Nina + John’s DIY Letterpress Wedding Invitations

It takes a very brave bride to DIY her own letterpress wedding invitations, and that’s exactly what Nina decided to do!  She kept things manageable by using one of my favorite calligraphy fonts – Belluccia – and limiting herself to a two-color design that fit with her vintage romance wedding theme.  After taking a letterpress course at The Arm in Brooklyn she was ready to get printing, and here’s how the invitations turned out!

From Nina: I  designed my own wedding invitations using the fonts Telegrafico and Belluccia, then took a letterpress course at The Arm in Brooklyn where I later created these invitations.  I love the texture of paper – we used a super thick 600 gsm weight paper for the main invitation.  I also picked up some beautiful kraft paper from Paper Presentation in New York for some of the enclosures.

We used two letterpress colours: a custom made red and a standard Pantone Black.  My theme is based on a Midsummer Night’s Dream and vintage romance, so I wanted a lot of muted pale blushes and lilacs.  The red in the main invitation is a nod to my Asian roots (red is the colour for Chinese weddings!).

Meredith + Joe’s Rustic Mountain Wedding Invitations

Today’s second set of wedding invitations come to us from the talented team of Noteworthy* Paper & Press in Misoula, Montana.  Taylor sent over these rustic wedding invitations that they recently created for a couple with a shared love of outdoor activities, from hiking to rafting to skiing.  The beautiful two color letterpress design is perfect for a wedding in the mountains of Montana!

From Taylor: Meredith and Joe fell in love over ten years ago while working as white water rafting guides on the wild and scenic rivers of Montana and Idaho.  Even today the couple spends most of their free time outdoors – running the river in the summer months and skiing when the snow flies.  This outdoor inspired wedding invitation suite reflects their mutual love of the outdoors, their laid back lifestyles and the rustic elegance of a Montana wedding.

{happy weekend!}

Woah.  How is it the last week of June already??  Slow down summer!  We’re preparing for another scorcher of a weekend here in DC, but I’m planning to spend most of the weekend indoors with nursery projects – from painting to putting the crib together!  After thinking about the layout for weeks, I’m so excited to see the room finally come together.  But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

As usual, we have a fun cocktail coming up for you this afternoon, so check back a bit later for the recipe!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday!  xoxo

Summer Crawfish Boil Invitations

With the 4th of July coming up next week (!!), summer is definitely in full effect.  Lauren Chism Fine Papers created these festive invitations for an annual crawfish boil down in Dallas – the combination of modern typography and the red, white, and blue color palette seems perfect for any summer fête.  So fun!

From Lauren:  Bailey and her husband throw a crawfish boil each year and she came to me looking for a fun and festive invitation.  I incorporated custom crawfish illustrations into a modern typography layout to create a clean but playful look.  The invitations were flat printed on cotton card stock and paired with bright red envelopes.  I love how the color scheme reminds me of a backyard party – perfect for summer celebrations!

Nancy + Guy’s Modern Navy and White Wedding Invitations

It’s so fun to see designers expand their horizons with each new project.  Virginia and Mishayla of Plane Paper specialize in laser-cut greeting cards and stationery, but recently took on a custom wedding invitation design project.  They created a modern chevron-inspired design for both the invitation and laser-cut envelope, partnering with their studiomate Repeat Press to letterpress print the invitation suite.

From Virginia and Mishayla: Nancy and Guy wanted a wedding suite that would remain timeless, yet have a modern edge.  We combined a bold, graphic chevron pattern with a serif font and traditional wording – all in classic navy blue.

We designed a laser-cut envelope, our signature element, again incorporating the chevron pattern.  The envelope was tied with a letterpress tag with the reception location and wedding website.  Yellow baker’s twine added a pop of summer color and sense of playfulness to the suite.

We also designed ‘day-of’ elements, specifically flags wrapped around yellow and white paper straws.  Both the flag and tag used the ‘v’ of the chevron to allude to their respective, familiar silhouettes.
