Krista + Josh’s Whimsical Woodland Wedding Invitations

High school sweethearts Krista and Josh love nature, so it made total sense for Krista to draw her inspiration from the great outdoors while designing the invitations for her wedding last summer. Krista incorporated a tree, clouds, and a whimsical script font into the design, which was enclosed in a woodgrain pocket folder. Ironically, Krista and Josh had to cancel their southern New Jersey reception at the last minute due to the derecho that pummeled the East Coast last summer – you’ll definitely want to click the link below for the incredible story!

From Krista: My husband Josh and I love the great outdoors. We camp. We hike. We got engaged on a mountain. We basically grew up in the woods, in the same small square-mile town in New Jersey: Tree City USA aka Wenonah. So naturally, the first thing that came to mind was: a tree. Little did we know that our reception would be cancelled due to a power outage from downed trees of a high wind derecho storm the night before, but that’s a whole other story.

I started with the tree and then incorporated the butterflies, hearts, clouds, and little frog prince… and a lot of color. Next came the very important part of finding a hand-script font to match, which in the end, really made our little fairytale-land come to life. Once the actual invitation design was complete, I was able to carry the look and feel to the rest of the suite: the directions, accommodations, reception and reply cards, and envelopes.

I knew from the start that I would use a natural white linen card stock, since it’s my favorite paper and has that rustic vibe. But then, I had my O-M-G moment when I found the most perfect pocket fold card stock – textured woodgrain! The final touch was tying it off with a natural green raffia ribbon and a pink paper butterfly.

Crystal + Jason’s Red and White Retro Wedding Invitations

I love the versatility of the color red. Dress it up for a classic winter wedding invitation, or down for a picnic-inspired summer wedding. Today we have a set of fun red and black vintage-inspired invitations from Mary at Real Mart. Originally created for the wedding of Real Mart print designer Crystal Dennis, the invitations feature lots of swirls, flourishes, and playful polka dots!

From Mary: Crystal is a print designer here at Real Art. One of our favorites of her designs is the retro invitation suite that she designed for her very own wedding! It has a classic retro theme filled with polka dots, swirls, and curly Qs. It features custom bird and index illustrations, polka dot ribbon and paper, a cute little hang tag, and red envelopes. The invitations were letterpress printed on off-white paper with red and black ink.

Crystal’s wedding reception was held at America’s Packard Museum, an automotive museum filled with beautiful vintage cars! The reception also featured a rockabilly band for some “Real Retro” entertainment.

Emmy’s Oktoberfest 30th Birthday Party Invitations

Lindsay from McMillian + Furlow always has the most creative invitation ideas! Like these fly fishing 70th birthday invitations for her dad and these amazing Memorial Day summer kick-off party invitations. Today she’s sharing the Oktoberfest-inspired invitations that she created for her sister-in-law’s 30th birthday party. I have a feeling my beer-loving husband would very much approve of these invitations!

From Lindsay: I recently designed these 5″ x 7″ postcard invitations for my sister-in-law’s Oktoberfest inspired 30th birthday. We developed the idea of naming the party “Emtoberfest” as a combination of both her name (Emmy) and Oktoberfest. The party will be held at a local German beer hall here in NYC, and typical Oktoberfest attire is strongly encouraged!

We sent the invitations out in an orange envelope which complimented the postcard design beautifully. For budget reasons, these invitations were printed digitally.

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone! My sweet Sophie had a big week: she started daycare on Tuesday! She did great this week, but I was a complete wreck on her first day. We’re all still figuring out our new routine, but it turns out that I’m approximately 800% more productive when I don’t have a whirlwind baby to chase after during the day. I miss my girl while she’s at daycare, but getting things done? So. Good. Today she’s home with me, so I’m heading out to enjoy this beautiful fall weather with her. But in the meantime…

1x1.trans Summer Cocktail Series: End of Summer Bon Voyage Party

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

Check back soon for this week’s cocktail! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here next week! xoxo

End of Summer Cocktail Party

This is officially the last week of summer, which means it’s time for the final installment of our summer cocktail series with St-Germain! As some of you may know, I previously worked as a diplomat with the U.S. Department of State and I still have several friends in the civil and foreign service. Over the years we’ve both welcomed friends home after a couple years overseas or wished them well as they departed for a new assignment. So for this party, we imagined that we were throwing a bon voyage cocktail party – but with cocktail recipes that will work for any party or occasion. This one was particularly fun, since I was able to use some of the treasures that I’ve accumulated during my own travels!

Courtney from Swiss Cottage Designs created the beautiful invitations, featuring a double-sided design with an air mail-inspired border and a map background on kraft paper. I love the way Courtney made the initials look like map pins! Michele from Meant to Be Calligraphy addressed the square envelopes in her Edwards style.

We wanted to bring a slightly more masculine vibe to this cocktail party, so we incorporated wood and kraft paper along with deeper tones of purple and burgundy.

For the floral arrangements, I used jewel toned flowers – sweet peas, ranunculus, anemones, and wax flowers – in a tall brass vase and our Turkish coffee pot, along with a potted maidenhair fern and a few scattered succulents.

I took one of Michele’s calligraphy classes a couple months ago. And while I’m still learning and practicing, I was inspired the night before to create this “bon voyage” banner using a white India ink marker and kraft paper. It’s definitely not perfect, but I really love it!

If you’re hosting a party at home, use every available surface! We found this antique Egyptian etched brass tray at a local flea market, and it makes a perfect coffee table for drinks and appetizers.

For favor bags, I used a pencil eraser to stamp polka dots in neon pink, coral, and purple ink on simple muslin bags.
