Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! It has been such a wonderful, amazing week, with two brand new columns and one very special project. And I’m just bursting with affection for all of you wonderful readers that make all of this possible in the first place! Thank you all so much, for stopping by every day and sharing your enthusiasm through comments, pins, tweets, and emails! I’ve also been soldiering through this week with a nasty cold (thanks to Miss Sophie), so I’m signing off now to crawl back into bed and hopefully kick this bug out of my system. But in the meantime…

Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Watercolor

One of my all time favorite wedding stationery elements has to be watercolor. I love that it can be deep and rich, or light and airy and it just makes the most perfect color statement when brushed across any day-of item. And paired with calligraphy? Well that’s just too good. Take a look! —Kelly

Lauren + Daniel’s Historic Charleston Save the Dates

We’re on a hand painting roll these days! First Julie and Bo’s hand painted watercolor wedding invitations, and now these stunning save the dates from Studio R! The ladies of Studio R – Rachael, Megan, and Amanda Claire – created these save the dates for a wedding in the low country: Charleston, South Carolina. Inspired by Old Charleston charm, the save the dates feature a quatrefoil pattern belly band and hand painted map of Charleston. Love!

From Amanda Claire at Studio R: Our bride came to us inspired by the aesthetic charm of historic Charleston, South Carolina, where she and her fiancé Daniel were married. We took her inspiration and created a stacked, two-card save the date. The soft gray cards were wrapped in a pale blue belly band that included the couple’s monogram and a quatrefoil pattern to mimic shapes found in traditional Charleston architecture.

We used a local calligrapher’s hand lettering throughout the stationery, complimenting the hand painted elements of the Charleston map on the second insert card. The watercolor map orients guests to wedding weekend venues and accommodations. The subdued color palette of the inks and papers complements the coastal landscape of the city. Our fine art skills were showcased in this set with a custom watercolor painting, hand drawn map icons and hand lettering.

Paula + Bryan’s Whimsical Floral Wedding Invitations

These stunning wedding invitations from Belinda Love Lee feature whimsical hand lettering paired with watercolor illustrations! Created for her brother’s wedding this past summer, Belinda was inspired by the vineyard wedding venue to incorporate vine illustrations along with floral details. Hand lettering (by the bride!) in white ink on the kraft envelopes was the perfect finishing touch!

From Belinda: Paula and Bryan’s wedding invitations are very dear to my heart because I had the privilege of designing for my very own brother’s special day. The invitations were inspired by the vineyard wedding venue. We definitely had to incorporate vines of some sort into the design.

I hand illustrated the vines and flowers using gauche and watercolor, then paired it along side some whimsical hand lettering to make it really unique and individual to them. They wanted the invitations to have a good balance of elegant and rustic elements. The envelopes themselves were penned by the bride to give a personal touch for each guest.

Prior to the wedding we designed a wedding website for guests to read their love story and submit rsvps. It was really awesome to see my design not only on paper but on screen!

The programs I designed for the day were not only pretty but also very functional as we added little handles, making them into fans for guests to use on that warm day.
