Happy Weekend + August Break!

Happy Friday everyone! Summer is starting to wind down and, between the Congressional recess and absence of a billion college kids, DC is feeling sooooo quiet these days – which I love! Next week, we’ll be taking our own little recess in the form of our annual August break to recharge and enjoy these last few days of summer. We’ll be back with new posts on Tuesday, September 2 after the Labor Day weekend! But in the meantime…

Lauren + Jeff’s Lace and Kraft Paper Wedding Invitations

White foil and kraft paper is one of my all time favorite combinations – so classic! Megan from Ruby the Fox dressed up these rustic wedding invitations with beautiful lace details, blush pink letterpress (in addition to the white foil on kraft!), ribbon, and a custom wax seal. So romantic!

From Megan: When Lauren, a friend from college, told me that she was getting married and wanted Ruby the Fox to do her wedding stationery, let’s just say I was a little bit excited! After talking about the vibe for her wedding weekend, there is only one word to sum it up: rustic.

We played with a soft and super feminine palette of blush, white, and kraft, and used lots of lace elements throughout. The wedding invitation suite was foil and letterpress printed on a number of different paper stocks, and we pulled in ribbon, twine, and a custom wax seal to tie it all together!

Jenny + Miyuki’s Mountain Constellation Wedding Invitations

Today we move from the French countryside to the mountains of California! These wedding invitations from Jessie and Jen of Shipwright & Co. were created for a wedding just outside of Joshua Tree National Park and feature one of my favorite details: constellations! The invitations also feature tons of hand lettering, illustrated details, and a vivid teal and coral color palette. So pretty!

From Jessie and Jen: This wedding suite features a desert night sky with the couple’s astrological sign constellations (Virgo and Pisces) prominently glowing above the boulders at their actual wedding venue. The invitation, RSVP, and map are inspired by their wedding location just outside of Joshua Tree National Park. Most of the text is hand lettered except the text in teal on the invitation, which is a font I made from my handwriting.

Each piece of the suite was custom designed to reflect the couple’s style, romance, and humor. They wanted to kindly ask their friends and family with children to leave their little ones behind, hence the kid wrapped in a snake. The text on the RSVP read, “We love your kids but so does the desert wildlife. Please leave them at home.” The invitation and RSVP are letterpress printed in vivid teal, coral-rose, and warm gray. The map is conventionally printed in full color on matching pearl white paper.

Margaux + Fuad’s Rustic French Wedding Invitations

Sigh… a wedding in the French countryside? Yes please! Melissa from Atheneum Creative sent over the beautiful bilingual invitations that she created for this rustic French wedding. Melissa rose to the bilingual challenge by incorporating different printing methods within the nature-inspired color palette. Such a gorgeous invitation suite!

From Melissa: Margaux and Fuad’s wedding took place in France earlier this summer. The gorgeous wedding location featured lush surroundings combined with rustic history. Located on the grounds is a very unique pigeon house that was just begging to be used as a design element for the wedding… which gave us our wedding logo. It’s always so much fun to start the wedding process with a logo or monogram that really has a story and gives the guest a little glimpse of what’s to come.

Our challenge was to incorporate both French and English languages as the invitations were mailed in France and the US. We decided to duplex all the cards and switch the colors – with green letterpress printing on white paper on one side and white foil printing on green paper on the other side. This gave us the look we wanted on either side of the invitation.

The color palette spoke more to the wedding venue with small touches – like the kraft paper reply envelope – that added just enough of the rustic interior to balance the invitation suite.

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! And holy moly – how is it mid-August already?!?! I’m less than two months away from my late September due date with this baby, and time seems to be flying by faster and faster each day. I hope to have a couple of baby update posts for you all next week – even though this is our second child, and therefore seems way less overwhelming than the first time around, I could use your advice on a few things! But in the meantime…
