Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Evergreen

I’m starting to feel like I’ll blink and Christmas will be here! So with that holiday spirit in mind, I was feeling a little evergreen wedding inspiration today. I love the use of actual evergreen sprigs (that lovely fresh scent is just a bonus!) in escort cards, the idea of gifting a sapling with a sweet thank you tag as a favor, or just incorporating that rich color, or tree motif, into menus, table numbers and more for a wintertime wedding! Here are a few lovely snippets of all of those and more to get you thinking (ever)green for your holiday wedding! —Kelly

Julie + Bo’s Hand Painted Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! We’re starting the week with some beautiful wedding invitations from Meghan of And Here We Are! Inspired by the bride’s love of all things ombré, Meghan combined watercolor (hand painted on more than 200 sheets of paper!) and letterpress printing into a seriously gorgeous wedding invitation.

From Meghan: Julie and Bo’s upstate New York wedding had a bohemian, outdoorsy, and slightly vintage vibe with a color scheme of peach and robin’s egg blue. It was really important that their invitations felt unique and hand made, so when Julie showed me her Pinterest board full of ombrés, I knew I just had to try a hand-painted watercolor ombre paper with blue letterpress printed elements.

I painted over 200 individual pages of extra-thick cotton paper, then letterpress printed and trimmed them to size. The invitation was inspired by a mix of vintage and modern design, with some hand drawn components. Elements like the ribbon motif, the crossed-arrow heart, and 1920s-inspired double lines and angles, along with a mix of script and sans-serif typefaces came together to form the final design.

I also created a Julie and Bo ‘logomark,’ which we used on the save the dates, programs and wedding website, and also translated into a rubber stamp and wax seal. That artwork was later used on matchbooks, favors and cups at the wedding.

Jennifer + Eric’s Colorful Gold Foil Calligraphy Wedding Invitations

If you love bright, bold colors and shiny gold foil, you’ll love these wedding invitations! A collaboration between calligrapher Jenna Blazevich and designer/printer Margot Madison, the invitation suite features bright jewel tones paired with both gold foil and shiny metallic gold ink, a colorful floral envelope liner, and lots of pretty day-of stationery details!

From Jenna: This entirely hand-lettered custom wedding invitation suite was a collaboration between myself and Margot Madison for the wedding of Cincinnati event planner Jennifer Trokhan. Jennifer wanted to work with a collection of vibrant gem tones and subtle hits of gold and an occasional aubergine purple.

The wedding took place at the Taft Museum of Art in Cincinnati, and the color story which began with this rich invitation continued through the day-of stationery and accommodating table elements. For the envelope liner, Margot and I chose a print from Katrina Rocella’s Spoonflower shop.

The invitation itself features gold foil, and the effect of the deeply imprinted gold on the thick peacock stock turned out really special. I completed the envelope addressing, table numbers, place cards, and out-of-town guest cards by hand in my Julienne calligraphy style with gold ink.

The printed day-of stationery elements includes hand-lettered menus, programs, and thank-you tags for guest favors and were screen printed by local Cincinnati printer, Jon Flannery at Cryptogram, all in a gold metallic ink.

Dara + Todd’s Bold Modern Wedding Invitations

For her own wedding at a gastropub in Brooklyn, Dara from Rafftruck Designs wanted to create a clean design that would complement the wedding venue. Dara incorporated a floral envelope liner and a striped teal backing for some pops of color. Personality-filled fonts, colorful envelopes, and a small letterpress card announcing the “The Rafftruck Wedding” (a combination of their last names) helped to round out the invitation suite!

From Dara: Todd and I were getting married in a gastropub in Brooklyn that has so much character all on it’s own, and we knew we wanted our clean style to complement the space. We also knew we wanted to incorporate our nickname, Rafftruck (the combination of his last name and my maiden name), that had been with us from the start. With that in mind, I set out to design our wedding suite, knowing our guests’ first impression of our special day would be based on the contents of the envelope.

I decided that pairing a modern serif with some fun, bold, personality-filled fonts would liven up the design, yet keep things simple and classic. For that extra something, the envelopes were lined with a bright floral print and the invitations were backed with a teal (our favorite color) stripe.  All the pieces were letterpress printed on 118# bright white 100% cotton paper. Charcoal ink was used across the board, with the exception of a single hot pink heart on the map to pinpoint the location of our reception. Rounding out the suite, a letterpress card announcing The Rafftruck Wedding was adhered to a teal band to wrap the individual items.

To tie everything together, I letterpress printed coasters using the same color palette and patterns as our invitations to give away as favors at the wedding. If there’s one way I had to describe this project overall, it’s that it’s totally “Rafftruck”.

Equestrian Wedding Invitation + Calligraphy Inspiration

I have some more inspiration to share with you today – this time in the form of beautiful equestrian-inspired wedding invitations and calligraphy from Kara Anne Paper & Lettering! Kara collaborated with the ladies of Southern Posies to create pretty paper goodies inspired by the Kentucky Derby, from invitations to escort cards and menus. I love the use of copper calligraphy throughout the suite, so gorgeous!

From Kara: This Kentucky Derby-inspired wedding paper was so much fun to design! Having a love for horses since I was a little girl, I knew right away I would enjoy every second of this equestrian inspiration shoot, which took place at the beautiful Stables at Russell Crossroads in Alexander City, Alabama.

When Crystal Strickland with Southern Posies described her vision for the florals and overall design theme I knew I wanted to create illustrated elements with a horse theme and a rustic chic feel. I designed a casual invitation suite on an eco-friendly cream color paper with a mix of copper calligraphy and block lettering for the envelopes.

The thank you card with the couple’s last initial was inspired by the shape of a horseshoe and the bold yellow roses used in the bridal bouquet.

The menus were inspired by race flags, printed on a textured eco-friendly paper and completed with a copper satin ribbon.

The entry table included horse stamped muslin bags with blackberries (Kentucky’s state fruit), little whiskey favors for the men, and green apples for the horses. The welcome sign is copper calligraphy on a brown paper.
