Colorful Patterned Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! We had a gray and rainy weekend here in DC, so I wanted to start the week with something bright and cheerful â€“ and I’m not sure it gets more cheerful than these colorful patterned letterpress wedding invitations from Samantha and Whitney of Gus & Ruby Letterpress! Bright and punchy colors! Playful patterns! Each detail is a perfect fit for this coral, red, peach, and pink invitation suite. So perfect for a late summer wedding in Maine!

From Sam & Whit: It is always an exceptional honor to design for close friends! This custom suite was designed for our former store manager (and dear, dear friend) Liz and her lovely guy. They wanted their wedding to reflect the fun punchy colors and bright vibrant feel of late summer in Maine.

A cheeky save the date booklet started things off and came complete with a reply card full of activities so the couple could further plan fun events for their out of town guests.

The invitation suite was housed in a 4-color letterpress printed gatefold that was tied shut with twine and a hang tag. It’s the little extra details, such as the hang tag, that make the invitation special for people to open!

A variety of mixed patterns gave lots of visual interest and a cohesive but interesting vibe. We love playing with patterns and it was fun to layer in multiple fun patterns to grab the eyes of wedding guests and get them excited for the weekend!

For the typography, we paired a whimsical script with a traditional roman font for a mix of romance and fun. The palette of rhodamine red, corals, peach and pinks really gave the whole suite a punchy feel. The type-set invitation was printed on double-thick 100% cotton to give it an elevated and luxurious feel.

We love getting to reinforce the aesthetic of the day with well-crafted day-of wedding stationery items. Gorgeous watercolor painted escort cards, letterpress printed menus, and a program all kept the paper feeling cohesive from the save the date all the way through the day-of elements.

As always, the pieces were lovingly letterpress printed and foil printed by hand on our antique presses on beautiful, textural, super thick 100% cotton paper. What a joy it was to work on the special project for our dear friends!

Trendspotting: Vellum Inspiration!

It’s still relatively early in 2017, but I already have a favorite trend for this year: Vellum! If you aren’t familiar with this gorgeous translucent material, vellum is a semi-transparent paper made from rag or plasticized cotton and is often used in applications where tracing is involved. But vellum is seriously beautiful in its own right, especially when combined with elegant calligraphy and wax seals. You can also run a vellum sheet through a regular home printer! Vellum comes in a variety of shades, from traditional translucent white to pale pink, lavender, aqua – even iridescent and opalescent! Vellum is one of my current favorite stationery trends, along with deckled edges and all things iridescent/hologram, but I realized I hadn’t featured a ton of vellum inspiration here. So I put out a call for stationers and calligraphers to share their images via email and the #osbpvellum hashtag, and I’m sharing a few of my favorites with you today!

From Erin: I’m so excited to share one of my favourite custom projects, these travel-guide inspired invitations! This project started with kind of a funny, serendipitous story! The groom, Brian, was a good friend of mine from back in high school, but we had lost touch over a decade since I moved to London. His fiancée, Stef, was browsing through Oh So Beautiful Paper and Pinterest while planning their wedding and found my work. Then, she decided to get in touch with me about designing her wedding invitations. After a few rounds of funny emails, we finally discovered that we had known each other all along! What a small world!

Stef and Brian are a fun-loving couple who love to travel the world. Their destination wedding was at a beautiful resort in Phuket, Thailand and they were married on the beach at sunset!

Tropical Turquoise and Gold Foil Wedding Invitations by Berin Made

At the outset, Stef already had some lovely ideas for her invitations, which she shared with me and I used as a starting point. She loved the idea of a travel guide which documents not only their wedding details, but all the amazing restaurants and local haunts that their friends could try out when they arrived for the wedding weekend. Armed with lots of content, we decided on a pocket-sized accordion fold-out booklet as our format. This was able to house all their restaurant and spa reviews, as well as dress codes, packing guide, and a helpful map of the local area!

Stef also showed me the beautiful lace pattern of her dress which incorporated dragonflies, and I was immediately smitten with it! The color palette for her wedding was cool blues and cream, inspired by sandy beaches and the flowing dresses of her bridesmaids. We worked that inspiration into the aesthetic of the suite, with the subtle dragonfly lace illustration on the front cover, and gold foil hand lettering for their names.

To complete the stationery suite, we also made wedding programs, which doubled as confetti pockets, calligraphy place cards and thank you cards!

When you’re getting married at a farm-to-table restaurant inside a gorgeous refurbished barn in upstate New York, why would you look anywhere else for your wedding invitation inspiration? Enter these gorgeous illustrated farm to table inspired wedding invitations with rich natural hues and stunning copper foil details from Rachel of Robinson Press! From the save the date card inspired by an antique seed packet to the sophisticated navy wedding program, every stationery element from this farm to table wedding is perfect for a crisp fall wedding!

Illustrated Farm to Table Inspired Wedding Invitations by Robinson Press

From Rachel: Hope and Miles wanted to build excitement for their farm to table wedding celebration at the esteemed Blue Hill at Stone Barns restaurant. We decided to base the save the date design on antique seed packets. The save the date was letterpress printed in three colors on Reich Savoy double thick cotton paper.

The invitation evolved from there to include antique botanical illustrations, mixed with artful borders, and hand calligraphy of the couple’s names and return address by Jenny at Leveret & Hare.

We added some copper foil details and enlarged a lavender illustration to create an abstract foil printed envelope liner. We letterpress printed it all on Reich Savoy double thick cotton paper, enlisting the help of our pals at DWRI Letterpress in Providence.

We used Colorplan amethyst RSVP envelopes for a pop of dark purple here and there. We took the printed suite to our friend Angela at Studio Carta and spent way too long trying out different colors and styles of ribbon for the perfect complement to tie together the four coordinating pieces. Settling on a metallic copper ribbon, we then sent the outer envelopes off for calligraphy addressing by Jenny at Leveret & Hare.

Meanwhile, for the wedding programs, we designed and hand-bound 150 passport sized booklets with Italian parchment endpapers and waxed Irish cotton linen book thread. We made further use of the beautiful borders and botanicals for escort cards, table names, and welcome notes.
