Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Silhouettes

There is something so timeless about silhouettes, isn’t there? If you want personalization but aren’t looking to monogram everything at your wedding with your new initials, silhouettes make the perfect alternative. They can be used discreetly on your menus or place cards, or they can boldly take center stage on wedding signage, or even atop your cake. They look particularly striking in their classic black and white state, but you can also have a little fun and use them as your pop of color too! â€” Kelly

Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Die-Cutting

I’m making you think outside of the box, quite literally, today! You can easily add an extra layer of interest and dimension to your day-of wedding stationery with unique die cut shapes. Die cutting can be used to create a geometric statement with your place cards or to add an intricate border to your menu cards. The process can also be used to cut out a shape within your paper goods, making a perfectly refreshing wedding monogram, for example. I’m positive this technique can be applied to just about any wedding style or theme, be it a rustic fall soiree (think leaves and natural motifs) or a modern loft affair (read: crisp lines and bold silhouettes)! â€” Kelly

Jessica + Nick’s Letterpress Map Wedding Invitations

I love travel-inspired wedding invitation designs, from maps to postcards to vintage stamps and everything in between. Â So naturally I adore this letterpress wedding invitationÂ fromÂ Laura MacchiaÂ andÂ May Day StudioÂ inspired by the city where the bride and groom first met. Â Laura incorporated a lovely and simple map detail on the main invitation, with a fun rsvp card inspired by vintage postage stamps. Â So sweet!

From Laura:Â Jessica and Nick live in New York City, but will be getting married in Milwaukee, where they first met. Â Their inspiration was centered around vintage maps and stamps with an aubergine and taupe color palette. Â Since it will be a destination wedding for most guests, I wanted to incorporate a map specific to the wedding location in the invitation design.

I love how Lake Michigan becomes a flood of color that in turn creates the silhouette of Wisconsin. Â The propeller plane and globe stamps on the reply card further push the vintage-travel feel, creating a suite that is both personal and fun but still elegant and classic.

Anna + Mark’s Preppy Yellow and Green Wedding Invitations

Becca from Lavender’s BlueÂ sent over these colorful and preppy wedding invitations that she created for an upcoming summer wedding in Texas. Â Becca drew her inspiration from the bride’s color palette and wedding flowers, with a few Texas icons thrown in for good measure. Â I’m loving the striped envelope liners and bold belly band!

From Becca:Â Anna wanted something simple, elegant, and summery â€“ with just a “hint of Texan” â€“ and sunshine yellow and lush green for the colors. Â She also had an idea of what flowers she wanted for the wedding, so I worked off of those images to create some summery florals to adorn the invitations.

I created a logo using their initials to include in the invitation, which we ended up using in several elements of the suite, including the address labels, the belly band, and also as a sticker for the envelope flap. Â For envelope liners, we went with a striped yellow lining to add elegance and playfulness to the entire suite.

For Anna’s “hint of Texan,” I incorporated a small silhouette of the state of Texas on the main invitation, then used sheriff’s stars for the RSVP card, and a cowboy boot for the post-wedding brunch invitation.

Nancy + Guy’s Modern Navy and White Wedding Invitations

It’s so fun to see designers expand their horizons with each new project. Â Virginia and Mishayla of Plane PaperÂ specialize in laser-cut greeting cards and stationery, but recently took on a custom wedding invitation design project. Â They created a modern chevron-inspired design for both the invitation and laser-cut envelope, partnering with their studiomate Repeat PressÂ to letterpress print the invitation suite.

From Virginia andÂ Mishayla:Â Nancy and Guy wanted a wedding suite that would remain timeless, yet have a modern edge. Â We combined a bold, graphic chevron pattern with a serif font and traditional wording â€“ all in classic navy blue.

We designed a laser-cut envelope, our signature element, again incorporating the chevron pattern. Â The envelope was tied with a letterpress tag with the reception location and wedding website. Â Yellow baker’s twine added a pop of summer color and sense of playfulness to the suite.Â

We also designed ‘day-of’ elements, specifically flags wrapped around yellow and white paper straws. Â Both the flag and tag used the ‘v’ of the chevron to allude to their respective, familiar silhouettes.
