Carolyn + Alan’s Rustic Woodgrain Wedding Invitations

Carolyn (aka Miss Apple Cider) let me know about her fabulous DIY wedding invitations a few weeks ago — which she’s also posted on Weddingbee.  Carolyn printed her invitations on the Gmund woodgrain embossed paper that we had been talking about a few months ago, so I asked to see these lovelies up close and in person.  Carolyn was kind enough to send me an extra copy to photograph in all of its woodgrain paper glory:

So here’s what Carolyn had to say:

My fiance and I are having an October wedding in the mountains of North Carolina.  We are going with a “love birds” theme but desperately wanted to avoid being “cheesy”.  We wanted our love birds and invitations to have a rustic feel.

Once we found the wood grain paper we knew that it was the right fit.  We designed the invitations and printed a test version on our very cheap home printer.  It worked and we fell in love.  We decide to print the invitation, rsvp card, info card and tags all on the wood grain.

We decided to go with vellum outer envelopes and embossed our tree on the back of the envelope:

For the inner envelopes containing our invitation and enclosures, we chose a dark brown pocketfold enclosure and tied it with a thin, cream twine, then added both the tag and a circle tag (in the red/maroon rsvp envelope color):
We matched our RSVP card and map with our “love birds”:
I love all the thought and detail that Carolyn incorporated into her invitations – right down to the little love birds in the map above!
I was a little enthusiastic while photographing Carolyn’s invitations, so I’ve uploaded the rest of the photos to my flickr page if you’re interested in seeing more.  For more info on how Carolyn DIY’d both her wedding invitations and fab rehearsal dinner invitations, check out her blog, Wedding Sparks, right here.  Thanks so much Carolyn!

  1. so beautiful. wonder if the paper works going through a home printer. have to try some experiments.

  2. Thanks so much for the feature on my invites!!! And for commenter “Tammy”, the invitations were printed on my home cheap printer and worked really well! They came out so much better than I expected on the printer.

  3. we absolutely love the invite with the red and brown- Such a natural presentation- Oh and the tree & birds motifs are great! I actually designed my own wedding invites with a VERY similar look- including a tree motif & the lovebirds motif. Also a pocketfold 🙂

  4. It all goes together so nicely! Very interesting invitation decor! So different and beautiful! Very talented designer!

  5. LOVELY! I’m printing my own invites too! where did you get the horizontal pocketfolds? all i’ve found are vertical.
