Shelby + Mike’s Modern Illustrated Boston Wedding Invitations

Today I’m thrilled to feature these wedding invitations by the talented ladies at Gus & Ruby Letterpress!  Samantha and Whitney worked with the bride and groom to create invitations and day-of wedding stationery inspired by one of my favorite cities, Boston!  I love the illustrations of local landmarks combined with fun details like subway map envelope liners.  So great!

From Samantha and Whitney:  The suite was designed for a sweet couple getting married in downtown Boston.  They wanted their stationery to reflect their love of the city while combining both the contemporary, urban sides of Boston with the rich history of the city.  We played off photographs that Whitney turned into line-illustrations of the Boston Common and Zakim bridge (blending a Boston historical landmark with modern engineering).

We then used bold jewel-tone and autumn colors, color backing papers, and contemporary fonts to punch up the look.  Each invitation had blind-printed cobblestone patterning on the back side, which paid homage to the city’s oldest streets, while a custom MBTA subway map envelope liner spoke to the modern transportation of Boston.

The beautiful envelopes were calligraphed by the uber-talented Jenna of Love, Jenna Calligraphy.  Of course, all the pieces were lovingly letterpress printed by hand on our antique press (c. 1896) on beautiful, textural, super thick 220# 100% cotton paper.

The couple named each table after a T stop, so day-of pieces featured MBTA sub-way stop inspired graphics, more cobblestone and the Zakim bridge graphic to tie it all together.

Thanks Sam and Whit!

Sarah + Jeff’s Modern Wedding Invitations and Save the Dates

It’s always a great day when something from designer Kate Holgate shows up in my inbox!  Kate created these awesome wedding invitations last year, and today she’s back with another gorgeous suite.  Kate combined letterpress and digital printing, along with geometric patterns and lots of fun color, to create a modern and truly unique invitation suite for Sarah and Jeff’s Chicago wedding.

From Kate: Sarah and Jeff will be married in Chicago next month.  They wanted a unique design that combined lots of texture, geometric patterns and interesting typography.  Their gorgeous color pallet consisted of navy blue with accents of aqua and fuchsia.

Sarah and Jeff were a dream to work with; they had impeccable taste and were very open to ideas.  Their production budget allowed for two of the pieces to be letterpress printed; we chose to letterpress print the save the date and invitation packet cover piece.  Both incorporated a blind impression and navy blue ink.

The rest of the suite was digitally printed.  We alternated patterns and colors on the backs of the individual pieces for a fun, colorful effect.  Sarah and Jeff love to kayak on the Chicago River together, so I subtly incorporated paddle icons to personalize the design.  Custom calligraphy gave a nice finishing touch.  Overall, I think that the invitation suite turned out elegant and fresh.

Thanks Kate!

Kristina + Jon’s Sydney Harbor Fabric Wedding Invitations

I am completely smitten with these wedding invitations from Australian designer and photographer Kerrie-Anne Bennett.   Kerrie-Anne created these invitations for a wedding taking place on an antique ship in the Sydney Harbor.  I love the way Kerrie-Anne incorporated canvas as a subtle nod to the nautical wedding venue while also maintaining an organic and modern texture for the invitation suite.

From Kerrie-Anne: I custom designed this wedding invitation suite for a couple who were getting married on Sydney Harbour.  Their ceremony and reception would take place on an old ship called the James Craig, which is over 100 years old.  Using canvas as the main invitation, which is similar to the ship’s sails, I created a stamp and stamped the information and a poem the groom wrote, which I thought was such a nice touch.  I sewed the tops and bottom of these to add a little texture.  For the RSVP card I found an old image of an almost replica of the James Craig.

I continued using the same poem from the invite on the ceremony programs, which tied everything together nicely.

Thanks Kerrie-Anne!

Madeline + Josh’s Rustic Kraft Paper Tennessee Wedding Invitations

Happy Tuesday everyone!  After a much-needed long weekend, we’re jumping right back into the week with a gorgeous set of wedding invitations from Erin at Arboreal.  Erin created these beautiful and rustic invitations for a farm wedding in Tennessee.  The invitations feature one of my favorite combinations – kraft paper and white text – and Erin also worked with the couple to create corresponding menus, thank you cards, and favor tags!

From Erin of Arboreal:  I met Madeline and Josh last year and worked with them on all of their paper goods, from the save the date down to the programs and favor tags.  Working with two creatives (an interior designer and an architect) was refreshing – I love the fact that these two cared about every detail just as much as I did!

The main invitation and tag were both letterpress printed.  The celebration dinner, reply card, map card, and program are foil stamped in white along with chocolate flat ink on kraft paper.  Finishing details include vintage stamps and white calligraphy on kraft paper envelopes plus favor tags and thank you notes.

Such a beautiful invitation suite – thanks Erin!

Eleonora + Anotol’s Vintage Book Wedding Invitations from Momental Designs

Happy Monday everyone!  We’re starting the week off with a beautiful set of wedding invitations from Kristy Rice of Momental Designs fashioned from vintage books!  Kristy created a custom rubber stamp with an illustration inspired by the wedding venue, which was pressed onto the cover of each invitation book.  For the day of wedding stationery, Kristy created table numbers by hand painting on vintage books with designs inspired by the bride’s favorite artist, Frida Kahlo.

From Kristy: Eleonora was hungry for wedding stationery that reflected them as a couple.  They were inspired by the hand painted book invitations that I created for my wedding renewal, and Eleonora knew books needed to be part of the design.  I created a pencil sketch monogram inspired by her venue, the Angel Orensanz Foundation, and a stamp was made so each book cover could be pressed with the monogram art.  Each book was hand picked for its unique color, age, or texture.

I created an interpretative sketch of a computer motherboard – a nod to the groom’s profession as a computer programmer – as companion artwork in the design.  The sketch was fashioned into a wrap and then hand painted in gold on each book invitation.

For the day-of wedding stationery, Eleonora’s aesthetic evolved to infuse a more festive spirit – inspired by her favorite artist Frida Kahlo.  Each of the 15 table numbers were painted on vintage books.  The freehand design changed from book to book including fluffy red blooms, striped accents, and greenery.  The seating plan was painted using a technique reminiscent of vintage sign works.

Thanks Kristy!
