Quirky Camp-Theme Wedding Invitations

Well, these invitations are a lot of fun! Primary colors, pennants, buttons, and more in these quirky camp-theme wedding invitations from designer Misty Manley! Misty created these invitations for her own wedding last September – we love how all the sweet details, like tacos and camping, ties into her own love story!

From Misty: Johnny and I have spent the last 9 years laughing at each other’s stupid jokes, eating too much, and taking nothing seriously… so when we got engaged, we knew immediately we didn’t want a buttoned-up “wedding,” we just wanted to kick back and party with our best friends and eat good food.

Camp Wyman was the first venue we looked at, and we knew immediately it was the one. The camp vibes were just too good; log cabins, a beautiful ceremony site accessible only by a path leading into the woods, logs for seating, and they let us personalize our whole event how we saw fit! We’re taco obsessed (we got engaged at our favorite taco joint, Mission Taco) and had their food truck and one other taco truck serve at the wedding, we brought in our own booze and let people BYOB, it was a family tradition to take our son to a different donut shop in STL every weekend, so we had donuts for dessert from our favorite place and one of our favorite personal touches, we had a unity PB&J during our ceremony.

As a graphic designer, I got so excited to take the camp theme and run with it! The details were so fun: a Wes Anderson inspired color palette, save the dates with button pins, and a two-sided foldout poster with a map for the invitation. The invitation included a timeline of our relationship that served as a border, silly badges and inside jokes. I used custom rubber stamps for the rsvp card and envelopes.

I made the wedding programs pennants that everyone waved in the air as we passed! More flags were screen printed and stuck inside vintage thermoses or our centerpieces. I poured my heart into every detail! I hand painted signs, and used the 18 months of our engagement collecting vintage goblets, the thermoses, as well as used a lot of my own vintage collectibles as decor.

Blush and Gray Desert Wedding Invitations

Are you ready for some seriously dreamy wedding invitations? Alex of Goodheart Design combined a soft color palette, whimsical hand lettering, and sweet floral illustrations to create these blush and gray desert wedding invitations. You’ll definitely want to check out the ombré lettering on the save the date below. Absolute perfection!

Blush and Gray Desert Wedding Invitations by Goodheart Design

From Alex: Nicole and Justin got married in Ojai, California at the best time of year. The venue was open, airy and bright with a hint of desert vibes mixed in. We wanted to reflect that in the save the date and wedding invitation suite with soft colors, foliage, and classic calligraphy.

Blush and Gray Desert Wedding Invitations by Goodheart Design

We started with the save the date and made it a little more fun and outgoing. The save the date itself was a unique 4 x 9 inch size with ombré letterpress printing done by Czar Press, moving from blush to light grey. That piece was also accompanied by a fun photo booth reel with pictures of the two of them. I love when photos are included in a save the date in a unique way!

Blush and Gray Desert Wedding Invitations by Goodheart Design

As we moved to the invitation suite we wanted to keep the style, colors and look the same as the save the date but a little more classy and elegant. We started with creating a crest for the couple with their first name initials. That crest was used for the return address on the envelopes as well as other wedding ‘day of’ items.

The crest then inspired the blind letterpress printed vines on the main and rsvp pieces. By having them blind letterpress printed into the page, we were able to add a little bit of the desert Ojai vibe while still keeping it light and airy. The blind letterpress makes them more of a texture rather than a heavy focus. In order to make the details piece stand out a little bit, since it had lot of important information on it, it was printed on blush paper. One side had a fun map of Ojai on it and the other had a link to their wedding website. While the suite had different colored papers from the main piece to the details to the envelopes, it all flowed together in such a beautiful way.

Does that happen to you? Where you’re just going, going, going for weeks and then it all just catches up with you all at once? Yeah, that’s where I am now. Time to take it easy for a few days! Romantic Wildflower Inspired Wedding Invitations

We love it when wedding invitation designers draw heavily upon the wedding venue for design inspiration! Michelle of Honey Paper (a member of our Designer Rolodex, naturally) designed these romantic wildflower inspired wedding invitations with the lush wildflower varieties of California’s Santa Ynez Valley in mind. From crisp honeysuckle to bristly blue fiesta flowers and pale leopard lilies, the delicate foliage in this suite is spot on – and so pretty paired with equally delicate text in pale green script!

From Michelle: Nicholas proposed to Katherine under the open skies of California’s Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County as the heads of lupines and poppies unfurled like antique quilts shaken out and smoothed. As native Coloradans, the couple felt a connection to this peaceful land between the mountains and wanted to share the gentle, pastoral countryside and local culture with their loved ones on their wedding day.

The venue, florals, stationery details, and seasonal menu all drew inspiration from the generous, natural beauty of the region and the couple’s shared interest in sustainable food and love of the outdoors. I created original watercolor illustrations for the stationery and dinner menu inspired by the wildflowers of the region. An oval wreath of native ferns, chaparral nightshade, lilies and blue fiesta flower with its bristly foliage encircled the text of the invitation. An elegant script in green, the color of weathered copper, suggests the wandering stems of California honeysuckle.

The deckled edges of the invitation and response card highlight the artistry of the mould-made paper by Fabriano, a distinguished Italian paper company wholly dedicated to renewable energy and sustainable business practices.

Bright white envelopes with old-world flaps were lined with my original watercolor illustration of the pale leopard lily, an abundant native plant often found alongside hedge nettles and stream orchid. Long, billowy stems with silky petals gracefully reach toward the first hints of the morning sun. Fess Parker Wine Country Inn and The Bear and Star were a perfect venue pair. Nestled among meadow, hill and stream, The Bear and Star restaurant boasts a closed-circuit ecosystem, meaning its menu is entirely crafted from the harvest yielded by Fess Parker Home Ranch. While quail, pig and cattle roam pasture, heirloom vegetables and fruit cling to vine and branch like baubles and gemstone.

As favors, guests took home some of the garden spoils in packets filled with heirloom seeds from the year’s previous yield which read, “Let Love Grow,” with a running border of leopard lilies. The Bear and Star’s Chef John Cox prepared a family style dinner which started with a farm fresh hors d’oeuvres bar and the local Pinot Noir, Riesling and Syrah. Guests gathered at long tables on the veranda under a gentle sky and helped themselves to scoops of heirloom beans, quail egg and spring radish.

Envelopes were addressed using a romantic script the unmistakable green of spring’s first sweet pea shoots and paired with monochromatic vintage stamps. What an absolute delight to be part of this beautiful wedding day that was both a celebration of love and an homage to the riches of the earth.
