Catherine + Adam’s Rustic Chipboard and Lace Save the Dates

Sometimes the most beautiful designs are also the most simple.  Allie from Allie Ruth Design created these save the dates using two very simple materials: chipboard postcards and rubber stamps!  Allie started with her unique hand lettering before adding doily rubber stamps in contrasting white ink.  So pretty!

From Allie: Catherine wanted something rustic with lace details for her save the dates, so I immediately thought chipboard postcards would be perfect.  I hand lettered all of the text, using custom rubber stamps to print the text on the chipboard.  The doily imagery is from a set of Japanese rubber stamps that I found on Etsy.  We added vintage stamps at the end, et voila!

Thanks Allie!

Jillian + Tim’s Eclectic Vintage Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  The first day back from a long holiday weekend can be a bit rough, but I’m hoping to help you ease back into the week with a couple of gorgeous wedding invitation suites.  First up today, these lovely vintage-inspired invitations from Allie Ruth Design.  While the main invitation is a classic and reserved black and white design, Allie incorporated color and fun materials with the envelopes, liners, and belly band, all complete with beautiful vintage postage stamps.

From Allie:  I love that the colors in this invitation suite look like they could have been pulled straight out of the ’40s.  The mustard yellow envelopes were the starting point for the entire design, around which we built a color palette of turquoise, kraft, cream, and light green.

My absolute favorite part is the envelope liners.  They are made from authentic 1930s wallpaper, that was printed using a technique called “surface painting” that gives the paper a hand-painted look.  I am absolutely in love with this paper and will certainly look forward to using vintage wallpaper in more of my custom designs.  The belly bands are kraft with vintage lace sewn on.

So pretty!  Thanks Allie!

Allie’s Vintage-Inspired Kentucky Derby Party Invitations

I admit that I’ve never actually watched the Kentucky Derby (or any other horse race), but I’ve always thought it would be fun to throw a theme party inspired by the derby.  All the ladies wear big hats, all the gentlemen wear seersucker suits, with lawn games and plenty of mint juleps to go around.  Sounds fabulous!  Well, Allie from Allie Ruth Design and her husband Ryan really did throw a derby party this year, and today we get a peek at the beautiful invitations she created for the party!

From Allie:  As soon as Ryan and I decided to have a Derby party, I knew I had to come up with something cute and vintage-inspired to invite our guests.  Believe it or not, this was actually the first time I had ever letterpress printed anything for my own party!  This was also my first time ever using a real vintage letterpress block.  I have always used photopolymer plates, but this time, I knew that the only way I could achieve the true vintage aesthetic that I was hoping for, I would have to find the perfect vintage block – and I did!  I love, love, love this race horse block, and we will be able to use it for years to come!

I had some Crane Lettra left over from an order, and it was the perfect color and weight for this job.  So velvety and rich!  I used a 1920s newspaper page as backing for the kraft paper labels, and wrote addresses with a white paint pen.  The tags had all of the details about directions, etc. and were finished with red and white baker’s twine that I had left over from a custom order.

Marissa + Tom’s Aqua Blue Faux Bois Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone!  I’m starting off the week with a playful set of wedding invitations from Allie Ruth Design that combines aqua and faux bois!  Together with yellow stitching and a selection of cute vintage stamps, the invitation suite has a sweet and quirky vibe perfect for an incredibly sweet couple.

From Allie:  I made these invitations for my friends, Tom and Marissa.  I am so honored that I had the opportunity to custom-design wedding invitations for this couple.  They are so much fun and a really sweet people.  They came to me with a loose vision of what they wanted – a vintage-inspired design with faux bois on aqua paper, stitched details, and real lace belly bands.  The rest was up to me!

I decided to go for a “formal and quirky” feel with these, bringing in the glassine envelopes, ribbon banner labels, and bright yellow thread.  I think the vintage stamps are my favorite part – the colors go so well with the rest of suite!
