!

Kelli + Sam Romantic Vintage-Inspired Wedding Invitations

As promised, here are Kelli + Sam’s wedding invitations!  For her invitations, Kelli went for a rustic and vintage-inspired design, incorporating images of lace and worn paper with birds and branches for a romantic garden feel.  Kelli also worked with a local printer to create a mold and die cut the main invitation and reception card, giving those pieces a lovely unique shape.

From Kelli: The theme of my wedding was Vintage Garden Romance, and I wanted my invitations to reflect that theme.  Being a graphic designer myself, I always knew I would create my own wedding invitations, so I began my inspiration folder early!

I decided that much of my decor would be very delicate and romantic, mixing natural fabrics with pearls, lace and feathers.  I planned on using a lot of twigs and branches and “woodsy decor” as well in design and decoration, and because it was an outdoor wedding in the middle of November, I wanted it to have a taste of Fall (without being too predictable).

I opted for a very light color palate, with soft and natural hues.  The main color being a pale peach.  I created a branch frame as my foundation for the invitation and worked from there.  I have always loved the  look of aged paper, whether it be coffee stained or torn or burnt around the edges, so I scanned in some old tattered lined paper and used that as my background.

I then layered strips of lace across the top to give it that bit of romance I was going for.  Finally, the silhouetted lovebirds and feather accents served as the “garden” inspiration.
