Sarah + Brian’s Western Watercolor Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! I’m on my way up to NYC for the Winter NYNOW market (you can follow the show along with me via Instagram!), but I’m excited to start the week with a pair of really gorgeous wedding invitations! First up, a fun invitation suite from AllieRuth Design that mixes a western vibe with romantic details like calligraphy and floral patterns. Such a wonderful combination!

From Allie: We had SO much creating this suite. Sarah and Brian really allowed me to run with their ideas and put something together that stands out among the AllieRuth portfolio. We worked with Mama’s Sauce, our favorite rock star printers, to take on the unique task of letterpress printing a blind impression woodgrain texture and then screen printing in metallic ink.

The reception took place on a beautiful ranch, inside of a horse barn. The couple wanted to incorporate that western vibe in a subtle way, so we mixed a funky retro font with my calligraphy, and brought in soft details with the lace band, watercolors, and floral envelope liner.

Pretty Paper in the Office: Notebooks

A great gift no matter the time of year has to be the versatile notebook. Personally, I’ve turned notebooks into sketchbooks, planners, and journals when the mood strikes. They’re perfect for those of us who like to go with the flow, and don’t require a different item for each aspect of our workday. The best part is the variety of styles that are available; you’re bound to find one that suits the way you work! – Julie

Krista + Josh’s Whimsical Woodland Wedding Invitations

High school sweethearts Krista and Josh love nature, so it made total sense for Krista to draw her inspiration from the great outdoors while designing the invitations for her wedding last summer. Krista incorporated a tree, clouds, and a whimsical script font into the design, which was enclosed in a woodgrain pocket folder. Ironically, Krista and Josh had to cancel their southern New Jersey reception at the last minute due to the derecho that pummeled the East Coast last summer – you’ll definitely want to click the link below for the incredible story!

From Krista: My husband Josh and I love the great outdoors. We camp. We hike. We got engaged on a mountain. We basically grew up in the woods, in the same small square-mile town in New Jersey: Tree City USA aka Wenonah. So naturally, the first thing that came to mind was: a tree. Little did we know that our reception would be cancelled due to a power outage from downed trees of a high wind derecho storm the night before, but that’s a whole other story.

I started with the tree and then incorporated the butterflies, hearts, clouds, and little frog prince… and a lot of color. Next came the very important part of finding a hand-script font to match, which in the end, really made our little fairytale-land come to life. Once the actual invitation design was complete, I was able to carry the look and feel to the rest of the suite: the directions, accommodations, reception and reply cards, and envelopes.

I knew from the start that I would use a natural white linen card stock, since it’s my favorite paper and has that rustic vibe. But then, I had my O-M-G moment when I found the most perfect pocket fold card stock – textured woodgrain! The final touch was tying it off with a natural green raffia ribbon and a pink paper butterfly.

Claire + John’s Woodsy Lodge Wedding Invitations

We’re getting ready to take our first big family vacation with Sophie, and it involves mountains and a lake! I’m looking forward to a change in scenery from DC, and these screen printed invitations from Sarah Jane Winter for a wedding in Lake Tahoe are making me even more excited for our trip. Sarah incorporated woodland illustrations and a woodgrain texture paper to highlight the wedding’s natural setting. Pretty!

From Sarah Jane: Claire and Jonathan are tying the knot at a lakefront lodge in Lake Tahoe, California. Being nature lovers, they are incorporating an organic aesthetic throughout all elements of their wedding. Their invitation uses evergreen hues and woodgrain textures to highlight the gorgeous pines native to the area around their wedding venue.

The illustration in the invitation depicts the view of the lake and mountain range from the lodge where the wedding will take place. Whimsical fonts and screen printing set the tone for a carefree and cheerful wedding in the woods.

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone! I know it’s still snowing in some parts of the country (sorry folks), but here in DC spring is in full effect – the cherry blossoms are finally blooming and the sun is shining! We still have so much work to do to get the inside of our house in order, but the gorgeous weather makes me want to get outside and start working on our small garden. I hope you all have fun plans and wish you gorgeous weather this weekend! But in the meantime…
