Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! I’m super excited for this weekend – I’m heading up to New York to attend NYNOW! After skipping the summer show (I was 8 months pregnant with Alice at the time), I’m looking forward to saying hello to all my exhibitor friends in person and see all their new goodies! You can walk the show with me via Instagram (I’ll be walking Sunday and Monday), and of course I’ll be sure to share a few favorites here after I get back. But in the meantime…

Casey + Blain’s Brewery Baby Shower Invitations

I love the idea of a laid-back baby shower – aka pre-baby party celebration! Laura from Duncan Park Papers drew inspiration from the venue (a brewery!) when designing these baby shower invitations, incorporating casual lettering in a silhouetted pilsner glass. So fun!

From Laura: My brother-in-law and his wife, Jackie, came to me looking for an out of the ordinary baby shower invitation for Jackie’s sister Casey and her husband Blain. The event was a couples shower, hosted at a local brewery for a fun and laid-back vibe.

For the design, we went with a ‘baby is brewing’ theme. I chose a vertical layout inspired by a drink menu, and completed the look with a pilsner glass silhouette filled with hand drawn elements, subtle texture, and modern type. The mint green and yellow we used are the colors of the baby’s nursery: neutral, because the couple is waiting until the baby’s birth to learn the gender. Registry information and additional details were included on the back of the digitally printed invitation, and the package was completed with a top opening kraft envelope.

This was one of my favorite custom projects to date, the location provided such an immediate inspiration and I love where it ended up!

Kristen’s Confetti Baby Shower Invitations

If there’s any celebration that calls for confetti, it’s a baby shower! Designer Lauren Chism sent over these bright and colorful baby shower invitations for her friend’s recent shower. Lauren filled vellum envelopes with a rainbow of handmade confetti – so fun!

From Lauren: As a stationery designer, it’s been so fun to transition from weddings to babies with my friends. I have been lucky enough to design lots of special paper goods for my friend, Kristen, and I had the wonderful honor of designing the invitations for her baby shower this past fall. If I could use any word to describe Kristen, it’s ‘FUN’, so I knew that they needed to have a level of playfulness to them…  and lots and LOTS of color. We ended up going with a confetti themed shower and her sister thought it would be awesome if we could use actual confetti for the invitations… and so we did!

After playing around with a few ideas, I decided to tuck each invitation inside a vellum envelope attached to bright yellow card stock. Each envelope was full of handmade confetti and sealed with a sticker. I tried to use enough confetti that you pretty much couldn’t avoid a little mess of confetti when opening. The back of the invitation featured all the details in a fun, unique layout. Everything was digitally printed, so even with the different pieces, it was still economical. I loved how every part fit with the bright cheerful (and COLORFUL) theme.

Kristen always challenges me to go outside of my neutral color palette with her love for bright colors. Designing with lots of color pretty much goes against all of my natural instincts, but I have to say, the result sure is fun! I should do it more often!

Anna + Lanier’s Elegant Letterpress Calligraphy Wedding Invitations

I’m such a fan of the beautiful work of Sarah from August Blume – I even got the chance to work with her on my friend Maggie’s baby shower invitations a while back! So I was thrilled when Sarah sent over these elegant calligraphy wedding invitations with delicate blind letterpress printed details. So pretty!

From Sarah: This invitation suite was custom designed for a sweet, Southern couple who were married in their hometown of Jackson, Tennessee. The bride and groom wanted their invitation to reflect their elegant, textural, and romantic wedding day. The suite was letterpress printed on 220lb Crane Lettra and incorporated a delicate blind impression to reflect on the couple’s reception venue – a historic hotel in downtown Jackson.

The invitation and inserts featured beautiful calligraphy by Elizabeth Hardin and classic typography in warm gray. The stone colored reply envelope added another layer of color and texture. A custom die-cut quatrefoil monogram tag was slid on to a velvet ribbon wrap to tie it all together. Elizabeth’s calligraphy on both the inner and outer envelopes elevated the design and helped set the tone for such a special day.
