Romantic Gold Foil Wedding Invitations

Gold foil is everywhere these days, but let’s face it: metallics are timeless. I’m always happy to see a beautiful gold wedding invitation suite, regardless of the printing method, or envelopes calligraphed in sparkly gold ink. (And while gold and other metallic foils may be all the rage these days, foil stamping is a printing method that dates back to the 1930s and earlier!) These romantic gold foil wedding invitations from Laura of Paper & Honey definitely fall on the classic end of the metallic spectrum, with gorgeous calligraphy woven throughout the invitation suite and an overall neutral color palette that includes white address calligraphy on gray envelopes. Just a beautiful combination.

From Laura: Gretchen, along with her fiancé Stephen, had dreams of their wedding reflecting togetherness, family, and love. Their number one priority was a stunning custom invitation suite to kick it all off! Held in Hartland, Michigan, the wedding itself was equal parts classic and a tiny bit vintage. While Gretchen is an event planner, it took a little bit of time to transition from the aesthetic she had originally envisioned — bold vintage graphics, heavy and differentiating typography, an autumn color palette — to her elegant and elevated final suite. The evolution was night and day, and her suite is delicate and just the right amount of whimsical.

Calligraphy, a hand illustrated map, and gold foil stamping is a recipe after my own heart. As the design itself is fairly sweet and simple, we brought in texture through the use of felt paper and a gold brush liner to imitate the tablecloths spread out at the reception. Gretchen and Stephen wanted their wedding day to be warm and welcoming, so we kept the calligraphy fun and modern rather than sticking to more traditional Copperplate styles.

Gold foil stamping can be pretty trendy nowadays as far as stationery goes, but a neutral color palette keeps the suite romantic and timeless. For her soft grey envelopes accented by delicate white calligraphy, Gretchen worked one on one with Flowers by LJP to curate Michigan-themed vintage stamps. The perfect finishing touch!

The map card might be my favorite aspect to the suite. Gretchen and Stephen married at the historic Hartland Music Hall and held their reception at Waldenwoods, and both were a joy to illustrate! This area of Michigan is beautiful, with lots of rolling countryside and spring-fed lakes. Waldenwoods claims to have a fairy-tale setting — I hope this suite did them justice!

Modern Watercolor Gem Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! And apologies for the unexpected radio silence over the last few days. I got the flu! And not the kind of flu that you can muddle your way through, but the kind of flu that just totally knocks you out for three days straight. But now I’m (thankfully) feeling much, much better. Can I make it up to you with some gorgeous wedding invitations? I love absolutely every detail in these modern watercolor gem wedding invitations from Meghan of And Here We Are. The colors! The whimsical gemstone shapes! The brushstroke envelope liners!

From Meghan: Last year we moved our studio (and ourselves) from Brooklyn, New York to Columbus, Ohio. A few days before we loaded up our covered wagon and headed west, we were invited to participate in one last inspirational wedding shoot as local Brooklyners. The shoot took place at one of our favorite local haunts, Glasserie, and was inspired by our old neighborhood, Greenpoint. Think: artisinal cocktails, geodes, fur, raw wood and unpolished bronze. We were asked to provide an invitation suite, menus, and some other paper goods.

We were especially inspired by bright, rich jewel tones, and shapes. I used my biggest brush pen — absolutely loaded with ink — to create bold, modern script lettering and patterns, and then brought it into the computer to combine it with a custom watercolor-filled gem artwork and clean typography. Each piece was digitally printed and then cut down into gem shapes. Pairing these pieces with an assortment of gem toned envelopes lined with an inky brush pattern gave it one more burst of color.

We extended these visuals to create vertical gem-shaped menus, square favor tags, and round coasters.

How are you planning to incorporate color into your wedding?

Romantic Botanical Winter Wedding Invitations

Ooooh, I am LOVING the dove gray and oxblood color combination in these romantic botanical winter wedding invitations from Britt of Swell Press Paper Co.! Gray and white is absolutely classic for late fall and winter wedding invitations, but the addition of moody oxblood is just so perfect. Britt incorporated floral illustrations inspired by vintage botany books throughout the invitation suite (complete with the Latin plant names!), along with oxblood edge painting and kraft paper envelopes with a wax seal – not to mention beautiful envelope calligraphy by Olive Branch & Co. So pretty!

From Britt: When Laura and John came to me to design and print their wedding invitation suite, they knew they wanted something traditional and romantic, with a subtle hint of winter for their late November wedding in Baltimore. Laura’s Pinterest board was filled with pages from vintage botany books, so I took it from there, incorporating vintage floral and botanical elements throughout the suite.

The back of the RSVP card is a throwback to the old botany indexes, with the Latin names for the plants listed under the figure key. Another floral element was printed on the back of the invitation to tie it all together.

The invitation suite was printed on 220lb Crane’s Pearl White Lettra with medium grey ink, with oxblood edge painting and custom-sourced oxblood linen paper for the details card to give a pop of autumnal color.

We then tied everything together in a natural kraft inner envelope, topped off with a custom wax seal made from one of the floral elements.
