Best of 2012: Metallic Wedding Invitations

The metallic trend has been going strong for a couple of years now, and if anything it was an even bigger trend in 2012! Metallics from silver to copper were everywhere at the 2012 National Stationery Show, where designers incorporated metallic foil in everything from greeting cards to wedding invitations. I’m particularly fond of gold foil, so today I thought I’d round up a few of my favorite gold wedding invitations from 2012!

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone! We’re hoping to get our Christmas tree this weekend, and I can’t wait to see Sophie’s reaction to all the twinkling lights and ornaments! Decorating the tree is my very favorite holiday tradition, one that I can’t wait to share with Sophie once she’s a bit older. I’m also taking bets as to which of our cats will be the first to climb (and get stuck in) the tree. Ah, the holidays! But in the meantime…

Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Silver + Gold

I have a feeling by now you are all getting into the holiday spirit, I know I am! My very most favorite thing about holiday color schemes and festivities is the love that my most cherished color – gold – gets. Along with silver (Though I’m not going to lie, this post is mostly gold!), these metallics happily ring in the season all the way through to the new year. Gold has become quite the popular wedding accent, and silver has always been there as an elegant way to add a little shine so even if you aren’t getting married during the winter season, their a pair to keep an eye on. Here’s a look at how to incorporate the two holiday classics into your day-of wedding stationery! — Kelly

Heather’s Creative Calligraphy Wedding Invitations + Holiday Cards

After falling in love with stationery before her June 2011 wedding with Karson Butler Events, Heather decided to infuse her wedding stationery style into a beautiful holiday card. Heather worked with calligrapher Betsy Dunlap to create her wedding invitations, then letterpress printed them herself at a local art studio. For her first holiday card as a newlywed, Heather once again incorporated Betsy’s beautiful calligraphy along with one of her favorite wedding photos from Katie Stoops. Both suites were accented with toile envelope liners and vintage stamps inspired by their historic wedding venue.

From Heather: Our wedding took place at Tuckahoe Plantation in Richmond, Virginia, where my husband – and also Thomas Jefferson – grew up.  With the help of Karson Butler Events, we took wedding inspiration from Tuckahoe itself and, in particular, the blue toile fabric decorating my favorite bedroom in the main house – the toile became the envelope liners and table linens at the wedding.  I learned to letterpress print so that I could create my own invitations using Betsy Dunlap’s lovely calligraphy, which is reminiscent of Thomas Jefferson’s handwriting!

Our wedding was so lovely, I wanted to recreate the feeling (and reuse my new printing skills) in our holiday cards.  So we used the same beautiful “Jeffersonian” script, but this time with red toile liners and a photograph of our wedding from our photographer Katie Stoops.  I had collected vintage stamps from ebay for our wedding and had plenty of Christmas ones left over, which was perfect for our holiday mailing.

From Amber and Emily of Karson Butler Events: When Heather learned how to letterpress print for her June 2011 wedding, we were in awe!  Heather worked with calligrapher Betsy Dunlap to create her custom invitation suite.  Heather then printed her invitations at local art studio Pyramid Atlantic in Silver Spring. Finished with hand-selected vintage stamps and blue toile envelope liners, Heather and Addison’s guests were invited to a gorgeous Southern wedding held at the groom’s childhood home.  To date, it has been one of our favorite weddings to help design.

Tere + César’s 1920s Inspired Letterpress Wedding Invitations

When it came time to design her own wedding invitations, Monterrey, Mexico-based designer Tere Hinojosa was inspired by her love of all things romantic and 1920s-era Paris.  The resulting wedding invitation suite uses classic fonts and vintage-inspired ornaments in a sophisticated gray and blue color palette.  I’m particularly fond of the unique invitation layout, which – given Tere’s old-fashioned inspiration – was appropriately sealed with gold wax.

From Tere: I’m an artsy and hopeless romantic in love with Alice in Wonderland, whimsy, and Paris in the 1920s. With this mixed inspiration in mind, I spent a lot of time making sure I had found the perfect mix of vintage, rustic, and whimsical design for my wedding invitations.

The design theme revolved around 1920s inspired graphics and the elegant palette of soft blue and dark gray with accents of silver and gold. The invitation suite was letterpress printed on off-white cotton textured paper and sealed with a wax monogram.
