My girls have birthdays coming up in September, and I have party planning on the brain! And when it comes to party favors, I’m always in favor of something edible – ideally chocolate. So today I’m partnering with My M&M’S to create three DIY party favors with their adorable personalized M&M’s, complete with printable party favor tags from Courtney of Swiss Cottage Designs! For the packaging, I combined two of my favorite things â€“ anything iridescent and colorful vellum – to create three packaging options perfect for any occasion! So whether you’re planning a wedding or a bridal shower, baby shower or a birthday party, just pick your favorite printable tag and add some colorful M&M’s and you’ll be good to go! Oh, and keep reading below for a special discount from My M&M’S just for Oh So Beautiful Paper readers!

My M&M’S are the ideal personalized party favor. As a party guest, I always hope for something edible rather than a random personalized trinket, and who doesn’t like chocolate?? My M&M’S are completely customizable with photos or text, which means you can make them totally unique to your event. You don’t need graphic design skills to create the personalized M&M’s – just upload a photo or type in your selected text and My M&M’S will take care of the rest! I kept mine simple with short messages of “yay!” and “xoxo,” but I think it would be so sweet to include names for a wedding or bridal shower – or even a name and birthday for a kids birthday party!

I used three different size party favors, each with different printable party favor tags: a long and skinny rectangular candy box, a square favor box, and glassine envelopes. Courtney and I kept the favor tag designs fairly simple with cute hand lettered messages and sweet little illustrations that could work for a variety of occasions. The favor boxes are both clear so you can see a little glimpse of the My M&M’S inside, while the color of the My M&M’S peeks through the glassine envelopes to give a hint of what’s inside. My M&M’S are the perfect solution for DIY party favors and candy buffets, especially since you can choose your own colors! I used a color palette of pastels – pink, lavender, cream, and light blue – with a bit of aqua and dark green. With 25 colors to mix and match, you can find the right color combination for any event!

For the long rectangle favor boxes, I used strips of transparent vellum in our color palette of pink, purple, and aqua – they look so great against the My M&M’S! I also found positively DREAMY opalescent vellum and a white vellum with iridescent dots for just a little extra sparkle. I printed Courtney’s designs directly on the opalescent and iridescent vellum, cut the printed vellum into 2″ strips, and layered that over another 3″ strip of vellum in a complementary color.

I paired the square favor boxes with circle favor tags. For some favor boxes, I wrapped the boxes in 1″ strips of colorful vellum and sparkly iridescent twine. For other favor boxes, I wrapped the entire box in squares of iridescent cellophane and tied it up with sparkly twine. To turn the circle tags into gift tags, just print onto vellum and punch them out using a 1.5″ circle punch, then punch a 1/8″ hole for the twine. Or print the circle tags onto these labels and stick two labels together to create a tag!

The glassine bags feature a layer of iridescent cellophane (DIY tutorial coming tomorrow!) with a colorful vellum tag and sparkly twine.

I printed mostly black and white versions of the printable party favor tags, but I included some color versions in case you want to print them onto labels or white printer paper. Use full sheet labels for Little Wishes and cut down to 2″ wide, use these square labels for the Love is Sweet tags, and use these circle labels for the Best Day Ever tags. They’re all formatted in the appropriate templates for each label and ready to print! The color versions also look AMAZING printed onto the opalescent and iridescent vellum, I’m just saying.

Happy Weekend – and Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Friday everyone! And Happy (almost) Fourth of July! Do you have fun plans for the long weekend? I’m hoping to take our girls to a swimming pool for the first time in FOREVER. We took Sophie swimming when she was just a wee baby, but this will be Alice’s first swimming experience! Sophie hated swimming pools (and any large body of water, really) back then, but I’m hoping things have changed now that she’s an (almost) four year old. We’ll see! But in the meantime…

Paper Party 2016: The Cocktails (and Recipes!)

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned that we offered two signature cocktails to guests at Paper Party 2016. In the past we’ve offered an open (cash) bar so that guests could order whatever they liked, but I’ve always wanted to do a custom cocktail menu – after all, it is kind of one of the things we do best around here! So we finally did it! Andrew came up with two recipes that we thought worked well for both the time of year and the number of guests (we were estimating around 250 people): a Pineapple Mai Tai and a Lavender Collins. They’re both so, so good and perfect for summer get togethers! Today we’re sharing the recipes for both drinks, along with the cocktail coasters, stir sticks, menus, and matchbox favors that we made for the Paper Party!

First, the stationery! Sarah from Parrott Design Studio designed the gorgeous cocktail menus – I printed them at home using my Epson WorkForce WF-7610 printer (which can print borderless!). I printed a smaller 5×7 size to scatter around the venue, and a larger 8×10 size to display at the bar.

We also worked with Foryourparty.com to make some fun wood cocktail stir sticks in shiny lavender foil, coasters in shiny lavender foil, and – my personal favorite – Riviera matchbox party favors with shiny silver foil on lavender Color Plan paper. I just can’t get enough lavender these days!

Okay, so I may have gone a bit coaster crazy for the party this year, but after seeing this absolutely AMAZING hologram foil called Micro Glitter at Bella Figura when selecting a foil for the Paper Party invitations, I asked if they’d be willing to print up some coasters for the party. Can you blame me? The Micro Glitter hologram foil is just ridiculously awesome. It reminds me of a disco ball! How could I resist?

Okay, now on to the cocktail recipes! I wanted one of the cocktails to be fruity and tropical, and the other cocktail to be effervescent and refreshing (especially after a long day at the Javits Center). A Pineapple Mai Tai and Lavender Collins were the perfect fit! I highly recommend giving both of these cocktails a spin at home!

Pineapple Mai Tai Cocktail Recipe / Oh So Beautiful Paper

Pineapple Mai Tai

1 oz Silver Rum
1 oz Aged Rum
1 oz Lime Juice
3/4 oz El Guapo Orgeat
1/2 oz Pineapple Juice
1/2 oz Orange Curaçao

Combine all the ingredients in a shaker filled two-thirds with ice and shake gently. Strain into a lowball glass filled with crushed ice and garnish with a mint bouquet. Enjoy!

One quick note about shaken drinks: If you’re making a large quantity of a shaken cocktail recipe in advance, chances are you won’t individually shake each cocktail in a cocktail shaker. But! Shaking a cocktail with ice adds water to a drink, so without it the drink can come out a bit on the strong side. When pre-mixing a large batch of cocktails in advance, you’ll need to add extra water to the recipe to compensate. We recommend adding about half an ounce of water per serving for these kinds of drinks.

Lavender-Lemon Collins Cocktail Recipe / Oh So Beautiful Paper

Lavender Collins

2 oz Dry Gin
1 oz Royal Rose Lavender-Lemon Syrup
3/4 oz Lemon Juice
Soda Water
Mint

Add mint and ice to a highball glass, then add the gin, lavender-lemon syrup, and lemon juice. Top with soda water and give it a good stir to combine. Enjoy!

A huge thanks to El Guapo Bitters and Royal Rose who so generously donated their syrups for the Paper Party so that we could make these wonderful cocktails!

Rustic Woodland Watercolor Wedding Invitations

These rustic woodland watercolor wedding invitations from Amanda at Wide Eyes Paper Co. are proof that invitations can be rustic and quirky at the same time! With custom portraits of the bride and groom and watercolor imagery of the Lake Tahoe wedding venue, this whimsical suite was the perfect way to invite family and friends to a destination wedding in the mountains!

Rustic Woodland Watercolor Wedding Invitations by Wide Eyes Paper Co. / Oh So Beautiful Paper

From Amanda: Rustic wilderness and vibrant hues of green and blue were the inspiration behind this whimsical watercolor Lake Tahoe invitation suite. We worked closely with Gillian and Matt to capture the vision for their wedding stationery. They wanted to invite all of their family and friends to their destination wedding in Lake Tahoe in a quirky, unique, and non-traditional way. We took this challenge and executed it with custom watercolor imagery, whimsical typography, and bright pops of color.

We painted custom watercolor scenery on the main invitation to capture the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe. The invitation envelopes were also lined with the custom watercolor scenery and addressed in a complementary font. We also painted custom watercolor portraits of Gillian and Matt that were incorporated throughout the invitation suite, from the save the dates to the RSVP cards – even custom water bottles given to guests as wedding favors!

Keeping with this bright and cheery theme, we paired the invitations with a pomegranate colored envelope. Lastly, we created a custom monogram that was engraved on wood circles, which were used to assemble the main invitation and coordinating paper goods neatly into the envelope.
