1960s-Inspired Save the Dates for a 70th Birthday Party

Leslie from Lilly and Louise sent over these super-fun save the dates for a 70th birthday party – all inspired by the 1960s!  Leslie kept things simple with Mad Men-inspired icons in a black and red color palette, letterpress printed on bright white cotton paper.  I love the fold-out design and modern font selections!

From Leslie: For this 1960s-themed 70th Birthday Party Save the Date we created a simple, clean, Madmen-esque look, using bold red and black against a bright white.  To enhance the experience, we letterpress printed these elements into a thick cotton paper.

Guests literally unfold each element as they open the card.  The graphic illustrations of a black tie, red lips, red glasses and a birthday candle give a hint of the celebration to come at this B-A-S-H, without giving away too much.

Thanks Leslie!

Happy Friday everyone!  Are you ready to start your weekend?  I am!  This was a fun week (I even went to a cookie swap!), but I’m looking forward to some much-needed rest before the holidays.  But in the meantime…

Anastasia’s Paint Drip Birthday Party Invitations

You might remember Anastasia’s bright and colorful Kate Spade-inspired birthday party invitations from last year, and today Anastasia is back to share the invitations for this year’s birthday party!  I love the simple inspiration behind these invitations: Anastasia simply dipped into her personal paint supply and let a few drips run down a trimmed sheet of paper!  Anastasia printed all the relevant details on a yellow belly band, using kraft paper tape to secure the two pieces.

From Anastasia: I found some super thick paper that I had lying around and picked out four colors of paint (sunny yellow, ocean blue, pink, and metallic gold) from my craft box.  I squeezed the paint onto the trimmed thick paper, letting the excess roll down the invitation.  All the party info was printed on yellow paper and trimmed just so I could wrap it around the invitation.

I secured the yellow strip with super sticky kraft tape on the back.  I also added puff tape underneath the front portion of the strip to give it a bit of lift.

So fun!  Thanks Anastasia – and happy birthday!

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone!  This weekend I’m looking forward to breaking out the holiday decorations and putting up our Christmas tree, and to helping my Mom celebrate her birthday on Sunday.  Plus, my Dad and step-mom are in Mexico this weekend to attend a wedding, and my 70 year-old Dad got to use his passport for the very first time!  Yay Dad!  We’ve also been dying to see the new Muppets movie.  Have any of you seen it?  But in the meantime…

On a personal note, if you follow me on twitter or instagram, you may have seen that we recently welcomed a foster cat, Simon, into our home.  We’ve been working with an organization called Homeward Trails over the last couple of weeks (through our friend Leah, the talented photographer who took the photos below) to rescue a few homeless cats in our neighborhood.  We think Simon was abandoned by his previous owners; he’s incredibly social and was living with a colony of cats in an alley.  When we first met Simon he practically jumped into our arms, and now that he’s indoors he loves nothing more than to curl up in someone’s lap and rub his head on their chin.  He’s incredibly well-behaved, affectionate, and playful.  We’re hoping to find a home for him soon to make room for a couple of other needy cats before it gets really cold.  So if any readers in the Mid-Atlantic area are looking to adopt a cat – please consider Simon!

There are an estimated 50,000 stray and feral cats here in Washington, DC.  Some of the stray alley cats are some of the sweetest cats you’ll ever meet and it breaks my heart to think about these cats trying to brave the winter outdoors.  If you’re not looking to adopt, but have a spare room or even a basement, please consider fostering rescue animals.  You can also donate to Homeward Trails here to help cover medical costs for rescued cats and dogs.

We’ve got an awesome cocktail recipe coming up a bit later this afternoon, but otherwise that’s it for me this week!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday! xoxo

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful week!  I actually managed to come down with a bit of a cold this week, so I’m planning to lie low this weekend.  Not very exciting, I know, but definitely necessary every now and then.  But in the meantime…
