Intricate Cut Paper Designs from Sara Burgess

I’m a huge fan of cut paper artwork and designs, and these intricate pieces from artist Sara Burgess are no exception.  Sara has worked in cut paper, design, and illustration for many years, but recently started working with a laser to bring her work to a wider audience while maintaining the integrity of the original hand cut pieces.  Simply stunning.

Sara has shared some of her original pieces below – every single one of these was hand cut with an x-acto blade!

For her newer laser cut pieces, Sara has also opened a shop called Papersaw where you can check out these lovely cards:

Margie + Morgen’s Queen Mary-Inspired Save the Dates

Kathryn from Blackbird Letterpress sent over a fun set of save the dates that she recently created for an upcoming wedding.  With a double-sided postcard format, these playful save the dates were actually inspired by the wedding venue – the historic Queen Mary ship-turned-hotel in Long Beach, California.  So fun!

From Kathryn: This save the date card is for a destination wedding, on the Queen Mary!  I worked closely with the bride and it has been such a treat to have our thoughts so in sync.  The postcard was printed on Legion Bamboo paper, in ocean blue ink with coral and warm gray accents for the lips & mustache.

So cute!  I can’t wait to see the corresponding wedding invitations – thanks Kathryn!

Heather’s Modern Graduation Announcements

In addition to flowers and warm weather, spring also means that it’s graduation time!  Heather is preparing to graduate from Portland State University and designed an announcement to help commemorate the big day.  Heather worked with Chelsea from Field Trip Studio for letterpress printing in two colors – resulting in a fun and spring-fresh announcement inspired by Heather’s love of print design.

From Heather: The inspiration for the design of my announcements were my love of print design, as well as the chance to nerd-out over my favorite design things.  I wanted to do some hand-drawn type, but didn’t want to draw out the entire piece and so settled on just my name, to really make it pop!

A few super nerdy details: all sides have rules on them—the left and right sides have inches, while the top and bottom are in picas.  Also included are my favorite tools from the Adobe Design Suite, a command + n to symbolize the new chapter I’m starting, and some great little circles (including the ellipse tool cursor in the center) on the corners.  Nerd alert!

I have a deep love for calligraphy, and the romantic calligraphy from Mara of Neither Snow always seems to take my breath away.  These wedding invitations featuring Mara’s beautiful script and a sweet asterisk illustration are no exception.  And the combination of calligraphy and letterpress printing?  Be still my heart…
