Quick Pick: Courtney Khail Watercolor Stationery

I’ve long admired the work of watercolor artist Courtney Khail – and I was excited to hear that she just released a new line of notecards! Each card is printed on thick 100% cotton paper, comes with a cotton paper envelope, and Courtney took care to make sure that the printed cards are as close to the original watercolor paintings as possible. Each card is printed twice: once to capture the watercolor, and a second time to capture the black line work. These cards would be great to have on hand for sending impromptu notes, or even to give as hostess gifts!

Her original watercolor paintings are pretty great, too – I love all the citrus paintings for summer!

Paper Party 2014 Invitations!

You’ve already seen the photos from the 2014 Paper Party during the National Stationery Show, but today I wanted to share a few photos of my most favorite detail from the entire party: the invitations! The party invitations have become a dream project each year, with an amazing team contributing to everything from design to printing to envelope addressing. This year I was lucky enough to work with Mr. Boddington’s Studio, Smock, Mohawk, and Meant to Be Calligraphy. I’m so excited to share the resulting invitations with you!

I was absolutely thrilled to work with Mr. Boddington’s Studio on this year’s design – they designed everything from email save the dates to the tote gift bag design! I wanted the invitations to reflect the quirky sophistication that has become Mr. Boddington’s Studio signature style while also complementing our floral party inspiration. We decided to keep the main invitation in classic black and white with a botanical wreath printed in shiny metallic gold foil – all letterpress printed by Smock.

We printed the invitations on Mohawk’s Superfine Ultrawhite Eggshell 130 lb paper. The envelopes are Mohawk’s Loop Antique Vellum Kraft paper envelopes in A7 size. Mr. Boddington’s Studio also designed a fun patterned envelope liner to add a little surprise of color, which was digitally printed by Smock.

The amazingly talented Michele from Meant to Be Calligraphy addressed the envelopes in her Jackson style. We picked a light aqua ink to complement the blue in the envelope liners – I love the way it looks against the kraft paper!

DIY Watermelon Serving Tray

I tagged along with Nole for this year’s National Stationery Show, and there was no denying that the fruit-of-the-moment for graphic designers, illustrators, and stationers is pineapple. However, we ventured to guess that the next big fruit is watermelon, so when I got back home I couldn’t resist whipping up a watermelon-themed DIY perfect for summer entertaining. Today, we’re transforming an unfinished wooden circle available at most home improvement stores into an adorable serving tray worthy of any backyard party!  – Mandy Pellegrin of Fabric Paper Glue

Step Four: Once the paint has fully dried, make sure the tray is free of any dust, and apply a coat of shellac to the entire tray. This will protect the painted surface and give it a nice shine.

Step Five: Put on the finishing touches by using an electric drill and screwdriver to install a couple of handles opposite one another.

Enjoy all summer!

Inspired By: Watermelons

It definitely feels like summer has arrived here in DC, and with it watermelon season! Which is good news for this pregnant lady. We may have just celebrated an entire day dedicated to the donut, but I’m pretty sure watermelons are getting ready to have their day in the sun – they were everywhere at the National Stationery Show! So with temperatures climbing ever higher, today I thought I’d round up a few of my favorite watermelon stationery items (and a few non-stationery items, too)!
