Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Coasters

Let’s talk about wedding coasters, shall we? Often forgotten but always necessary, it’s fun to take your paper goods style all the way down to the drinks. While the gold foil variety truly owns my heart, I’ve rounded up a few favorites to show all that can be done on this little piece of stationery for your big day. And all of these make great little wedding keepsakes too, so be sure to keep a few leftovers post-wedding! —Kelly

Marissa + Mike’s Whimsical Silhouette Wedding Invitations

Leslie from Lilly & Louise sent over these adorable whimsical wedding invitations that she created for a recent wedding, complete with playful wording and sweet silhouettes of the couple. I’m loving the beachy Santa Barbara-inspired color palette of soft pink and blue with kraft paper accents. Such a fun invitation suite!

From Leslie: Marissa and Mike wanted their wedding invitation to knock their guests’ socks off when they opened their mailbox. They planned a Santa Barbara wedding full of personal touches and wanted their invitation to the set the stage. With a mix of fun typefaces and a subtle color palette inspired by the wedding venue, we created an accordion folding booklet wedding invitation with wording sure to cause a chuckle, a postcard RSVP, and a belly band with silhouettes of the bride and groom with their endearing nicknames.

We incorporated the typefaces used on the invitation into the the guests’ addresses that we typeset and printed onto each envelope. The suite reflected Marissa and Mike’s fun-loving personalities perfectly and gave guests a taste of the exciting celebration they were planning.

Sarah + Jordan’s Illustrated Show Bill Wedding Invitations

Kentucky-based graphic designer Austin Dunbar is more used to designing concert posters for Chromeo, Toro Y Moi, Cold War Kids, Xiu Xiu, and Tokyo Police Club than wedding invitations, but he was definitely up for the challenge! For Sarah and Jordan’s wedding invitations, Austin incorporated hand drawn illustrations that showcased their personalities and unique style. Too cute!

From Austin: Sarah and Jordan asked me to design the invitations for their upcoming wedding. They wanted something unique that showcased their personalities. Both are lots of fun and have quirky things that are staples to each of them. Jordan sports a 5 o’clock shadow and always wears a newsboy cap while Sarah has tattoos of ropes and swallows. I thought this imagery would be fun to illustrate and would reflect their lifestyle.

Watercolors, markers, kraft paper and hand drawn illustrations gave the piece a unique, light hearted feel. Having designed gig-posters for years, I wanted to invitation to look more like a show bill than a typical invitation.

Alexis + Joseph’s Modern Hearts and Arrows Wedding Invitations

These days I’m drawn to bright and bold color in just about any form, and I’m loving the color palette in these modern wedding invitations from designer Renee Nicole! Mint green mixed with red, pink, and orange; who knew it was such a great combination? Renee paired the bright colors with heart and arrow details for a fresh and modern invitation design. Love!

From Renee: Hearts, arrows, and fresh typography: my three favorite elements of inspiration. When I first started brainstorming, I knew I wanted to create something fresh and modern. Something that I would be excited to have show up in my own mailbox. The end result: a colorful invitation set designed especially for the fun-loving couple planning a stylish (and unforgettable!) celebration.

Paper Party 2013: The Invitations!

After sharing the photos from Paper Party 2013 the other week, I’m so excited to finally share the invitations for the party! I was lucky to work with a really amazing team this year, including Linda & Harriett, Smock, Mohawk, and Meant to Be Calligraphy – it was definitely a group effort from start to finish! The invitations involve pops of bright neon pink, hand lettering, and a fun pattern. I couldn’t love them more!

I was beyond thrilled to work with Liz from Linda & Harriett on the invitation design; I’ve been dying for an excuse to work with her for years! Liz no longer offers custom design services, but you can her beautiful designs on Minted and Paperless Post. I gave Liz our general inspiration – lots of bright color and geometric shapes – and just trusted Liz to do the rest. I love the resulting design, which features her gorgeous hand lettering and a background pattern of illustrated envelopes. Liz also used her hand lettering to create the envelope return address.

The invitations were letterpress printed by Smock on Mohawk Loop Smooth 160 lb White paper in two colors: a light pink for the background and a bright fluorescent pink for the main text (Pantone 812 for those of you interested in such things). I love the texture of the neon pink printed over the light pink envelope pattern background!

The envelopes were printed on Mohawk Via Smooth A7 envelopes in Light Gray, and we used the same neon pink for the return addresses. I love the way the neon pink pops against the light gray envelopes, but oh boy are neon colors hard to photograph!

The talented Michele of Meant to Be Calligraphy addressed the envelopes in her Edwards style in charcoal gray ink. We mailed approximately one hundred invitations before the show, then distributed the rest in person at the Stationery Show.
