Emmy’s Oktoberfest 30th Birthday Party Invitations

Lindsay fromÂ McMillian + FurlowÂ always has the most creative invitation ideas! Like these fly fishing 70th birthday invitations for her dad and these amazing Memorial Day summer kick-off party invitations. Today she’s sharing the Oktoberfest-inspired invitations that she created for her sister-in-law’s 30th birthday party. I have a feeling my beer-loving husband would very much approve of these invitations!

From Lindsay:Â I recently designedÂ these 5″ x 7″ postcard invitations for my sister-in-law’s Oktoberfest inspired 30th birthday. We developed the idea of naming the party “Emtoberfest” as a combination of both her name (Emmy) and Oktoberfest. The party will be held at a local German beer hall here in NYC, and typical Oktoberfest attire is strongly encouraged!

We sent the invitations out in an orange envelope which complimented the postcard design beautifully. For budget reasons, these invitations were printed digitally.

Galina + Lee’s Timeless Typography-Inspired Wedding Invitations

When it came time to design the invitations for her own wedding, Australia-based designer Galina DixonÂ drew inspiration from one of her passions â€“ typography! Galina created a classic design based on interlocking typography flourishes. The suite was letterpress printed in raspberry red ink and paired with recycled paper envelopes and rustic twine. Lovely!

From Galina:Â Being a passionate typographer, the pressure was on to create uniquely elegant invitations when it came time for my own wedding. Our wedding had a white and raspberry colour theme matched with raw recycled paper texture and twine throughout. IÂ designed invitations thatÂ focused on the beautifully interlinking typography of our names, while paring back all other information. Oh, and I had them letterpress printed of course!

Lindsy + Eric’s Hot Pink and Navy Floral Wedding Invitations

For her cousin’s wedding this past may, designer Kate HolgateÂ was inspired by the garden reception location to create these beautiful floral wedding invitations! The design features classic navy and white for the main invitation, with vibrant watercolor flowers throughout the suite. Absolutely gorgeous!

From Kate:Â Lindsy is my cousin and I was thrilled when she got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Eric. They are an amazing couple. Lindsy and Eric were married in May at a formal Catholic church in Connecticut. The ceremony was followed by a gorgeous reception in a garden. When designing their invitations, I wanted to capture the beauty of springtime flowers….floral watercolors punctuated every piece.

Paired with navy, sophisticated type and textured felt paper, the suite was elegant and classy. Eric plays hockey so we even subtly incorporated some symbolism in their monogram. Their wedding could not have been a more perfect occasion. They are now expecting their first baby in February, so more happy occasions are ahead!

Sophie’s First Birthday Party!

As you know, we celebrated Sophie’s first birthday last month! We threw a little birthday party for her, with family and a few close friends. Given the roller coaster of the last few months, it was so nice to spend a beautiful afternoon with some of our favorite people to celebrate making it through the first year!

First, the invitations! Sophie is completely fascinated with balloons, so we knew that we wanted to bring them into her birthday party. I told Catherine from Printerette Press that we wanted something joyful and colorful and she dreamed up this amazing five-color design with her unique hand lettering for the text. My dear friend Michele of Meant to Be Calligraphy addressed the envelopes in neon pink ink in her Jackson script. I love the invitations SO much!

We chose one of our favorite hidden spots in DC, Montrose Park in Georgetown, as the venue for Sophie’s party. It has lots of picnic tables and a big playground with swings, all of which was perfect for our needs. Sophie’s cousins came down from upstate New York for the party and had such a great time running around the playground, while the adults could chill out under the trees.

We wanted the party decorations to be really bright and colorful, with lots of balloons, honeycombs, and garlands. My friend Kelly sent over some of her balloon honeycombs, which went perfectly with our balloon inspiration. I also made a bunch of tassels out hot pink, peach, and gold yarn, and spray painted a birthday banner in shades of hot pink, coral, and lavender.

We served a mix of sandwiches from one of our favorites, Taylor Gourmet, along with cupcakes from The Sweet Lobby. My Dad took a few photos of Sophie enjoying her birthday cupcake! I chose red velvet for her, which she loved.
