{happy weekend!}

As much as I grumble about housing prices and other various DC-related headaches, this week reminded me of how much I really do love my city. We took Sophie to the Natural History Museum for the first time, mostly on a whim and only about an hour before it closed, but the museum was practically empty and it was so perfect. We enjoyed the live butterfly pavilion, but she really loved the gemstone exhibit â€“ and who can blame her? Sparkly things in bright colors? Perfect for babies! Our afternoon at the museum made me even more excited for spring and summer, when we can do more outdoor things with Sophie. But in the meantime…

NYIGF Winter 2013, Part 6

Today we’re jumping back into recaps from the NYIGF Winter 2013 market with two more posts full of fun eye candy! There’s an entire section dedicated to products for babies and children, from toys to clothing, and this year I took the time to properly browse and pick out a few favorites. I was thrilled when I spotted the 3 Sprouts booth â€“ we already love their adorable bath towels (we have the walrus), and admire that they incorporate unusual animals like hippos and goats into their designs.

Finally, adorable storage boxes that fit PERFECTLY in the Ikea Expedit! I absolutely love the animal options â€“ the dragon and unicorn are too cute!

I’ve been a fan of Wee Gallery since even before Sophie came along â€“ we love their stamp sets, temporary tattoos, graphic black + white animal flash cards, I could go on and on!

I can’t wait until Sophie is old enough to play with some of the more educational toys, and these wooden block sets from Uncle Goose are at the top of my list. I absolutely love their language sets, which come in a staggering eighteen languages (!!), and the political nerd in me is completely crazy for the presidential block set.

Petit Collage makes some of the most well-designed baby toys and decorations, from prints and decals to mobiles and puzzles. The beginner puzzle sets are so incredibly cute â€“ the baby animal is always the key piece!

I’m always on the lookout for baby and shower gifts that are both pretty and useful â€“ and the knit toys and baby books from loralin design absolutely fit the bill. The books in particular are so great, from a baby gift record keeper and nursing journal to a baby visitor guestbook!

Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Emerald

I probably don’t have to tell you that Pantone has selected emerald as the official color of 2013! I was jumping for joy when I heard this, and I hope you were too, especially if you are engaged! Emerald is such a unique choice for a wedding color and it can lend itself to many a style. Pair it with gold and jewel tones for a moody look or black and white for a modern feel, and that’s only just the beginning. “You’ve Got Mail” School-Inspired Paper Goods

I’m a firm believer that you can find inspiration in just about anything, even a romantic comedy from the 1990s. Ha! Adrienne from The Paper SuiteÂ loves the movie “You’ve Got Mail” and was inspired to create these school chalkboard paper goodies. Adrienne used them for a bridal shower photo shoot, but I could easily see these working for a baby shower or birthday party!

From Adrienne: One of my favorite movies is â€œYouâ€™ve Got Mail.â€ I donâ€™t know exactly why I love it so much, but it gives me the warm fuzzies every time I watch it. My very first email account was an AOL account way back in the late ’90s and there is no doubt that those three words â€œYouâ€™ve Got Mailâ€ always made me giddy with delight!

The movie â€œYouâ€™ve Got Mailâ€ begins in the fall in New York City.Â One of the best lines in the movie is when Tom Hanks writes to Meg Ryan and tells her that if he knew where she were, he would send her a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils. While not quite as exquisite as a bouquet of fresh flowers there is something sweet and whimsical about the whole idea.Â So sweet and whimsical that it inspired me put together this school room influenced styled shoot complete with freshly sharpened bouquets of pencils!
