Kris + Lowell’s St. Patrick’s Day Wedding Invitations

Is it really possible that I’ve been blogging for nearly 5 years without featuring some St. Patrick’s Day wedding invitations?!? Well, better late than never! J from Grey Snail Press sent over these beautiful invitations that she designed for a St. Patrick’s Day wedding. The design combines a stylized shamrock (a must!) with J’s whimsical hand lettering and watercolor accents. Beautiful!

From J: These wedding invitations were a nod to both the bride’s Irish heritage and the St. Patrick’s Day nuptials. A stylized shamrock illustration and hand lettering were letterpress printed in Kelly green by Hound Dog Press on Crane’s 110# Lettra in fluorescent white.

A Kelly green envelope was chosen with custom watercolor and ink shamrocks digitally printed on lightweight cerulean paper for liners. RSVP cards were printed digitally, along with two shamrock accents and complementing cerulean envelopes.

Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Colorfully Illustrated Menus

So I’ve talked a lot in the past about black and white day-of wedding stationery because, really, can you go wrong with that combination!? But today, prepare for a full on color-fest! An illustrated color-fest, to be exact. I’m a sucker for illustration, especially when it’s whimsical and colorful. While you may have already considered it for your wedding invitations, have you thought about added a little hand-drawn or watercolored detail to your wedding menus? You will after this!  — Kelly

Downton Abbey-Inspired Wedding Invitations

Another season of Downton Abbey has come and gone, and while I won’t get into the season finale I can definitely say that my favorite part of this season was Mary and Matthew’s wedding! And it appears that I’m not alone, since Erin from Lucky Luxe Couture Correspondence sent over this Downton Abbey-inspired invitation design! Called Lady Mary, the invitation features antique typefaces and flourishes inspired by the post-Edwardian period. Such a lovely combination!

From Erin: We took cues from Mary’s delicate dress, the warm grey color that permeates every scene in the sky, the silver, the clothes. We included ivy embellishments in the corners inspired by the gorgeous ornate veil piece Mary wears. The antique typefaces we used were created in the early 1920s and give the design post-Edwardian authenticity with polite English style.

Eco-Industrial Chalkboard + Linen Wedding Invitations

I’ve been drawn to some of the more industrial design trends for a while now, particularly when it comes to interior design, so I was thrilled when Jeannine from Blue Magpie sent over these industrial-inspired wedding invitations. Jeannine combined chalkboard effects with a lovely natural linen and floral accent elements. Pretty!

From Jeannine: I’m drawn to the strong, industrial look of chalkboard signage and really wanted to incorporate this into the paper suite. I thought the natural linen fabric was the perfect way of bringing in a natural “eco” feel.

I ended up applying a layer of linen to the back of the save the dates, making linen folders for the invitations, and even incorporated pieces of torn linen into the event pieces as well!

With so much focus on chalkboard and linen, I really wanted to balance this eco-industrial look with something very soft and pretty. I decided to bring in some very organic looking florals both on the save the dates and on the monogram, which was made into a stamp.

I applied layers of metallic purple and gold ink to create an ombre effect to stamp on the front of the linen folders that hold the wedding invitation pieces. Some more of the metallic gold was brought in with the invitation border and response envelopes.

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone – and yay for a long weekend! I hope you all had a nice Valentine’s Day. Sadly, my husband was on a late night shift this week, so there wasn’t much celebrating over here. Hopefully we’ll find some time to do something nice this weekend instead. We’ve had a few glimpses of spring here in DC this past week, which has me so so so excited for the real thing to arrive soon! Last year I was so overwhelmed with first trimester sickness that I was barely able to enjoy my favorite season, but this year I’m so excited to introduce Sophie to our favorite spring activities (like visiting Dumbarton Oaks and the National Arboretum). But in the meantime…
