Haley’s Romantic Floral + Lace Bridal Shower Invitations

These bridal shower invitations from Kara Anne Design combine three of my favorite things: beautiful calligraphy, kraft paper, and a colorful floral pattern. What could be better for a summer bridal shower in the South? I’m also loving the lace-inspired inner envelopes made from doilies. Such a sweet and feminine detail!

From Kara: For my life long friend, Haley, I wanted to create a beautiful and tasteful bridal shower invitation. The envelope liners are a custom watercolor painting that gave the invitation the perfect pop of color for a summer wedding.

The inner lace envelopes were hand made using paper doilies and silk ribbon that enclosed the invitation.

The invitation was printed on a bright white laid paper to add a little texture to the paper suite. For the final touch I used white calligraphy ink on kraft envelopes. The invitation set the tone for the party! For Haley’s special event, Lulu’s Cake Shop in Montgomery, Alabama created a delicious and beautiful cake that embodied exactly what I had in mind: lace and flowers!

We made a cake banner with kraft paper, little wooden sticks, and white calligraphy ink to match the invitation envelopes.

Melissa + Graham’s Whimsical Hand Painted Wedding Invitations

I’m always fascinated when artists apply their talents outside of their primary medium, so I was definitely intrigued when textile designer Melissa Kelman sent over her wedding invitations. Melissa was inspired by her love of pattern, florals, and color – all wonderful elements for wedding stationery! Melissa hand painted each design and created rubber stamps with her own calligraphy to use throughout the invitation suite. Gorgeous!

From Melissa: I have always had a passion for stationery design and as a professional textile designer I knew I had to create something special for our wedding invitations. The designs were inspired by my love of color, florals and pattern. I was also very inspired by our  venue – The Green Building – in Brooklyn. The building itself has a rustic, industrial feel so incorporating lots of color was a must. As a designer, it is rare that I have a chance to design for myself. My goal was to create something that felt joyful but elegant at the same time.  Each element was designed and painted by myself: it was definitely a labor of love!

The save the dates were each hand painted on kraft card stock. I designed a custom stamp using my calligraphy and stamped each one. I love that each one is a little bit different!

The wedding invitations were originally hand painted in gouache and watercolor. I scanned the artwork in and created the layout digitally. For our day-of elements, I hand carved some stamps and stamped each menu with colorful floral motifs. Our favors were small Muji notebooks, stamped with a hand carved pretzel stamp. The pretzel symbolized New York City and Philadelphia: the two cities we lived in together.

The “bride” and “groom” chair signs were hand painted using gouache on kraft paper. The seating chart was created using a large scrap piece of plexiglass. At an antique store I found a box of old boxing tickets and wrote names and table numbers on the backside. I then used washi tape to attach them to the plexiglass.

Thanks so much Melissa!

Madeleine + Ben’s Lobster Bake Post-Wedding Party Invitations

The wedding day goes by far too quickly, so I love the idea of a post-wedding party as a way for a much more relaxed bride and groom to spend additional time with friends and family. Diane from Faye & Co. created these invitations for a post-wedding lobster bake on Nantucket, complete with Diane’s signature hand lettering and illustrated nautical details. So fun!

From Diane: Madeleine and Ben wanted a Nantucket Island look to their post-wedding lobster bake party invitations, so through some fun illustration & lettering, we did just that! The tri-fold invitation was tied together with gray and white baker’s twine with a fun little tag reading “We’ve tied the knot, now let’s celebrate!” which surrounded a sailor’s knot. The navy and red color palette was a must for this lobsterfest, and really made the entire set pop.

After unfolding the invitation the guests would find a map of Nantucket Island marking the events of the weekend, the main invitation with a big old red lobster and the details, and a perforated rsvp postcard for easy tearing and sending.

On the reverse side was their return address, hand-lettered alongside of a lobster claw (made into a logo for use at the event), and custom-made return postage featuring the silhouette of Nantucket island.

Each invitation was delivered to guests with hand-addressing on the outer envelopes and beach-themed vintage postage. The flap of the envelope was sealed with a custom address label, which we also turned into a rubber stamp for Madeleine and Ben to use in the future.

Lindsay + Jay’s Whimsical Nature-Inspired Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! I thought we’d start the week off with these beautiful rustic wedding invitations from Becca at Suite Paperie. The design combines whimsical fonts, a custom illustrated map, kraft paper, and beautiful letterpress printing for a nature-inspired rustic invitation suite. So subtle and elegant!

From Becca: When Lindsay and Jay came into the studio, I knew this was going to be one of my favorite suites of the season. They were so excited about their invitations and wanted to put a major emphasis on the textures of the papers, the printing methods, and the handmade feel of the design.

Since this is a weekend getaway for most guests, we created a custom drawn map of the area, complete with places to eat, local attractions, bike rentals and more! The couple, who got engaged in a lavender field in Provence (swoon!) wanted to carry the airy, outdoor, French feel throughout their suite and straight on to their wedding day.

We chose to letterpress print the invitation on Crane’s Lettra, while we digitally printed their RSVP card on recycled kraft and their custom drawn map on cream felt stock. Their subtle-patterned gray and white liner was the perfect match to the eco-friendly envelope and cotton twine.

Lindsay and Jay will be married under the tree that is seen throughout the suite, which the bride’s brother helped illustrate…rustic elegance at its finest!
