Arabic Wood Greeting Cards from Natoof

Mariam from Natoof, a creative studio based in Dubai, sent over these lovely cards that she designed for the month of Ramadan.  The flat note cards feature Miriam’s botanical illustrations with Arabic calligraphy, all printed on eco-friendly birch.  The intricate designs are so beautiful!

From Mariam: It’s always exciting to find a new material for our artwork.  Though we love paper and we love wood laser engraving, these flat birch eco-friendly wood cards are absolutely fabulous.  We thought of trying it for our season’s greeting cards and it turned out great.  Having colors printed on wood is a blast, the card is printed with beautiful flowery illustrations in the shades of dark purple, blue, yellow, green and with Arabic typography.

Thanks Mariam!

Modern Nautical Black + White Wedding Invitations

Today I’m loving these crisp black and white wedding invitations from Nicole at Umama.  Nicole drew her inspiration from her favorite Walt Whitman poem, Out of the Ocean, incorporating a sweet anchor pattern in the envelope liner and a bold enlarged stripe pattern.

From Nicole: In this suite, I drew upon the words from Whitman’s poem, Out of the Ocean:

Out of the rolling ocean, the crowd, came a drop gently to me,
Whispering, I love you, before long I die,
I have travel’d a long way, merely to look on you, to touch you,
For I could not die till I once look’d on you,
For I fear’d I might afterward lose you.

I was inspired to create a subtle nautical invite that captured the ocean from Whitman’s point of view, pensive and bold.
The design includes stripes along the bottom, a nautical monogram, and sweet anchors in the envelope liner.

Luke’s Striped Letterpress Birthday Party Invitations

Rachelle from Wiley Valentine sent over these adorable custom birthday party invitations that she recently designed for Desiree from Desiree Spinner Events.  Desiree’s son Luke will be turning seven later this month, so Rachelle went with a modern one-color design with playful stripes.  The invitations were letterpress printed on thick cotton paper with corresponding envelopes – so fun!

Geographic Paper Love

Confession: my love for maps and geographic art goes well beyond the city I call home.  Yesterday I featured some DC-themed paper art, so today I thought it’d be fun to step outside of our nation’s capital.  Perhaps this is my urban planning background talking, but I’ll admit: I go weak in the knees for a great map or some artistic place-based imagery.

LuciasArt’s City Art Map series makes my heart go pitter-patter.

These graphic city skyline prints from Bugsy and Sprite are so fun and punchy.  (And I couldn’t resist a hometown Raleigh shout out!)

One Canoe Two’s state series is the perfect way to show your state pride and get your letterpress on at the same time.  I adore their breezy style. (Also: Shoutout to Nole’s home state!)

I’m a huge fan of the letterpress state bird series from Dutch Door Press.  I’ve given two of them as gifts… and both elicited big ooh’s and aah’s.

I’m currently working with BugUnderGlass on a collection of maps for my dining room.  Their vintage maps framed with preserved butterflies are simply gorgeous… a little bit of a magic on the wall, don’t you think. (Related: I wouldn’t mind fluttering away to Australia one of these days…)
