Best of 2011: Christine + Ian’s Woodland Wedding Invitations

I’ll admit, it was realllly hard to come up with a list of favorite wedding invitations to highlight this year – there were so many amazing invitations!  But, as I was going through the posts from the last year, one clear frontrunner emerged – Christine and Ian’s amazing woodland wedding invitations.  After deciding on a wedding venue in the woods near Ian’s childhood home, Christine and Ian put an incredible amount of thought and creativity into their wedding invitations – from the amazing lasercut pop up details to the kraft paper enclosures (including a cool field guide with sketches of local wildlife).  Breathtaking!

Scout’s Honor Co.

A couple of recent projects from Scout’s Honor Co.  caught my eye, and I just couldn’t resist sharing them before we all head off for the weekend!  First up, these awesome woodland save the date postcards for a wedding in Vermont.  I love the mix of retro-looking hand lettering and rustic lodge illustrations.

I also adore these custom rubber stamps for a rowhouse in Ohio – the rubber stamp can be used for both the moving announcement and a return address stamp!  So clever!  My husband and I (and most of our friends) live in rowhouses here in DC and this would have been perfect when we moved into our apartment two years ago.

Inspired By: Kraft Paper

Kraft paper is one of my favorite materials any time of year, but even more so during the holiday season.  I love the combination of kraft paper (or even chipboard) and white lettering for party invitations and place cards.  You can also use kraft paper lunch bags as easy menus for holiday dinners or attach little flags to toothpicks or straws to help guests keep track of their drinks for a New Year’s Eve party.  Since Thanksgiving is next week (!!), I thought I’d round up a few of my favorite kraft paper details…

No. 1 Kraft paper + cobalt paper flowers Hey Look via The Sweetest Occasion; No. 2 Invitations Rebecca Hansen via Once Wed; No. 3 Kraft paper drink flags Michael and Anna Costa via Style Me Pretty; No. 4 Neither Snow via Design Sponge; No. 5 Kraft paper favor bags Tec Petaja via Once Wed; No. 6 Menu Karen Mordechai for Sunday Suppers; No. 7 Place card via Martha Stewart Weddings; No. 8 Table setting via Country Living

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone!  My husband just reminded me that we’re heading into a long weekend (he keeps track of these things more closely than I do, apparently), so that’s nice!  I was already looking forward to a laid back weekend, but am grateful for the extra day to catch up on errands and hopefully relax.  But in the meantime…

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.  And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.  If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking.  Don’t settle.  As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.  And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on.  So keep looking until you find it.  Don’t settle.”

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.  Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.  Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.  And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.  They somehow already know what you truly want to become.  Everything else is secondary.”

Leslie + Ryan’s Modern Woodland Big Sur Wedding Invitations

Leslie and Ryan’s woodland-inspired wedding invitations come to us from designer Yvonne Pingue and photographer Scott MacDonald.  The modern invitation features a double-sided design inspired by the natural environment of wedding venue on the California coast and the couple’s love of music.  I love the way Yvonne incorporated pattern and bright color into the invitation to retain a modern design sensibility.

From Yvonne: For Ryan and Leslie’s wedding invitation, I wanted to illustrate their love for both Big Sur and music, while keeping it clean and modern.  Their wedding was taking place at the Henry Miller Memorial Library near the coast, so I knew I wanted to incorporate the ocean.  They are also die-hard music fans and travel all over the country for music festivals.  I researched music posters for inspiration and tried to integrate that style with the natural environment of Big Sur.

Thanks Scott and Yvonne!
