NYNOW Through the Eyes of Gus & Ruby Letterpress

Hi Everyone! I always look forward to the twice-a-year NYNOW trade show – but with my due date rapidly approaching I was sadly unable to attend the Summer 2014 NYNOW in August. Luckily, Samantha and Whitney from Gus & Ruby Letterpress – one of my favorite stationery stores in Portsmouth, New Hampshire – were planning to attend and agreed to share a few of their favorite finds from the show with us! Thanks so much ladies! –Nole

Hello Oh So Beautiful friends (see what we did there?), Sam & Whit here from Gus & Ruby Letterpress! A few weeks ago, we jetted off to NYC for a mad dash through the aisles of the NYNOW summer show in search of some rad new products for the shelves of our little shop. We walked the show for 2.5 days and found oodles of gorgeous new products that we can’t wait to share. We were writing orders like crazy and trying to visit as many new booths as we possibly could during our quick trip. Here are a few snaps of some standout booths:

Hand in Hand

This gorgeous skincare & fragrance line had us smitten with their hand-made paper-flower booth design – you know we’re suckers for some gorgeous paper blooms! The packaging of each product was just darling and the scents were divine. Even better, it’s a company with a cause: for each product sold, Hand in Hand saves 50 square feet of rainforest and donates one bar of soap and one month of clean water to a child in a developing country. Beautiful products, beautiful mission.

Yellow Owl Workshop

Yellow Owl Workshop always puts up a awesome booth and this show was no exception. We loved their new 3-color tiny ink pad sets and the holiday-themed carve-a-stamp kit.

Produce Candles

We’ve been carrying this fresh line of hand-poured soy candles for some time now and just can’t get enough. With new fall and winter scents on the way, it was a treat to sniff the next harvest. And it’s always so great to meet our beloved vendors in person.

Banquet Atelier & Workshop

Banquet Workshop goodies absolutely fly off the shelves at Gus & Ruby, so we were jazzed to see the new advent calendar, monthly calendar, and some lovely new pillows and greeting cards from this talented group.

The intricate embroidery of Coral & Tusk is too good to miss. Each print and pillow is a work of art.

Belle & Union

We were totally digging the new recipe card boxes from Belle & Union as well as their gift wrap and cheeky cards. And let’s give it up to B&U for a super clean, cohesive booth design, too!

Haptic Lab

We had been lusting after these hand-made kite ships for some time so we were eager to see the pieces in person. The booth design was absolutely magical and the kites proved to be as lovely and whimsical as we’d hoped.

Kelly’s Citrus-Inspired Bridal Shower Invitations

Today is such a special day: I get to share the invitations for my friend Kelly’s bridal shower! Kelly is both an old friend and one of my first contributors here at OSBP – but you might also know her from her own blog, Studio DIY. Kelly’s bridal shower invitations were the result of a collaboration between Isabel of 9th Letter Press and Kelly’s bridesmaid (and our mutual friend) Janice of Bellwether Events (who knows just a little thing or two about throwing a good party). The citrus-inspired invitation design is so much fun – and so Kelly!

From Isabel: Janice from Bellwether Events and I worked together to create a bridal shower invitation suite that’s fun, fresh and super bright. We went with citrus hues like key lime, grapefruit, and lemon. I LOVE all these pretty vibrant colors together! Kelly had no idea that 9th Letter Press was behind the invitations as Janice wanted to surprise her. I only wish I could have seen her face when Kelly opened the invitation!

Janice enclosed the invitations in a box with a citrus patterned liner, fun stamps and sugared tropical flavored candy. The suite included the invitation, an information sheet, RSVP card and envelope, bingo game set, menu, placemat, thank you cards, and all the fixings to make the box look fabulous.

From Kelly: I am such a huge fan of 9th Letter Press. I was floored when I got my shower invitation in the mail and realized Isabel was behind them! It was such a happy surprise! I told my bridesmaids that I love a good theme through and through, and Isabel’s design set the stage for quite the “Pucker Up” bash! I was getting calls and emails from family and friends gushing about every last detail… and I can’t blame them! It’s a total dream come true to have one of Isabel’s designs just for me!

Jamie’s Modern Hand Lettered Bat Mitzvah Invitations

I’m completely in love with these bat mitzvah invitations from J at Grey Snail Press! With a fuchsia and gray color palette, the letterpress printed invitations feature J’s signature hand lettering, modern design details, and non-traditional RSVP card. So fun and so modern – everything a bat mitzvah invitation should be!

From J: I worked with Jamie’s mom to create a bright and bold invitation for her daughter’s Bat Mitzvah ceremony and reception. Jamie requested a gray and fuchsia color palette, so we chose envelopes, papers, and ink colors accordingly.

The invitations were letterpress printed by Hounddog Press in fuchsia and light gray ink on bright white Lettra, then mounted on fuchsia backers. Fuchsia envelopes were lined with a gray and white chevron pattern.

RSVP cards were printed on fuchsia card stock in white ink with a simple J logo. They wanted a large blank area for guests to write messages rather than traditional RSVP options.

Waverley’s Ombre First Birthday Party Invitations

I’m a big fan of the whimsical illustration of Catherine from Printerette Press – particularly when it comes to birthday party invitations (Catherine created Sophie’s first birthday party invitations last year)! And today Catherine is back with another first birthday party invitation project! Waverley’s adorable invitations feature an ombre effect in tones of peach and pink along with a floral envelope liner. Love!

Peach-Pink-Ombre-Birthday-Party-Invitations-Printerette-Press

From Catherine: This is a custom project we recently worked up for an adorable little girl’s first birthday party. The inspiration given to us by her mom – Lesleigh from pearls on a string – was “peachy tones ombre” for the invitation and “soft grandma florals” for the envelope liner. We chose to stay in a peachy/pinkish color palette throughout, but added a touch of brown in the floral envelope liner to give it that “grandma” feel the client was looking for. The final touch was ordering magnets of Waverley herself to add an extra fun element to the overall invitation.
