Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! Did you all have a happy Halloween? Sophie was a little lion and all ready to hand out candy, but it was rainy and windy so we didn’t get as many trick or treaters as we had expected. More candy for us I guess? Anyway, I’m super excited for this weekend. I’m co-hosting a party for a dear friend due with a baby girl in just a few short weeks! And of course I’m looking forward to sharing the decor and paper details with all of you! But in the meantime…

Sybil + Oliver’s Floral Poster Wedding Invitations

Nicole from Umama decided to go big with these wedding invitations – like poster big! Nicole incorporated a watercolor-inspired floral pattern and made sure that the reverse side of the invitation could stand alone as keepsake artwork. Beautiful!

From Nicole: For Sybil and Oliver’s invitation, we wanted to go big! But in being big, we also wanted to make it beautiful and purposeful. The artwork on the back was designed to be a keepsake: to hang on a wall, add to an inspiration board, or pass to a friend.

Delicate watercolor-esque flowers adorn the invitation, which was then wrapped with an ombre jade ribbon and sealed within a mailer tube. A little LOVE goes a long way!

Julie + Bo’s Hand Painted Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! We’re starting the week with some beautiful wedding invitations from Meghan of And Here We Are! Inspired by the bride’s love of all things ombré, Meghan combined watercolor (hand painted on more than 200 sheets of paper!) and letterpress printing into a seriously gorgeous wedding invitation.

From Meghan: Julie and Bo’s upstate New York wedding had a bohemian, outdoorsy, and slightly vintage vibe with a color scheme of peach and robin’s egg blue. It was really important that their invitations felt unique and hand made, so when Julie showed me her Pinterest board full of ombrés, I knew I just had to try a hand-painted watercolor ombre paper with blue letterpress printed elements.

I painted over 200 individual pages of extra-thick cotton paper, then letterpress printed and trimmed them to size. The invitation was inspired by a mix of vintage and modern design, with some hand drawn components. Elements like the ribbon motif, the crossed-arrow heart, and 1920s-inspired double lines and angles, along with a mix of script and sans-serif typefaces came together to form the final design.

I also created a Julie and Bo ‘logomark,’ which we used on the save the dates, programs and wedding website, and also translated into a rubber stamp and wax seal. That artwork was later used on matchbooks, favors and cups at the wedding.

Laura’s Floral Fabric 30th Birthday Party Invitations

Erin’s watercolor wedding invitations were among my favorites from 2012, so I was thrilled to hear from her again – this time with some invitations that she created for her sister Laura’s 30th birthday! These invitations reflect Erin’s love of sewing, with a beautiful fall-inspired corduroy fabric backing sewn to the kraft paper invitations using gold thread. Gorgeous!

From Erin: My sister, Laura, is a wedding photographer and loves gorgeous, printed invitations. For her 30th birthday, I wanted to merge her love of printed work and calligraphy with my love of sewing to add a special, personal touch. My jumping off point in the design was some gorgeous fall-esque corduroy fabric that I found at Colorado Fabrics, which I sewed onto the back of each invitation using gold thread. The green envelopes (addressed in my sister’s hand lettering) completed the invitation.

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! We’re looking forward to a beautiful fall weekend here in DC, which is a welcome change after what felt like an eternity of rain last weekend. My dad and step-mom are coming to visit this weekend, so we’re looking forward to taking them to pick pumpkins at our favorite farm and checking out the fall foliage at the National Arboretum (now that the ridiculous shutdown is finally, thankfully, over). Yay! But in the meantime…
